Rosalie, “Morning Has Broken” is a legitimate hymn. Cat Stevens didn’t compose all the songs he sang. This hymn was written by Eleanor Farjohn in 1931. Cat gave it a few little ‘riffs’ in his arrangement (which I enjoy playing as a pianist but sure wouldn’t do in church!) but it isn’t ‘his’ composition. Don’t hesitate.I was in choir for 4-1/2 years. I have recently resigned for a number of reasons. I’ve also changed my parish for a number of reasons.
Last week, the cantor sang, as a recessional hymn, the tune that sounds like Cat Stevens’ “Morning has broken”. I saw a different composer’s name, the words were different; but all I could hear was Cat Stevens. I hesitated to sing the whole thing through and smiled at the cantor. Help, I can still hear Cat Stevens!![]()
