He is a man of great humility with a passion for the poor. His choice of “Francis” speaks volumes. I am thrilled with the choice. This will energize the 500 million Catholics in latin America as well.

He seems humble and friendly and choosing Francis for his name bodes well. May the Lord inspire him to unify the faithful of his Church.

I’m Jewish. He looks like a great pope. He reminds me of Pope John. Congratulations to the Catholic faith!

I am very thankful he is so conservative. And I was surprised at the choice of name - but I like what it says about him.

Cant help be wonder what kind of impact this will have on the Catholics there when the LDS missionaries are tracking in their areas…

I previously hadn’t heard of him, but from what I’ve read he seems like a great man and a great choice. And what a beautiful name to choose— Pope Francesco! It’s also awesome he’s from South America, I’m really happy Catholics have someone who seems a wonderful new pope. 🙂

For once I’m overjoyed over this. Of course, Pope John Paul II was already in office when I entered the church, so I only had the election of Pope Benedict XVI to go by. I don’t remember having much feeling about that one. Perhaps a bit of relief, thinking that he would get the church back on the straight and narrow. Maybe I was just expecting too much from the man. But with this one, I’m overjoyed!!!

Marie I was just thinking something similar. Hopefully this will put a halt or at least a slow down on the “evangelicals” and JW’s etc who have been trying to “save” latin americans from the “evil” Catholic Church!:gopray2:

To be honest when I saw Pope Francis in the balcony overlooking Saint Peter’s Square, I could feel an awe around him. I do not know much about him but he had this radiance within him that I could not fail to notice. I have such high hopes for Pope Francis. May the Lord Bless him.

I wonder how Kirchner will take it, having instantly become the second most important person in Argentina?

I have an Mexican friend going to his first confession tonight after leaving the church for a protestant church seven years ago and is coming home.

I felt the same thing. There is something very special about this man. The fact that he chose “Francis” as his name speaks volumes. Francis renewed the Church in his time and I pray that Pope Francis will do the same. I am thrilled.

He is quite young-looking for his chronological age. Hopefully he will be the Pope for a good amount of time. And I agree, this should slow down the evangelical poaching.

I admit it’s the exact opposite for me, but I’m hopeful and open to the future.
