Considering that South Korea had their first Coronavirus case on the same day we did, and had about 250 deaths. Yes there was a failed response in the US.

I’ve posted this page from the Kaiser Family Foundation elsewhere but it goes really good here when debating the impact of Covid-19 on the individual states and their respective case and death counts. Including those from long term care facilities.

It’s worth your time to scroll down the page and check out the numbers from the long term care facilities. It’s the best summary I’ve seen anywhere of this demographic. Key number: for the reporting states, 45% of the death toll comes from long term care facilities. The residents of which make up about 1.7% of our nation’s population. That implies 55% of the death toll comes from the other 98.3% of that population. If we assume about 330m total population, then at 108k deaths so far, 55% of that is about 59k deaths for everyone outside of a long term care facility in a population of 324m. Basically a very bad flu year and that is it.

You can argue what the numbers mean, but you will have to start with the real numbers that we have.

Most people know this has been mostly baloney outside of the long term care facilities, that we went way overboard on quarantining the healthy for nothing more than a bad flu year, but government rarely admits a mistake. How convenient the riots came along just when the government and the media were about to lose control of the narrative.

The next thing is to see about the spikes that are supposed to happen from everyone getting out the door for Memorial Day weekend. And then more spikes from the protests. If there aren’t much, then the baloney is out in the open and there is no hiding it anymore.

Japan had their first case months before us, and they’ve lost about 600 people so far.

Democrat mayors and governors are not held responsible for the actions of their administrations.
I don’t think its a case of dem. v rep. What we are seeing around world, through this pandemic is that, the safest jobs on the planet are politicians (local, state & federal), no politician has lost their job for austerity or performing poorly, a total contrast to the private, hard working citizens.

Hey, @Cathoholic , please list the Republican-led cities and the status of protests in those cities.
Your “list” request is answered right in the article . . .
What do all those American cities have in common?
  1. They’re ALL run by Democrats, many for generations.
  2. They’ve all been looted and burned by left-wing Antifa terrorists and other anarchist groups over the past few nights.
Emphasis mine.

I think, broadly, you are correct, but the bias of the media is so strongly pro Democrat.

The media, too. They’ve accused middle class Americans who want to go back to work as not caring about others, all while they make their substantial salaries writing their hypocritical articles from home. No lost salary for them.

It’s almost as if he swallowed the red pill

The federal government of the United States blew it and the excuse making to cover it up is unbelievable
So should Trump have just preemptively federalized the public health functions of these states?

oh, wait…that would be unconstitutional. Imagine the cries of "TRUMP WANTS TO BE A DICTATOR!!! that would come from the Trump haters.

oh wait…they already scream that.

Hate to tell you this but without New York the US wouldn’t exist as a financial power. I would not brush them off so easily.
yes it would. While NY is the marketPLACE for much of America’s economic engines, it actually produces very little. If Wall Street disappears the functions simply move to another location.

If I recall correctly the Mercantile in Chicago used to be somewhere else (but cant remember where right now).

This is a virus we knew little of before January.
He might have gotten more milage had he not made some of the uninformed and unsupported statements. Saying “we know very little” would have been better than minimizing it and telling the public that the cases are being managed and would be gone with warmer weather.

sloancaprice . . .
There were shortages of masks and test kits throughout.
There were NO “test kits”.

How can you have a “test kit” for a brand new virus?

You can’t.

You have to develop one.
Foreign tests that were rushed, were responsible for deaths. Especially in Spain.

The “top” in Washington cannot develop biochemical tests themselves anymore than “the top” in states like Andrew Cuomo. (“Get in the lab Andrew, and don’t come out 'till you’ve developed a corona virus test!”)

If next month we come across for the first time, “the new hurdy gurdy virus” how many “test kits” for “the hurdy gurdy virus” do you think exist today?

Hopefully you come to the correct conclusion of “zero” test kits.

And they did it much faster, it would seem.
So WHY is that Trump’s fault that another country’s scientists developed a test faster than scientists in the United States?

Is that Andrew Cuomo’s fault too? Or just “Trump’s” fault?

Remember. China would not allow American scientists into Wuhan to study the initial viral spread.

When he acted he was accused, not surprisingly, of racism and xenophobia. Yet the very politicians who made those slanderous comments are now the ones he didn’t act fast enough. Pure demagoguery.
The very media that has participated in an ongoing attempt to undermine the 2016 election is very much part of this demagoguery.

There is plenty more to be said about the effectiveness (or lack of it) of his responses and his actual and alleged dispositions to other groups. But that doesn’t negate that he confidently made statements that were not informed and false. He said it would be gone by April. The case numbers were still going up in April. He made exaggerated claims about the availability os testing. Test were rationed on. Showing symptoms in many cases was not sufficient to qualify for a test. There were other statements. He downplayed the severity of the virus claiming that the flu is worst. His statement about the USA being the most prepared nation in the world I think can also be shown to be false.

Some honesty might have gone a long way.

so you blame him because he didnt federalize, but claim more woukd have died if he did federalize.

Sounds like you are goung to blame him no matter what.

And you can’t see or recognize that he was trying to bring calm to the public?
If this is the criticism, that he was wrong here, let’s look back at the countless time WHO and the CDC have been wrong during this pandemic. Let’s be vocal about Pelosi in Chinatown back in February.
Let’s hold Andrew Cuomo legally responsible for the many deaths that resulted from his actions regarding nursing homes.
His statement about the USA being the most prepared nation in the world I think can also be shown to be false.
Yes. He did. He had to work very hard to ramp up our preparedness to make up for the failings of the previous president and that of governors.

On the other hand, maybe we should give the benefit of the doubt to our Elected officials who were dealing with an entirely new situation, even Cuomo who made such costly mistakes.

Sounds like you are goung to blame him no matter what.
Winner Winner - Chicken Dinner! Trump will never do anything right, no matter what it is. My goodness, they hate him for holding a bible in front of a church!

Yes, and I believe that is the same church Bill Clinton had a ‘photo-op’ while holding a Bible during the time he was denying his affair with Lewinsky [I could be mistaken as its a long time ago - but I think its a good guess since its close to the White House and the Church of Presidents]

But whatever - its kind of like being told that foreign meddling in our elections is akin to the end of the world and treasonous … that is unless its the DNC, Hillary Campaign and our own federal agencies [FBI,CIA] providing money to a foreign national [Steele] who sold them Russian lies - [and in the case of the FBI ladies and gentlemen - that is your Taxpayer funds at work] 🤬 then not so much -Nothing to see here - move along - old news 🥱

Or that time the Obama Administration tried - again with your tax payer funds - to make sure Netanyahu was not re-elected … so its OKAY for our government to interfere in another country’s election and the American people turn a blind eye - again 🥱

Why did South Korea contain the disease and the US did not?
As I have said before. We are not South Korea.
We are a worldwide travel and connection hub having people from all over the world filter through our country daily.

Would you like to stop all immigration cold turkey?
How would you reply to charges of xenophobia, etc. if you did that?

Would you include ILLEGAL immigration being blocked out too under your order (if you could make one)? Or would that be OK?
