It’s obvious you have your mind made up because you didn’t address a single point I brought up. My whole point was that some people aren’t able to read, and even if they can, find it profitable to have a visual image so they can think about Christ’s sacrifice where ever they go.

If you don’t like images, don’t use them. But don’t get huffy when others don’t accept your unscriptural and illogical personal conclusions. You are, of course, welcome to hold them yourself.
You never heard of people who can’t read, listening to the Word of God.

The bottom line is that the Word of God is perfect and gives a perfect description of the Lord Jesus’ perfect sacrifice. So why bother with man made images?

Hopefully you are here to learn and inquire as to Catholic belief and practice. I say “hopefully” because you seem to be here to attack the Church based on some problem that you have with the use of the Crucifix. The Catholic veneration of the Crucifix has been explained to you at some length, yet you continue to scoff. I could be charitable and put your attacks down to ignorance, but it serves nothing to simply show up on a Catholic forum and attack a dearly held Catholic practice. Do you hope to change our minds? Or just give yourself a cheap “feel-good”? You style yourself as a “follower of Jesus Christ”, what do you think that we Catholics are?
Calm down, it’s ok to be asked to support your views/practices from the Sacred Scriptures. Unless of course you are afraid you can’t do this?

Why not?

What we have here is an exact. opposite philosophy of interpretation. You believe that if it isn’t in the Bible, it shouldn’t be done. Catholics (and many other Christians) believe that lots of other things can indeed be done as long as they don’t specifically contradict the Bible. By your reasoning, there would be no purpose in making the movie “The Passion of the Christ”, and no purpose in creating a pictorial children’s Bible.

For that matter, if the crucifix has no purpose, why even have crosses? Why wear a necklace of a cross or have one in your church, if not for a reminder?

Prove yours are correct…guess what you can’t!

Its sad you think the only way to experience God is through the Bible. Do you never spend time in prayer? Prayer is central to Catholic faith, where the Bible and trying to be your own pope is central to non-Catholics.

I’ll stick with God and worshiping Him in reverence, instead of being a part of a faith that can never feel good about itself without attacking others out of ignorance.

Why are you picking arguments with fellow Christians? You really think Jesus would condone such actions?

Where’s the Bible based evidence that the 1st Century Church made man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross?
Don’t need a Bible for evidence of a historical fact. There is plenty of evidence from as early as the 2nd and 3rd century that the early believers decorated their places with it.

Do your homework.🤷

Crosses were torture devices. Churches who have empty crosses in their churches are obviously condoning such murder and torture.😦 That is sad to me.

Nice STORY, were’s the factual Bible based evidence for the making of man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross. Human reasoning won’t do nor will subjective testimonies. Gods Word perfectly describes the Lord Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Mediate on the perfect Word of God and you will see a true picture of the Lord Jesus’ perfect sacrifice.

Im still waiting for Bible based evidence.
God instructed Moses to mount a bronze serpent on a pole.
This is typography for Christ crucified. Please meditate and pray on this dear friend.

There is a perfect description of the Lord Jesus’ perfect sacrifice in the Sacred Scriptures.

Nice try at trying to divert the discussion to crosses, seems like you have given up on trying to give Bible based evidence for making an image of the Lord Jesus on the cross.

The issue is the Lord Jesus and His perfect suffering, not a wooden cross. Many people died on crosses but only ONE blessed Saviour died for sinners. No man can recreate what He did and no man needs to do this because God has given His perfect inspired account of what happened to His Son on the cross.

So, what is your point? Do you simply seek an argument? It is quite obvious that your purpose is not to learn, but to give us your particularly protestant point of view, which we have heard many times before ad nauseum. You object to the Catholic veneration of the Crucifix simply because it is Catholic practice, not because your argument has any relevance. I suggest that you peddle your viewpoints elsewhere.

I’m sorry…did you not get the anti-Catholic memo that we Catholics base our beliefs on more than just the Bible? 🤷

Oh yeah, and ours has 7 books more than yours does because the early church did too. Hate it for ya.

Not at all. I have pointed out a couple of references, but more specifically, I’ve tried to show you that from a Catholic point of view, we don’t NEED Biblical evidence at all, as long as it doesn’t contradict scripture. There’s more to Christianity than just the Bible.

BTW… you never did answer my questions from earlier… which version of the Bible was in use for the first 400 years of Christianity, and who decided why certain books are inspired, and others aren’t? For example, MANY early Christians rejected 2 Peter and Revelations, and for a long time, many groups considered the Didache, the Epistle of Barnabus, the Letters of Clement, and others to be inspired.

No-one can give biblical evidence for making of man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross. I have consistently stated that God has given us His perfect inspired account of the Lord Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross. Again i say there’s no need to look at man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross, look instead at the perfect God inspired account in the Sacred Scriptures.

The last couple of posts have showed the true colors of this forum, personal attacks instead of biblical discussion.

No need for crucifix’s??? Well then speak for yourself!! You don’t like them fine! But you aren’t going to convince any of us that there isn’t any need for them.

some folks are just embarrassing…:o I think I have to give this place a rest for a while. I don’t know how you all put up with these sorts day after day. Makes me want to scream.

Thanks for making at least a feeble attempt to address what I actually said. But you still haven’t responded to:

I disagree. You come in here and make remarks that can only be construed as confrontational and then want to whine and :crying: when I and other Catholics point out the errors of your beliefs and thinking.

You have no scripture to support your own position and I showed you right off the bat that there is indeed a scriptural principle behind the use of a crucifix.

If you are a post reformation non-Catholic Christian then the use of crucifixes by believers far predates the vast majority of what you hold as gospel doctrines. See here.

Make a good case or admit that it’s nothing more than your misinformed opinion.

What part of “historical evidence” do you not understand? There is no historical evidence that the making of representations of the crucifixion existed before the Second Century AD. The early Church was persecuted and clandestine and did not wish to draw attention to itself. Nothing in Scripture describes a Crucifix or veneration of a Crucifix, There… is that the answer that you are seeking? Others have explained to you that everything that we do as Christians is not necessarily found in the Bible. That, in in itself, does not prohibit anything that is not specifically prohibited.
You have posed your argument as saying that"If the use of Crucifixes are not found in Scripture, then it must be wrong." Many things that we do are NOT found specifically in Scripture, yet they are certainly not wrong. We Catholics have the additional benefit of following Sacred Tradition, as well as Sacred Scripture, something that protestants sadly lack.

[SIGN]Now hear this. Now hear this.[/SIGN]

The Bible is not a complete history book and the evidence that you want is historical rather than Biblical.

There are no jet planes or automobiles in the Bible. There are no televisions or space shuttles in the Bible. There is no Greek and Trojan war in the Bible…so that didn’t happen? There are no communists or the United States in the Word of God, so I guess there is no reason to have any of those either.

Irrational…:hypno: :whacky:
