Feminism shouldn’t be used as an insult.
God is not a male and there’s nothing wrong with referring to God as God without the words He or Him. While I don’t do this, I don’t think we should judge other people.
Nothing wrong with it as long as it’s in conversation and doesn’t involve the speaker editing the liturgy of the Church to square with his personal preferences.

And there most certainly is something wrong with trying to forbid others from using male pronouns to refer to God!

I think this can be settled and shut down very quickly using the following:

Jesus IS God.
Jesus IS man.
He is the God-Man.

Case closed.

If a person doesn’t believe Jesus IS God 100% and also man 100% then that person is already in serious trouble long before they even begin the argument against calling God Father or referring to God as He or Him.
Malleus: Well said and I totally agree.

What is the issue here? Is it the sex of God or is it the use of pronouns to refer to God?:confused:

Malleus : I approached it from the standpoint that some were objecting to the use of the Masculine in relation to GOD. But I could be wrong. Perhaps their motive is benign.

Jesus called God the Father. He did not call Him Mother, Sister or Mother/Father or Brother/Sister. He called Him Father.

I think that probably means something and that something is very important in the scheme of things.

And just how do you know that God is not male? Jesus, who is a part of the Blessed Trinity along with the Father:eek:, whoops there is that word again, and the Holy Spirit, which comprise the Godhead, was certainly male or do you argue that He was some sexless creature brought forth to unite both sexes into a common non sexual scheme of things?
Our Supreme Deity GOD, as the First Godhead is the Father of All Creation…however this was after the Split of the Androgenous, he and she being…thereby, creating the second Godhead…known as the Holy Spirit/Ghost or Mother GOD…then together they feduncated and together…in their LOVE for one another…created the third Godhead, the Son, as the Word of GOD.

This culminates the Trinity…both male and female GODs…

In our Seattle parish, we’re not allowed to use He or Him as a pronoun for God. Of course, “it” sounds stupid.

Anybody encounter this?
I digress. A member of our parish in Oregon commented that when he and a few others attended Mass in the Seattle area, they were the only ones present–certainly not emblematic of the entire Seattle area Catholic community, but not a good sign of orthodox vitality. Thus, what I have learned about the events of your parish, perhaps the Seattle area Catholic community is being inundated by liberalism.

Sorry but you’re gravely mistaken and should read some entry level catechism - as it is right now your viewpoints are not Christian and in no way Catholic.

Google “Athanasian Creed” and Baltimore Catechism.

Um, no, that is heresy. And most definitely not Catholic dogma of the Trinity.

Great Advise!👍

Amen! Me thinks someone needs to lean the truth and/or see a shrink.👍

That is despicable. Yes, you can refer to God as “he”. The Pope has many times in his sermons, and teachings.

Never heard such a thing and I went to RCC schools, even through High School…we were all taught and know the history of the Trinity, the 3 Godheads…the first is our Supreme Father God…the second Godhead of the Trinity is the Mother God…and the third Godhead of this Trinity, is the Son, as the Word of God.

Maybe there is some confusion in pronouncing which God is being referenced when you use the word God in prayer? Usually, when praying to God, it is assumed we are praying to The One, The All, The First Godhead as our Supreme Father God…HE

I knew CA was in bad shape, but just…wow:eek:! I could have imagined this before the fall of the pagan empires but recently?

To the OP, liturgically the Church has spoken authoritatively that we should steer clear of inclusive language (Liturgiam Authenticam, IIRC). Ask your priest to explain why they are changing the words. If there is no change, then go to the bishop. If that fails, then to CDWDS.

Yes, in the diocese where I live, I encounter this very often.
We call it "inclusive language"-
a “reminder” that God is the "both/and" not the "either/or".

When I refer to God, I do so as the “Father” and I use male pronouns. I state upfront (as in the case of scripture study or faith sharing groups) that this is how I relate to God, and I do not apologise for it, but I mean no disrespect to anyone who feels differently, and I do not correct anyone who uses other language.

