Excuses. South Korea is very closely tied to mainland China commercially, so that excuse doesn’t hold water. The conclusion that you are trying to desperately avoid by long posts full of a lot of reasons that don’t hold water is that Trump has failed.
They have clear borders they were able to close. If you wanted to make a comparison with the US, Hawaii would be a good example. They were able to shut down their border and quarantine visitors, also got great results.

Korea also had the benefit of a more compliant population, that were eager to wear masks in public and do effective social distancing. See below story to illustrate the impact. It’s more about culture than ‘policy’, though they also did very well in policy response.

Yes, and I believe that is the same church Bill Clinton had a ‘photo-op’ while holding a Bible during the time he was denying his affair with Lewinsky [I could be mistaken as its a long time ago - but I think its a good guess since its close to the White House and the Church of Presidents]
The exact same church.

So sloancaprice, despite my alleged excuse-making . . .
Would you like to stop all immigration cold turkey?
How would you reply to charges of xenophobia, etc. if you did that?

Would you include ILLEGAL immigration being blocked out too under your order (if you could make one)? Or would that be OK?

In my opinion, most people, including those on this Catholic website, do not care nearly as much about virus deaths or healing racial and police divides as they do about bringing down the President. It sounds good and make them feel good, but deep down, their disdain for one man smothers anything else. I suspect I am not the only one who believes this. This website should change its name. The last place one should look for Catholic Answers in this board.

the safest jobs on the planet are politicians
The media, too. No lost salary for them.
I can see what you are saying but there is one major difference between the two

MEDIA salaries & levels of employment are determined by the market

POLITICIAN salaries & levels of employment are determined by themselves

And you can’t see or recognize that he was trying to bring calm to the public?
I recognize that underplaying the risk can lead to more harm. He appears to try to minimize severity and risks in the interest of self image.
If this is the criticism, that he was wrong here, let’s look back at the countless time WHO and the CDC have been wrong during this pandemic.
The criticism isn’t on being wrong. Tentative conclusions made on the best available information can be wrong. Ex: does COVID-19 affect children? The answer to that question has evolved as more cases were observed. The criticism is on his tendency to [mis]lead the public with uninformed and unsupported statements.

sloancaprice criticizes President Trump for not stopping immigration to America sooner and/or more completely.

When President Trump did what he did,
he was frequently criticized for stopping too much immigration, called a xenophobe for the immigration stops he DID utilize,
was told it was illegal (by Pelosi),
etc.

Now that we see he was right, he gets criticized for stopping too little in the way of immigration.

So I asked sloancaprice if Trump was so wrong, what do you suggest was right? (Or should we all just forget about what is right and criticize Trump no matter what he does? Is THAT what’s good for the country?)

sloancaprice’s answer?

Pretty much what I thought.

There is going to be no answer forthcoming.

Here was sloancaprice’s reply . . . .
This is a gish gallop technique. I’ve made my point. Answering these questions is irrelevant to my point, so I won’t
I disagree. I think my questions WERE relevant.
Never-the-less, this is pretty much what I expected.
Which is just fine. You don’t need to put forth a “sloancaprice plan” here. I’m good with your silence on what you think was right.

And overplaying the severity can lead to more harm, as well. Compared to his opponents who recommended going to “Chinatown“ and calling him xenophobic when he acted in January and February, I think he struck a moderate chord.

That’s true. The criticism is on being Trump, right or wrong.

Interesting. The “experts” get to draw “tentative conclusions”, but if Trump is wrong in a prediction, it is a “ tendency to [mis]lead the public with uninformed and unsupported statements.”.

I think there was far more [mis]leading done by WHO and even to an extent, the CDC than by Trump. But in neither case was it intentional.

If politicians are to be held accountable for the lives lost in this pandemic, then the worst jobs by far have been those of Murphy and Cuomo, yet I don’t see them savaged in the leftist media.

JonNC:
Compared to his opponents who recommended going to “Chinatown“…
At the same time when Trump was also in favor of keeping businesses open.
And there are some experts who still believe we should have. They point to Sweden as an example.
Which supports my point.
No one was certain what to do. WHO still can’t decide about masks. Trump, Cuomo, Kemp, Murphy, all of them did what they thought was right.

Interesting. The “experts” get to draw “tentative conclusions”
I did not use the limiting qualifier “expert.” The statement can be applied to anyone. The key here is not a person being an expert or not, but speaking honestly about conclusions from available information and evidence.
And overplaying the severity can lead to more harm
I’m not in favour of overplaying or underplaying.

To repeat the key words I’ve been using:
  • Informed
  • Honest
If politicians are to be held accountable for the live
I’ve not spoken on accountability. But since you’ve brought it up:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Who are you talking to?
With the filters I currently have active on my view I can’t see exactly what it is that you are responding too. But if it is a post written to the an annonymous non-interacting audience telling what you really meant or how the audience should interpret your words that has been a thing here for a few years.

Strange, I know.

If that is not what you observed than my bad, ignore my message.

I think the president spoke his opinion based on what he knew at the time.

Virtually no one was or is today, significantly informed about this virus. The ongoing back and forth about masks is evidence. The varying results from states like Florida and New York show that we really font know what works and doesn’t.
The president stayed his view based on the information he had. He also spoke in a positive way to encourage the people.
That he is criticized for this is stunning. That his motives are questioned By some is despicable.

I think the need to shut down businesses that employ and feed millions was proven to be bogus after the last week and a half of protests with minimal outcry over the virus.

Actually, media salaries were protected while millions lost their jobs by executive orders.
Yes, as well as many other private sector industries, not just media. I am only saying that politicians wages & working conditions are far more protected than those of the private sector.

Compare job loses, compare income streams & it is clear that politicians are the last to loose their jobs, politicians are the last to suffer austerity measures, making politics the safest industry on the planet.
Millions lost their jobs, how many of these were politicians?
Millions were asked to take pay cuts, how many of these were politicians?

No argument.

Can’t argue.

Would you like to give examples?
i believe actually naming posters as examples would be a violation of the TOS.

However might I suggest you use a mirror today and ask yourself that question. I believe after some quiet reflection, in front of a mirror, could lead you to some examples.

However, one would have to be open enough to reflect on their own bias.

just about as original as people who spew hatred every day but then claim “Oh I dont hate him!”
