Non-Catholics: Why are you here?

I came here hoping to find other like-minded people; hoping I’d be brought into the community. However, other than finding answers for the faith, I haven’t found any such friends here, but quite a bit of discouragement and even hot-tempered folk who don’t know when to keep their mouths closed, and refrain their fingers from writing things that would make other people’s entry into the church hard-earned, rather than simple, easy and burdenless. As Christ said,“My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Montchevlier, Please allow me to extend my hand in freindship. I find it truly regretable that you have been subject to some of the less tactful, however I believe, well meaning folks that meet here. I pray that your experiences with the Lord’s Catholic Church have been more inviting elsewhere. Do continue to post; and, consider joining one or more of the groups here. I assure you, there are quite a few freindly and kind members, that will do their best to make you feel welcomed.

I browsed your profile. Might I suggest the movie Beckett? The film should fit your interests in history and Catholic martyrs. If you enjoy Peter O’Toole’s portrayal of Henry III in the film, you can catch him in the same charactor role, at a later point in life, in The Lion in Winter.

Being somewhat of a history buff myself, I’d be happy to discuss your topic of the moment should you find time to present it. Once again, Welcome! Vivat Jesu!

How about a man for all seasons

Wow, a lot of Catholics posting on a thread for non-Catholics. 🙂

I’m here (occasionally) because this is a Christian site. I believe that Catholics are Christians and are generally fine people to spend time with.

I originally came here for fellowship and encouragement in my Christian journey.
However, I continue to come back here because I have discovered how beautiful Catholicism really is, and I’m very interested in converting.

Godspeed, Tyler, Godspeed

When I first came here it was to learn more about catholicism. Now I am entering RCIA this year and will hopefully be a full member of the church by next Easter. 👍

Do not feel bad. I came here for friendship to. I suppose it is a two way street. You have to invite and you have to accept. I may be a bit shy. You may consider rethinking this. What kind of friends are you looking for?
I’m looking for someone who won’t say at my first mistake, “BEGONE SATAN!”, and will understand that I am a new to Catholicism and I don’t know a fair bit. I’m basically looking for a guide INTO Catholicism, so that, when I become an official Catholic, I won’t do anything wrong. Now, I know I’m suppose to buy a few books, they’re on my wishlist on amazon, but these things take time and money; which I don’t have much of. And I like the idea of mutual respect to be a big part of friendship; none of that, I do one for you, you do one for me sorta nonsense.

I’ll need to look into those. 😃

Thanks for the offer.

Hi, MC…check the public libraries, they may have the books you want to read. I do this before I turn to buying books. Also, sometimes, public libraries conduct some sort of garage sales for some books they do not want to stock, you may find a gem there.

Hope this helps.

OK. Let us both say get behind me and I will do my best to honor what you say.

I have never met a Catholic that was formerly Protestant that was arrogant. I have learned more from former Protestants that are now Catholic than many Catholics that appear to be arrogant.

I believe that it would be stated that this is Catholic Answers having accomodated a site for non-catholics where as you might expect since it is Catholic Answers many Catholics visit.

I have always thought there was “mystery” in the catholic faith. I have been curious about it since I was a child. I have never really known any catholics until recently. I moved to a new place and my very good friend is catholic. I found this website to further my research. I have learned alot about catholicism and have read alot of books. I attend Mass at our local parish regularly and am starting RCIA classes this fall. My children start PSR this fall too. I hope to be a full member by Easter. This forum is awesome for us seeking information.

I came here because my brother, his wife and their two sons are devout Catholics and as gracious and good a group of Christians as I have ever known. I have no doubt that they are true disciples of Jesus Christ and that their discipleship is informed by their having embraced the Catholic faith. Catholicism is rich in history and deep in theology and initially I thought I could better understand how practitioners of the faith viewed it if I came to a site like this.

I also see that there is more than a little misinformation and misunderstanding of my own faith on this site, so I have tried to “stick up for it” a little. My desire on that front has been to correct what I perceive as errors. I think it would be in extremely poor taste for me to try and proselyte here because I am a guest. However, I think it would be perfectly acceptable for Catholics here to try and proselyte me. It’s your site, after all. 🙂

It is my understanding that any attempts to proselytize are met with dismissal.

I have been asked by LDS to attend functions. I ask the following questions?

Do you believe that God The Father came down from heaven to have relations with Mary to bear a son, Jesus?

Does God reside on Golob?

Do LDS believe that there are 3 heavens, terrestial, celestial and telestial?

Doe LDS teach that Jesus and Satan are brothers?

Does LDS teach that if I become LDS I will become a god?

Does LDS teach that when I die, I am LDS, I become a god and get a planet?

Does LDS teach that the blood shed in the agony on the garden is the source of our salvation?

Does LDS teach that works merit heaven?

Does LDS use King James Bible, Book Of Mormon, Pearl of Great price, Doctrines and Covenant as all equal as it regards The Bible.

That’s all I can recall right now. Just want to be sure. I just want to be sure I have everything straight.

Coptic I don’t think that we Catholics trying to proselytize Mormons would be an issue but if Mormons are trying to lead Catholics away from the CC it would be and that’s when dismissal would take place.

As to your other questions, those are off topic. We have a thread asking the very questions you brought up here.

I welcome any who are looking at us and I hope that we remain gracious and a good witness to the truth of our faith.

Not exactly dripping with sincerity. These canards are frankly boring to me. They’ve been answered repeatedly by competent LDS scholarship for decades. Their repetition ad nauseum doesn’t make them any more accurate now than when Evangelical anti-Mormons first posited them. Get back to me when you know Kolob from Golob, Doctrine and Covenants from Doctrines and Covenant and understand that yes, the King James version of the Bible is “equal as it regards The Bible” because, well, it’s a bible. 🤷 (I’ll save the usage of do, doe, and does for another time).

I see many posts that vary in topic. You may wish to visit “born again christians”, the topic at present is charisms. It is off topic. You advice as to my questions is not consistent with my experience.

I cannot understand how you can conclude the notion of sincere or not sincere from my questions? Read them again, Do you believe, I understand, help me understand if you choose to as to how you were able to infer sincerity or lack thereof? No one claims perfection. I make typographical errors as do you. Forgive me for mispelling the planet Golob.

I appreciate your offering me an insight based on my error.
Thank you
