Apparently not, according to some, when being a victim impinges on the welfare of others’ lives, such as in the case of teachers and their students.
Because of their role* in loco parentis*, teachers have a de facto duty to protect the lives of the children that they supervise. They may have a right to be victim, but they don’t have the right to turn their charges into victims.

Why the resistance to seeing that gun control laws *are not working, *and why the resistance to ideas *which have worked? *
So, protect the schools, but ignore the other places where innocent people are being attacked?

Mass shooters have hit theaters, malls, first responders, private residences, etc. If we’re going to protect the public, we have to protect them all, and the only suggestion from gun right advocates so far it placing guards at school.

Why is there a resistance to stricter registration, and requiring documentation of all sales including private sales?

Why is there a resistance to a gun buyer disclosing mental health problems for everyone in the household, that may have an access to the gun?

Why is there a resistance to a gun buyer disclosing members of the household with a criminal history, that may have access to a gun?

Why is there a resistance to requiring guns, not in use, to be stored in a gun safe?

Why is there resistance to smaller magazines?

Why is there a resistance to insuring guns?

Why is the only solution offered to put more guards in one location of an attack and not all the places we see attacks happen? It seems to minimize the problem, in my opinion.

Why don’t you understand free people naturally resist infringements on their liberties?

Who are you to tell me what to do with my property when not in use?

Who are you to tell me what I must insure?

Who are you to tell me what magazine size I need?

Who are you tell me and another free citizen how to conduct a transaction between us?

Notice we never tell you that you must own a gun and what kind of gun you must own?

We actually respect people and their choices; you do not.

Here’s what should happen:

I know the cultures are different and I’ve refrained from commenting on an American problem from a scottish perspective, but the issue seems much simpler here GET RID OF GUNS.
Your nation bans heroin, yet has the the highest rates of heroin abuse in Europe no?

Mexico bans private ownership of firearms yet has insane levels of gun homicides, same as the US city of Chicago…why does banning something only make it worse?

Using heroin as a example doesn’t add to the debate as there is not another country that has legalised the use of this substance. I already stated that the cultures of our countries differ but from this side of the pond most of us just don’t get this fascination with lethal weaponry and the need to have them

Respect my choice not to live in a world where I have to be concerned about getting caught in the crossfire of people who believe it’s an infringement on their right to require proper registration, training, etc. Gun rights have infringed on many Americans, who had a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They’ve lost all those rights, but they won’t complain from the grave.

Remember your rights the next time you buy a vehicle, or a home.

Wrong. Portugal has decriminalized ALL drugs.

Considering the list of abuses that Scotland has suffered at the hands of various British monarchs, I find your cultural perspective odd. Maybe Scottish culture likes to be terrorized by their government?

I find it interesting that the NRA has long argued for the right to bear arms to keep the government from becoming a police state. Now they argue for armed guards in schools, theaters, stores and churches. Isn’t that a police state?

WHat most people don’t realize is that Wayne Pierre was giving the liberals what they want. He is basically saying, “Fine, you want to disarm the country and make your Utopian gun free zones, which are a miserable failure, so…in order to keep our children safe from violent criminals, we suggest you put armed guards and police EVERYWHERE.”

Liberals want a police state, not the NRA.

What happened to the America I grew up in? We had a pride and thankfulness in being lucky enough to be born in this country. Now it seems it’s a matter of convenience to use that country has a reason to necessitate owning all types of guns, because we’re being terrorized by the government.

Actually, that’s pretty much been the case since 1791.

Perhaps if you review just how our country was founded and if you understand our constitution and the Federalist Papers that inspired it, you might have a better understanding of why we have the right to bear arms in this country. Just because a few mentally ill people engage in the improper use of such weapons is no reason to ban their ownership and use by law abiding citizens.

You don’t have to buy a gun, but there’s not much that can be done about getting caught in a crossfire with or without a gun ban.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I think we’ve more than covered a well regulated Militia necessary to the security of a free State.

What happened to this country? It has been taken over by big-government, Progressive statists who think the average American is a moron that needs to be dependent on the government.
