And yet folks like Nancy Pelosi become Remarkably wealthy By being in Congress.
And Republican folks as of a 2018 report of Top 15:
1 Greg Gianforte 137 Million
2 Michael McCall 113 Million
4 Vern Buchanan 74 Million
7 Trey Hollingsworth 50 Million
8 Chris Collins 43 Million
9 Paul Mitchell 37 Million
13 Roger Williams 28 Million
15 Francis Rooney 23 Million

Pelosi did not even make the cut in that report.

Maybe google the source of Pelosi’s Wealth.
Prooving my point. I’m far more concerned about those who get rich in government than I am those who were rich before

Doesn’t matter whether it’s D or R after their names, there’s a huge trough there and both sides are feeding from it.

Plus a common form of corruption is the direction of favorable contracts, etc., to close relatives. For one example of many on both sides, check out how Dianne Feinstein’s husband Richard Blum got really rich. See Blum’s Wikipedia page under “Controversy” for that.

Insider trading is against the law. But Congress does it because they are exempt. When they get caught selling, it’s an ethics charge, not an actual criminal charge.

Many forms of discrimination and harassment are against the law. But Congress and its staffers are exempt from all that.

It will never get anywhere, but there really ought to be an amendment to the Constitution that no legislators can pass a law intended for all and be exempt from it. Further, no immediate relative of a legislator can be involved in the receipt of a contract. Something like that. … Never happen.

Thank goodness Trump acted.
Before or after he called it a “new hoax”?
Except that he didn’t. Even the so-called fact checkers say he didn’t.
Trump referred to the alleged “politicizing” of the coronavirus by Democrats as “their new hoax.” He did not refer to the coronavirus itself as a hoax. Throughout the speech, Trump reiterates his administration is taking the threat of the coronavirus seriously.
The accusation that he said the virus was a hoax is the actual hoax.

There is a difference between “is blamed for” and “is responsible for.”

He takes the credit and the blame for things that occur during his administration true, but that is more a public perception thing and PR event than anything else.

No, I am saying that the President is responsible for what happens when faced with a national emergency.
Each state’s government and governor has primary responsibility. This presided what the experts to him to do. He was responsive to their advice. He has as acted well in this pandemic.
If his people blew it, that’s still on the President. And 100000+ dead means that the President has to accept responsibility since countries like South Korea do not have nearly the losses that the US does.
They didn’t blow anything. The US response has been on par with the EU. Exclude New York where serious mistakes were made, and our response is on par with Germany.
Now, if you personally have evidence that you made recommendations that could have done better, I’d be happy to hear them. Otherwise, Monday morning quarterbacking during a pandemic is rather pathetic, in my view.

A threat to the United States is handled by the federal government as they have the resources to handle the larger threats, such as a virus that kills 100,000+ Americans.
And he has handled it effectively. It is a pandemic virus that kills people, particularly the elderly and those with certain conditions. To expect any president to prevent that is simply blind partisanship. Unless you thought he should have acted as an authoritarian.
He was criticized for acting in January- called a racist and a xenophobe.
Then he was criticized for stating he would tell the governors when they could open.
No State was short of respirators. Or masks.
There are right now more tests than people requesting them.
Many countries in Europe blew it too.
Waiting for your expert opinion that you gave back in January that the other American experts ignored.
Had Trump ignored Fauci and Birx in favor of the South Korean Approach, impeachment hearings would be going on right now.

If there weren’t examples of countries that have handled the crisis much better, I would agree with you. But there is South Korea. There is Germany (70% less deaths per capita). Etc.
Since the US is so large, you have to dig deeper
Almost half US deaths (50k) come from NY, NJ, and Mass, with each at 4-5 times the US ave rate of 333 deaths per million. Their rates are 1,000-1,500 deaths/million

These three states are dragging down the whole US because of how their governors responded.

I thought Trump himself stated that if the death count could end up less than 100000, then he would have done a good job. Guess not, he blew that before Jun 1.

Hate to tell you this but without New York the US wouldn’t exist as a financial power. I would not brush them off so easily.

No, I really don’t have to dig deeper. NY, NJ and Massachusetts are all a part of the US. The federal government of the United States blew it and the excuse making to cover it up is unbelievable.
. . . .

The govs in NY, NJ, and MASS were in charge of their state responses, not the federal govt.

They performed remarkably different than other states because their response (what was under their control) was more inept.

Assuming that the number is even correct. I could be pressed to death by a steamroller tomorrow and I’d be added to the coronavirus death toll.

On a lighter note, from Lincoln Nebraska protests

I don’t think New York is being brushed off. The point is being made that, when you break down the statistics for the states, three states really stand out: NY, NJ, and Mass.
I’ve been watching this on the old johns hopkins dashboard for some time.

On a global scale, it is also interesting to look at the # cases diagnosed/deaths.
The number crunching is just beginning-new data is constantly coming in.

The EU is not the #1 superpower.
True, but it is interesting looking at Eu Stats vs U.S. stats as I think about socialized healthcare. Our statistics look pretty good in comparison with many EU countries. Granted, there are lots of variables to consider and data continues to aggregate, but the U.S. system seems to be pretty competitive.

It is remarkable and disturbing how posters are intent on holding bad Orange Man to a standard unobtainable. This is a virus we knew little of before January. The primary re-election issue Trump had was the economy. He willingly allowed it to be destroyed in order to fight the virus.
As I’ve stated before, hadTrump personally come up with a cure for the virus on his laptop, the left would accuse him of racism because it didn’t also cure sickle cell

It is amazing how, in the media, progressive Democrat mayors and governors are not held responsible for the actions of their administrations. Cuomo and Murphy are never blamed for their horrendous response to the virus, and De Blasio isn’t held accountable to the abuses of his police employees.

The extreme dislike of many posters here of our president is irrational and the insuts hurled at him daily are irrational.

The government did not fail in the response.
