Interesting. We in the Orthodox Church have been fasting on Wed and Fri (from meat and dairy) for the history of the Church. It’s also prescribed in the Didache. The apparitions may be worth a second look.
Sorry I dug up an older thread…J. J. probably won’t be replying.

Medjugotrge is very popular here as a pilgtimage place… So is Achill House of Prayer,

I will see if I can find it. Thanks.
Let me know what you think. I watched it from beginning to end.

The movie is dated but still readily available…extending the reach of Medjugorje. This continued on and off and on reach I’m getting from Medjugorje… I’m wondering where the Church stands and how I should approach it.

Has there been any official statement on Medjugorje by the Vatican or local diocese since the article in 2015 which began this thread? Didn’t it say something was “imminent”?

The background to Medjugorje begins with the relationship between the Franciscans and the Diocesan Clergy. At the onset of WW2 the Diocesan clergy left to go to a place of safety. The Franciscans stayed with their flock. When the Diocesan Clergy returned at the end of the war, they expected the Franciscan Clergy to vacate the Churches and let them ( the Diocesan Clergy) take over again. The people preferred the ministry of the Franciscans.
Initially when the apparitions began, Bishop Zanic was supportive , and positive towards the young people and the visions.
Quoting from a book I bought in Medugorje over twenty years ago ’ The Truth about Medjugorje’ by Dr. Ljudevit Rupeic - The communist and (officially) atheist state management in Yugoslavia began to take note of the fact that the Bishop of Mostar’s positive stance toward the apparitions- expressed clearly in his oral and written statements, as well as in his public appearances- stood in contrast to the official state attitude toward the events, namely that the apparitions were counter revolutionary…
…Officials of the State Security Police summoned Zanic to Sarajevo and there threatened to imprison him unless he stopped speaking in favour of the apparitions. Their threats worked impressively on the bishop who returned to Mostar another man.
Later on, the bishop told Fr. Jozo, I cannot expose myself anymore, I am not ready to go to prison for Medjugorje."

Again, I am asking, does anyone know if the Church has announced any decision or further clarification in terms of the status of this as a private devotion, since this article was written a year ago?

sorry it took so long. I have been busy! I watched it over two nights. Tierra de Maria - Mary’s Land. I really liked it. I liked the personal stories! Especially that of the abortion doctor.

I have not heard what the status is on Medjugore. Now I know the name means among mountains. I didn’t notice when the movie was made. It seems like lots of people believe. Glad I watched the movie.

I prefer that they not be approved since I’d rather not fast on bread and water on Wed and Fri, but I just don’t get how 7 people can get away with making everything up.

No fasting! It’s Wednesday and I’m eating junk food. Yaaah!
Actually fasting Wednesdays and Fridays is ancient church practice dating back to the apostles, something that is still practised by Eastern Catholics and the Orthodox, and some traditional Latin Catholics.

In fact this was western practice right up to the 17th century, for some reason it died out, and I honestly don’t know why or how.
