I have not been following this strand, but here’s my thoughts…

It does not bother me. In fact, this boldness with the Truth encourages me for its Christ-likeness. Our Lord often used similar, if not “harsher,” rhetoric when He confronted false religion, particluarly in a long sermon. Matthew 23:13-33. Jesus’ concluding comments: Serpents, brood of vipers! how can you escape the condemnation of hell?

“A front for the kingdom of Satan” is almost euphamism compared to Christ’s terminology.
yep! the problem with that is Jesus wouldnt be saying this to His own Church,The One Holy Apostolic Catholic Church, but to those who left and follow heresies.

and like wild dogs they will attack that which they don’t understand.once after hearing something like in the OP a thought/voice popped into my head “the enemy is getting bolder”??it took awhile but i finally figured it out.the enemy is getting bolder in his attacks on the True Christian Faith, and the Church.

Good point, in fact, the relationship is even more personal. He didn’t just say this to the chuch, but to His own beloved Israel, “A special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth” on whom God “set His love.” (Dt 7:6-7, Ex 19:5) The ones over whom Jesus wept.(Mt 23:37). Teh apple of his eye (Dt 43:10). None of this is said of the church. The church isn’t as precious to Christ as Israel is; they’re the root, we’re just grafted in! If he’d confront his beloved Israel, he’ll surely confront his Church.

You don’t think he’ll confront HIs church??? Read revelation, and the 7 letters to the 7 churches. And those are His true churches!

I believe i read Jesus saying “I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

The Lord of the house will not curse His own house.

what are we talking about here?

A Catholic in here has told me that my religion is not of Christ does that bother you?

Any Christian denomination being equated to Satan would bother me.

I totally agree with you … when some people on this forum say that Luther was an anti-Christ, or that Jan Huss deserved to be burned at the stake ( yes yes, someone said that ! ) it bothers me too …
but it also bothers me when some Protestants say that the Pope is the antichrist and other things like that …

Well, Franky Schaeffer is a bit incendiary but the silence of evangelicals over the destruction of the Christian (o what, that should be Catholic, Coptic and Orthodox who are not real christians in their eyes) is deafening and speak volumens.
And of course the war in Irak was made on lies and the Pope and the Russians opposed that war based on common sense.
But lest not speak about the war, lest speak about the silence of the evangelicals. Why they do not include in their sites about christian persecution, anything about the persecution of traditional non evangelical christians in the middle east?
That the point Franky Schaeffer is trying to make.
Well I receive a magazine that supports persecuted Christians, it is Evangelical but mentions persecutions on all types of Christians, for example, in Egypt, the Copts …

It mentions the persecutions of Evangelicals, Lutherans, Catholics and Orthodox in Erythrea … who are detained in very harsh conditions, sometimes in metal containers, so they stifle to death in summer and freeze to death in winter …
do you think that the Protestants throw at the Catholics’ face that the Pope is the anti-Christ, or that Catholics throw at the Protestants that Luther was a demon, and other such things that I’ve seen here ? ( as for the Orthodox, I don’t know what they could “throw” or what the other Christians could throw at them … )
I think they rather pray WITH and FOR each other, so that God might give them the strength not to deny the Lord , IN SPITE of their doctrinal differences …

Dispensationalism. We might want to start another thread for that one. For now, your point was basically that Christ won’t confront his own beloved church. My response was, if Christ would confront his beloved Israel, then he will confront his beloved church.

If I may, Israel is nearer and dearer to God’s heart than the church. If he would confront the Jews (Israel/Pharisees) for apostasy, then I assure you he would have no problem confronting his church for apostasy.

Is that enough to clarify my point? If not, maybe we should start another thread and attempt to develop it more fully.

Jesus wants a pure bride. Do you think the RCC is above reproach? Do you think Jesus has nothing to say to your church? yet he confronted Ephesus. yet he confronted Pergammum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia…your own supposed first pope received the strongest rebuke on the pages of Scripture, with Get behind me Satan.

The type of thinking that says “jesus has nothing to say to my church” is frightening.

no matter how you try you can not deny the fact that you are stating that the rcc is the bride of Christ.

Very powerfull needs to be said again.

God is God. He can do whatever pleases Him. my answer was in reference to a crazy post that i read. Jesus built a Church which to us is the new Israel. this Church was found by the apostles which were Jewish people. this church is universal for jews, greeks and gentiles alike. if any pope, priests, or other commites sin against the church and God, they will surely be punished and replaced. but His church shall never err or go apostate.

I was listening again to a talk by John MacArthur (who I understand is fairly well-respected in Protestant circles). In the 7:00 minute mark of his sermon in this file, he states the following:*In the long war on the truth, the most formidable, relentless, and deceptive enemy has been Roman Catholicism. It is an apostate, corrupt, heretical, false Christianity. It is a front for the kingdom of Satan.*Protestants, non-Catholics, does this sort of comment bother you? In what way??
I have heard Catholics make the same sort of charge against the Reformers. I think that both sides should prayerfully consider tempering their rhetoric considerably.

It bothers me because I do not feel it is justified to attack fellow Christians simply because we do not agree with them. On a similar note though I object to Catholics who call Protestant’s Satan’s spawn or some such similar name.

In a world where Christianity is so often under attack and where so many people have not heard the Gospel, I think it is wrong for Christians to snipe at each other. Our efforts would be bettered utilized in carrying the message to those who don’t believe.
Good point. Unfortunately many of both faiths see themselves as "I’m in MY fort, so s---- you. They bash us - we bash them. We’re better than them - they’re convinced we are with the dark side. Wow. What a waste of energy and misunderstanding. You can easily see who is behind this way of thinking and what entity it is that inspires people to think they are the chosen ones and another camp is on their way to hell. This is NOT a sign of fruit of the spirit, nor is it a good model to follow. If righteous indignation were all that is needed to test the spirit then those who do violence in the name of religion would all be justified. But they are NOT. Who has the authority to condemn?
Jesus asks us to be like little children in the way we love others - not to be childish and judgemental. Who among us is without sin? No, we are called to be peace makers, yes to stand up for what is right, but bashing another’s religion, even the absence of religion, is NOT right. When are we going to learn?

Hey again Sola, so are Catholics willing accomplices to Satan’s plans? How about Catholic clergy? And the Pope? Or are they just blind puppets? How do you and MacArthur mean this?
