Non-Catholic? Why are you on this forum?

I’ve posted this before but I’ll post it again. I originally came to CAF to begin with because I wanted to investigate if the Catholic Church is INDEED the Whore of Babylon as I’ve heard plenty of times, more importantly from a rabid anti-catholic that was bashing one of my friends, telling him he wasn’t “saved” belonged to a cult, etc.

Both the non-catholic religions section and the apologetics section are great places to learn about catholicism and its defense against accusations from non-catholics. And it’s cool to see a variety of other denoms/religions hanging out too.

I have become corrupted. I have never made a concious decision to start believing Catholic doctrine but it just sort of happened. It’s like I woke up one morning leaning way more toward Catholicism than Protestantism.

I’m too chicken to jump in the water, so I’m just hanging out on the beach. 🤷
Take the plunge, dude.👍

You guys and the water. . . geeze, don’t make me come get you and throw you in myself!

. . . sneaking up behind Auriel. . .. . . moving stealthily behind Philothea. . .. . . shh, I’m almost behind Curious. . .

I am an Anglo Catholic and I really enjoy this forum for the following reasons:

i) Excellent fellowship with other believers in Christ. 👍

ii) I have tremendous respect for the Catholic faith. 👍

iii) I really learn a great deal here (from Roman Catholicism. …to Orthodoxy). 👍

iv) I enjoy the Vocations forum and encouraging and being encouraged by others search for their vocation and pursuit of religious life. Seeing so many traditional and faithful Catholics pursuing their vocations gives me hope for the future. 👍

v) I enjoy the occasionally didactic dispute over concepts and terminology. :hmmm:

This forum IS the best Religious forum out there…

Because although I believe firmly with every fiber of my being that I am in the right place (the One True Church), I also know that I have a lot to learn and Satan has a way of confusing and confounding.
Can I ask you to read this back to yourself out loud? What does this sound like to you because after reading it about five times to myself it sounds like you are saying that non-catholics are led by Satan and anything they say are only lies from him and that is why you pay no nevermind to our posts. I am thinking this wasn’t your intention but can you see how this sounds? 🤷

I am here to learn. I believe that catholics and protestants can unite under Christ and quit bickering long enough to show this world that we aren’t spoiled brats trying to prove who Daddy loves best but rather that God loves all of us and only desires to have us in His arms out of reach from Satan.

We believe the fundamental Truth that Christ died in place of us to pay the debt that our sins have created. Why we can’t get past this in order to bring Christ to the world around us is and can only be the work of Satan. He has gotten us to turn in on ourselves because while the gates of hell will not prevail it doesn’t mean he can’t distract us enough with our differences to leave the rest of the world in the cold…

But I don’t know why I took this time to write this… apparently since I am a non-catholic you will not read my post anyways… 😉

The purpose of this forum from the perspective of the staff is:

“explore the history and beliefs of non-Catholic and non-Christian faiths, dialogue with their adherents”

The goal of this interreligious dialogue is to remove errors, provide insight and offer new perspectives to those who are interested.

I find it just as interesting that there are people visiting and posting in the non-Catholic forum, who choose to avoid anything that doesn’t have to do with Catholicism.

🤷
My thoughts exactly!

Your profile says you’re mormon.

You should probably start a new thread, asking for advice from ex-Mormons.

Yes…I advise you to search carefully before making a committment. There are many doctrines in the Mormon Church that the vast majority of Christendom find difficult to swallow and outside the scope of scripture or tradtion.

That is not to say negative things about Mormons who can be some of the most hard working, dedicated and relgious people you will meet. They do a great deal for their fellow believers and their Church (things many of us could learn from).

All I know is you aren’t Catholic and as I stated before I stay away from non-Catholic threads. I have a hard enough time worrying about my education without worrying about yours. :blessyou: I’ve just seen protestants of all different types all over the place and wondered why. (When I read something that sounds different that what I believe is the truth I always check to see what the poster has stated for a religion in his profile. If the person is other than Catholic, I move on.)
And you have that right. There are other Catholics that are willing to answer my questions.

i’m becoming a mormon because i think thats the true church of jesus and they also told to ask to god if the book of mormon its true and that if i get a good feeling then that was the holy spirit telling me that the book of mormon is true. but they also teach somethings that i dont like very much so:) i don’t know what to do and i’m only 16

Not in the manner you are implying. There are assumptions on both sides. There is nothing wrong with me getting clarification from a Catholic, nor for me to clarify the Protestant (Refomed) stance. I however am not here to say where I believe you are wrong in your own doctrine. Merely to learn and to clarify mine only when something is misportrayed (unless you think you know everything there is to know about us).
YES!

Hi Sigi and welcome to the forums -

Mormon, eh? Interesting. How’d you here of it? Who taught you about it?

The “we can become like God” thing is idolatry in my opinion. Probably the reason you don’t like it, also.

Think of it this way. If there is only ONE God, then how can we become Gods? Only Jesus can lay claim to that and we understand that He is One with the Father in Unity with the holy Spirit.

If we each become gods, who would we pray to? Would I pray to you if you became a god? I seriously doubt it. That is, without a doubt, idolatry.

Maybe you should do more investigation before you jump in.

The top of this page has a bar, click on Catholic Answers-Library. From there look on the left side of the screen, they have information about different subjects. Click on NonCatholic Groups. There are 5 different “talks” on the Mormon religion. Maybe these will help.

I will be praying for you. :gopray:

I myself am me… I follow the Buddhist practices because I’ve found them to be extremely logical, and they really don’t conflict with other religions, and it’s not even a religion itself according to most scholars. It’s the moderation, middle, balance, center between extremes that is quite peaceful.
I am a former Buddhist who converted to Christianity after about 30 years of Buddehist practice. I had a minor ordination in a Japanese Buddhist sect
( Honmon Butsuryu Shu). I would be happy to talk with you if you are interested.

Sigfredo,

Please, please, please, make time to listen to this 1 hr. program.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/seriessearchprog.asp?pgnu=2&SeriesID=-6892289
Scroll down to #38; Gene Fadness.

Even 30 min. will give you this person’s conversion story. The 2nd 25 min. is people calling and emailing the show with questions.

One cannot go by feelings to discern what Truth is. I get a ‘good feeling’ when I eat ice cream, but that doesn’t mean it’s Heavenly Food or that God wants me to eat a lot of it!

In fact, many of the greatest Saints went through periods of spiritual dryness. Search for St. John of the Cross and the Dark Night of the Soul.

I’m signing off now to watch this week’s The Journey Home show re-broadcast!

I’ll check back later. You’ve been given a lot of good advice here.
We’re praying for you!

Peace,
Mimi

well my friend was a catholic but now he is a mormon and he was the one that took me with the elders and about the god thing it was a guy from the mormon church and also the elders told that it was the prophet smith who said “like we are god was and like god is we may become” or something like that. then i told him that the catholic church says that there is only one god and then he said that how could be only be one god that our god has a mother and a father and that we have a celestial mother which is the wife of our god.
