No, I don't bow to the Precious Blood

Hey, you put forth a silly analogy, you get a silly answer…
I expected no more than that. Sometimes, I just needed to make some silly analogy to loosen up. Why would this thread go beyond 3 or 4 pages? . 😃 That’s my whole point.

Besides, that’s why I’m happy that in my parish we all receive communion kneeling at the altar rail and by intinction and only the priest and deacons distribute Holy Communion. We don’t have to put up with all of the shenenigans that go on in many parishes.
Like one time I saw at another parish, a young teen wearing a polo shirt and faded jeans, go up to the altar, starts pouring the consecrated wine that was in pitcher into glass chalices, spills it all over the altar, then HE gives communion to the priest… but hey… let’s not go there…

Oh, and BTW the priest and deacons DO NOT geneflect everytime they pass infront of the tabernacle since it’s in the middle and not to one side…

At our parish when the priest is putting the hosts back into the Tabernacle, he genuflects twice - once before putting the hosts in, and once after shutting the door. He also does the same when taking them out. It seems like a completely natural thing to do.
If your priest genuflects while holding a ciborium full of consecrated hosts then he’s doing something very wrong.

We genuflect to God. Not altars and not empty tabernacles. We genuflect on both knees (kneel) if He is on exposition. To kneel to an empty tabernacle is wrong. Even if the Blessed Sacrament is reposed inside, it would still be gravely wrong to genuflect while holding a full ciborium – God does not genuflect to God.

So does our pries, but he sits the Ciborium down in front of the tabernacle, genuflects, puts them it in and genuflects again. He does not genuflect while holding the Ciborium.

Wow, you’ve just totally missed the point of WHY we make the gesture, haven’t you? In the words of the document itself - it’s a sign of reverence. Now perhaps you’d care to explain to me WHY Our Lord in the Precious Blood is any less deserving of the same sign of reverence simply because we don’t choose to receive Him, or why we would only be obliged to revere Him when we DO receive Him. 🤷
Because I just consumed His Body Blood Soul and Divinity. That is my focus.

Hi,

Since you were told, by a legitimate minister of the Parish, and this is not something “wrong”, what about following your parish instructions?

(I do agree that the Precious Blood is to be reverenced. If you don’t invite someone into your home, wouldn’t you at least acknowledge their presence on your street?)

All I want is a Church document. I have long stopped listening to unsubstantiated opinions on things like this.

Yes, same here. I am trying to imagine some other scenario where someone would be carrying a ciborium full of hosts, whether consecrated or otherwise, and I can’t think of any.

Even on Holy Thursday, they are being processed from one tabernacle to another, and of course the whole congregation is on its knees during that time - and I am sure that the priest genuflects when he puts the hosts into the tabernacle of repose. 🙂

I cannot imagine any situation where a lay person would be required to carry a ciborium full of hosts, other than when distributing at Mass, in the role of EMHC.

It’s not God who is genuflecting. It’s the priest.

Now I do that too, but only because we have more than one ciborium (and luna/pyx) containing the Blessed Sacrament. If the tabernacle was empty it would make no sense to genuflect…

I sure wish someone could produce an official Church document that directs Catholic to reverence the Precious Blood even when we choose not to consume it at Mass. I would gladly follow it, but I just don’t like to follow folklore for the sake of folklore.

I think the idea is that he is bowing to the Blessed Sacrament before it puts it in, as bowing to the the empty tabernacle makes no since. Although come to think about it, I have no clue if its actually empty or not. Normally we’re in the back trying to keep the kids still and quiet 😉

Even if I’m not receiving the blood (usually due to having a cold or something…) I will bow. I think I’d have a hard time walking past Jesus without doing so. That’s just me, though. 🤷
I agree with you.

Mary Mother of God still prayed and reverenced humbled herself and exclaimed, " My soul doth magnify the Lord…"

Imagen if she had assumed the attitude of “no, I have the fullness of grace within me”…

Lets keep it simple…

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

As far as I know, there is no Church document on this, but we are called to obey those in authority, unless they instruct against faith & morals. If this person is in a position of authority, you are obligated to do as instructed.

I was watching this AM…no one who is not receiving the Precious Blood bows, but many do keep their head lowered after consuming the host, until they pass the Precious Blood station. Perhaps this could be a compromise which you could live with.

In any event, the liturgical co ordinator does deserve respect from you, and if you won’t follow instructions, just do what you choose without making a big deal about it.

No she does not. I am not called to obey her.

I sure wish I had not wasted time reading this.

You said before maybe CAF was not the place to ask this question so why continue?

Call the “Ask an Apologist” line

Get the GIRM and read it if you do not find it do not do it.

I see nothing wrong with bowing or genuflecting to the Precious Blood. Yes you have Jesus in you that does not mean He is not present I everyone else. It should humble you greatly that you have the honor to recieve Our Lord why should it bother you to show a sign of reverence? Or why should it bother you that others do? You seem to be looking for legalisms and looking past the point.

cough OT warning!

Could almost start a thread with unhelpful CAF Answers.

You should obey x! (Where x is either totally wrong or has no real authority.)

Why did you even type that? 🤷
