Non-Catholic? Why are you on this forum?

Rome lies on the Banks of the Tiber River, so when one “Swims the Tiber”, they are returning home to the Church. At least I think that is what it means! LOL I actually thought they had some kind of swim team and a lot of the teammates were members on this board.

Hummm…in a way I suppose that is correct as well! 😃
:rotfl: That was good!!

I am just curious to know what the reasons are that so many non-Catholics are on this forum. This is Catholic Answers. Are you here to convert - yourself - or us? Do you have a true curiousity or do you just want to show us the error of our ways?
Hi Susan,

It really started when I was reading some stuff by Father John Michael Talbot and realized that his brother Terry and him though from different Churches were still intimate in Christ…I realized that I needed to give it a chance.

So I guess that is why I am here, and you ? 😊

😃 That’s what I thought at first too. I even googled the term and saw some people with the T-shirt with the term on.

I asked a nun because I, too, thought it was some giant swim team, she about wet her pants laughing. I still haven’t lived it down.

So you are here to correct us - to help us see our errors?
Not in the manner you are implying. There are assumptions on both sides. There is nothing wrong with me getting clarification from a Catholic, nor for me to clarify the Protestant (Refomed) stance. I however am not here to say where I believe you are wrong in your own doctrine. Merely to learn and to clarify mine only when something is misportrayed (unless you think you know everything there is to know about us).

I was raised Catholic and attended all Catholic schools; however, I married an evangelical man 31 years ago in his church, so I am unable to received the sacraments. I love my husband very much and we’ve had a very good marriage. I lalso love both faiths, but have been more involved in the evangelical church because my relationship and faith in Christ has grown a lot through the encouragement of my evangelical friends. In the Catholic church I attended, I did not get that encouragement and was looked at as a “holy Joe” for wanting to grow as a Christian. However, this does not mean I despise the Catholic Church; far from it. I now have a daughter raised in the evangelical church who is seriously dating a devout Catholic man. Both attend both churches and he wants to remain Catholic but also grow as a Christian. I, too, attend both the Catholic and evangelical churches on Sunday; Mass at 8:00 and service at my evangelical church at 10:00. Christ sacrificed his life on the cross for me, so the least I can do is give Him a bit of my time on Sunday. I like this forum because I can learn how both faiths can share common ground in some areas, i.e., protection of life, belief in the Trinity and resurrection of Christ, and a desire to demonstrate the love of Christ. Yes, we have many differences. But Jesus is Lord for all of us, and I want to learn all I can about each faith. I am also a member of an evangelical forum and interchurch forum. One thing that upsets me is when forum members of any forum bash the other faith. We are all Christians…Jesus Christ is the reason we will meet in heaven some day and live forever with Him.
God Bless!

All I know is you aren’t Catholic and as I stated before I stay away from non-Catholic threads. I have a hard enough time worrying about my education without worrying about yours. :blessyou: I’ve just seen protestants of all different types all over the place and wondered why. (When I read something that sounds different that what I believe is the truth I always check to see what the poster has stated for a religion in his profile. If the person is other than Catholic, I move on.)

Well, I’m glad you’re here. I have learned a lot from these people. There are quite a few who really know their stuff.

truly I saw that as a place for Catholics to learn about other religions - possibly as an aid to apologetics.:o
I think that is true, but what better way to learn about other religions than to discuss them with people who live them?

We can correct any misinterpretations of our faith that others may understandably have, and answer questions reguarding why we believe as we do.

**hi i’m new here and i just came to see how catholics and others religions are similar and different. and also because i need some help from catholics, i’m a catholic but in 2 weeks i’m going o be baptize in the mormon church and i’m only 16 but i think i dont believe in the catholic church **

Personally, I think those of you who aren’t in the know (or just recently in the know) about the illustrious Tiber Swim Team oughta jump right into the water. Heck, do a cannonball!

Your profile says you’re mormon.

I agreed. It’s just not for me. I am nowhere near learned enough to engage in apologetics or even in some cases to put into coherent thoughts and words why I believe as I do. The words don’t always say what I feel.😊

I’ve posted this before but I’ll post it again. I originally came to CAF to begin with because I wanted to investigate if the Catholic Church is INDEED the Whore of Babylon as I’ve heard plenty of times, more importantly from a rabid anti-catholic that was bashing one of my friends, telling him he wasn’t “saved” belonged to a cult, etc.

Both the non-catholic religions section and the apologetics section are great places to learn about catholicism and its defense against accusations from non-catholics. And it’s cool to see a variety of other denoms/religions hanging out too.

I have become corrupted. I have never made a concious decision to start believing Catholic doctrine but it just sort of happened. It’s like I woke up one morning leaning way more toward Catholicism than Protestantism.

I’m too chicken to jump in the water, so I’m just hanging out on the beach. 🤷
