So you’re admitting the chance that your religion might not be true and my religion might be true?
I am admitting that I do not pretend to know the will of God, and can only know what He wants me to. Parts of your religion are true, I admit this wholeheartedly.

Ok…then why do Catholics want the entire world to become Catholic?

Neil LA,
Do you believe that God is Truth?
And do you believe that there is truth and untruth, right and wrong?

As the late Philospher Mortimer Adler pointed out, the Eastern religions are very good at keeping their beliefs in “logic tight” compartments from the rest of their thinking, much like water tight compartments on a ship are meant to keep the entirty of the ship from flooding when the hull is damaged. There are Hindus and Buddhists who are excellent scientists who will rigourously abide by “no mutualy contradictory positions can both be true at the same time” when dealing with science matters, but when it comes to religion “all paths lead to the same place”

Or to paraphrase GK Chesterton “Buddhism and Christianity are very much alike–especially Buddhism”

Yes…God is TRUTH…but I think that saying that ONE religion contains ALL the truth is limiting that which is UNLIMITED.

I believe I’ve expressed this point previously.

Because we want everyone to have the best chance of reaching heaven and spending eternity with God.
I want to go beyond heaven - I want to go to the abode of GOD…
My scriptures say that the abode of God is beyond the heavenly realms.

You said earlier that Jesus Christ was God?
If God is Truth, and Jesus is God, and in John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
So if Jesus is God, and thus is also Truth, and Jesus said that he is the only way to the Father, well, then the only way to reach heaven is through Jesus. right?

That’s not me…so lets not deal with suppositions, lets deal with the conversation at hand…

Love? How can you say that God sending His Son to earth to be violently killed as atonement is loving?

How can you say that God telling us that unbelievers and heretic should be killed or are going to hell is loving?

I don’t get it.

To me Christianity seems like a fear-based religion.
My thoughts only:

God created the universe with all its beauty. Beauty in the violence of storms, stars, black holes, and mighty winds.

He created man and woman - frail and lonely in the midst of such great beauty. God gave man and woman the Word to follow: The word was not enough.

God came to earth to not only talk the talk but to walk the walk.

God walked among us and died for us to show us that we are not alone. We only need to follow Him because he is the Word.

Heaven is the abode of God. It is above the skies which are often called the heavens, but heaven, the place, is the abode of God.

Ok…very nicely put, by the way.

Why can’t God come to earth more than once to be able to lead ALL people that they aren’t alone?

That’s assuming that this is what Jesus actually said.

You’re still assuming that the Bible is true.

And what if I believe God is Mother? Why would I want to go to the Father.

And what exactly is Jesus saying anyway? It could be read several ways…

Which “me” is he talking about?

God could have made us like beautiful silk flowers. Beautiful creations that do not wilt, suffer and die. But they are not real nor are they alive. We are alive. We are real and we must make our journey.

I believe that it is within the Holy Scriptures that we can find meaning for our suffering and death.

Sure there is death, sin, violence in the Holy Scriptures - Old Testament especially. The Scriptures do not white wash or cover up the violence of human nature. But the Holy Scriptures also give us hope.

Um…that seems to be avoiding the question. How do you KNOW?

I believe that Hindu worship and faith is more meaningful and more of a direct way of talking with God than Catholic worship.

How can you convince me otherwise? Come on…If you REALLY know that the Catholic Chuch is the TRUTH you must have a reason. What is the reason that the Catholic Church is the Absolute Truth?
Hmmm…It seems odd that I person who studies religions can throw around the word “KNOW”, so easily…

The Catholic faith is just that: A FAITH. A faith that its adherents “know” to be true because of their “faith”. Without faith, its really a moot question. If you’re looking for concrete evidence for the validity of the Catholic Church and existance of God, its really, “all relative”, so to speak:)

Well, there is historical proof that John at least was the apostle of Christ(God) and it is historically true that John wrote his Gospel. I am not talking about Christian history, I am talking pre-Christian Rome. John was banished because of his belief, by a pagan who was not Christian.
Well, I got to go, but I will try to post later, and I hope I will be able to get online over the weekend.

When you say “Holy Scriptures” please allow that there are more scriptures than the Bible…

Ok…so you are allowing that the assertion that the Catholic Church alone contains the fullnes of truth is RELATIVE and not absolute?

Yes, vegetarianism is God’s original plan for mankind. Many Jews are vegetarian for that reason.

But we humans are imperfect, so God has to “modify” his original plan now and then.😉
Is that why he gave us canine teeth? Plan B?