Technically, this is not allowed by the Church- vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_const_19631204_sacrosanctum-concilium_en.html

A) General norms
    1. Regulation of the sacred liturgy depends solely on the authority of the Church, that is, on the Apostolic See and, as laws may determine, on the bishop.
  1. In virtue of power conceded by the law, the regulation of the liturgy within certain defined limits belongs also to various kinds of competent territorial bodies of bishops legitimately established.
3. Therefore no other person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority.

That said, exactly who said you are "not allowed" to refer to God the way the Church does?
This is something I believe you should most definitely talk to your Pastor about!

So, you believe there was a single being, both male and female, who split to become two beings: these two beings had sex to produce a third, and each of the three is a separate God?

This is not Catholic.
This is not Christian.
This is not any religion I know of that exists in the modern world.

First, you have the order wrong - Father begets Son, Father and Son beget Holy Spirit. Second, God is not created - this implies he isn’t God. The Son and the HS weren’t created by the Father, they were ‘begotten, not made, one in being with the Father’

And there is no female. Some people think the Holy Spirit can be referred to by She, but this is also theologically wrong. Please do as others suggest and read the catechism on the trinity or talk to a priest.

God bless

I haven’t read the whole thread yet, but I don’t think gender is the issue. My impression was the use of a pronoun. Instead of “HE did not call HIM Mother, Sister or Mother/Father or Brother/Sister,” the sentence would read, “Jesus did not call God Mother, Sister…”

Using “He” or "Him’ to refer to God as a whole doesn’t offend true feminists. It’s just a convention of speech. You need to use some kind of pronoun once in a while. “He” is just dandy. Making language awkward or stupid isn’t a feature of feminism. God is much more than a human being, but we need to be able to use our own humanity as a point of reference.

Now I could be wrong about the original post, but I don’t see anything that suggests this is a feminist issue.

On the bright side, I betcha a cold beer that the person “enforcing” this policy at your parish has either totally gray or totally died hair. This brand of “invent your own religion and call it catholic” is on the wane big time. They’ve been in charge for a generation, but almost nobody has found their innovations and inventions inspiring. Truth resonates in souls across generations in ways that theological fads don’t. Another 15 years and these dissenters will be gone from the ranks of the priesthood and religious.

When I went to college in the early 90’s my Newman Center parish was so bad that they actually had the audacity to “improve” on the Lord’s Prayer! (Our Father, Our Mother, God, who art in heaven…)

As usual with effective lies, there is a nugget of truth stretched and distorted out of all recognition. God is not male since God is not a sexual being. Humanity was originally created in God’s image and THEN God pulled a rib OUT of Adam and created Eve with it. To me, this says that the characteristics of BOTH sexes are present within God since we were jointly created in His image. The reason we need to refer to Him as He is not because of his essence, but because of the ROLES that He has revealed to us that He will play. Jesus was male, historical fact. Jesus told us to call God Father. Fact.

The problem with these dissenters is that they place a far higher trust in their own reason and conscience (however formed) than they do in objective revelation. That’s bass ackwards and predictably leads to disaster.

did you ask the pastor why?
what was the response?
God is not an it, God is personal, 3 persons in fact sharing a divine nature, and God the Father and God the Son have revealed themselves as living in that relationship, the closest in human terms we can come to understanding the family of the Holy Trinity. They have in so doing revealed themselves as masculine in gender, and the Son explicitly took on a male human nature. To insist otherwise is just plain heresy.

and when you say “we are forbidden” what do you mean. Do ushers with clubs go down the aisles beating anyone who prays I believe in God the Father?

MaryMessenger, please come back and tell us if the problem is the use of pronouns or the use of male pronouns.

then did not attend an Catholic school that handed on Catholic teaching as NOTHING about this description is theologically sound. please take steps immediately beginning on the CA homepage to remediate the false education you received (through no fault of your own).
