The coalition of nuns supports abortion rights.

They argue for the primacy of conscience over the teachings of the church.

When conservative dissidents become a public scandal, it appears as if the Church is more than willing to take immediate and harsh action to silence them. Liberal dissidents generally get handled much more gently it seems to me: they have to be blatant and consistent in their vocal opposition to evoke much of a response from the RCC. Since these ‘nuns’ are presumably under an oath of obedience, why does the RCC not order them to silence, forbid them from writing or speaking at any time or any place for any reason, demand that they confine themselves for the rest of their natural lives to cloistered cells, and warn them that any failure to obey such direct orders will result in immediate excommunication and dissociation from all rights and privileges within the RCC. Take just such a consistent, hard line with dissidents on the Left and they will fall off the radar screen posthaste. (One will note that Hans Kung has been the 'Invisible Theologian for two decades, even though the BBC has interviewed him after the ascension of Ratzinger, in an obvious attempt to rehabilitate Kung and restore him to the limelight).

Some months ago, I happened across a book in the library which had interviews with several former Catholic dissidents, all of them disciplined. I vaguely recognized only a couple of the people’s names, though I realized in skimming the book that I had read several articles or books by the folks featured in this volume. Almost to a person these dissidents had long since lost any voice in the RCC and as a result the mass media no longer found them useful as foils by which to try to foist change upon the RCC. It brought home to me just how effective decisive action would be if the Church would just be consistent in enforcing it’s policies on discipline.

What happened to obedience to the church – especially for those in it’s service?

How better to bring down an institution than from within. If nothing public is done in situations like this, the reputation of the Church can be very much harmed.

Dont forget- the gates of hell will not prevail.

I hope they get a bite on the bum by the Rott.

They are no longer Catholics, and are hypocritical in remaining in the Church.

They probably should be excommunicated for their bald-faced support of abortion and other morally illicit issues.
I heard it said on Catholic Radio that they, by speaking out in favor of abortion, have already excommunicated themselves.

So sad. Pray for all members of the NCAN that they can be rescued from error.

Pax tecum!

Yes, that is true, as it is with any Catholic who does something like this. However, I really wish that excommunication would be publically announced so that it can be shown that the Church does not tolerate this type of dissent and disrespect for life. These “nuns” make me sick.

This says it all. May these women return to the truths of God.

3. We encourage respect for the moral adulthood of women and will choose legislators who will recognize the right of women to make reproductive decisions and receive medical treatment according to the rights of privacy and conscience.

What is wrong with these people?

I cant begin to wrap my head around these people- sisters of the Church!- saying that abortion and gay rights are fine!

Dont worry brother!

They are no different than Judas, who had the truth and denied it.

Jesus warned us of this.

No surprise.

Just remember, they are not led by the Holy Spirit, and they need our prayers because they are so bold to defy Holy Father and the Church-
ANATHAMA to them!

I do not doubt that but could you please cite a reference to that. Also if that is true then could it not be argued that any Priest who supports Birth Control (as they are an abortificient) could they be excommunicated too?

“Relgious” who do not accept the teaching of the Church will not accept discipline by the Church either. One must remember that some of these orders accumulated substantial assets through the donations of others, back when they were real religious orders, and have become little more than private leftist foundations with putative nuns at the head.

But the discipline of lifespan will ultimately accomplish what the discipline of the Church cannot. The members of these orders are getting old, and the orders themselves are not getting new recruits. (What young woman would want to dedicate her life to THAT?) So, eventually they will be private leftist foundations WITHOUT putative nuns at the head.
That’s where all of this is headed.

When I receive solicitations to donate to religious orders or groups or funds, sad to say, I feel obliged to make very sure they are faithful to the Church in every way. Sometimes it is impossible to find out. A person has to be very careful nowadays about that and, unfortunately, will have to continue to be very careful in the future. These groups won’t change their names or pretensions when all the nuns are gone.

Under a 1988 Vatican ruling, “abortion” is defined as any method used to terminate a pregnancy from the moment of conception. Abortion thus understood is always illicit, according to the official discipline of the Catholic church, and can trigger excommunication for the parties involved.
The church’s condemnation of abortion includes not only interventions to remove a fetus before birth, but the use of all abortifacients, including intrauterine devices and certain types of birth control pills that prevent implantation or stimulate uterine contractions to reject a fertilized egg. It also encompasses drugs such as RU486, called the abortion pill, which provokes miscarriages by blocking progesterone in the first weeks of pregnancy.
This expansive standard is expressed in a May 23, 1988, ruling from the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts, the Vatican office charged with authoritative interpretations of canon law. The council was responding to a dubium, or request for clarification, from a bishop on canon 1398, which stipulates excommunication as the penalty for abortion.
The ban on abortion, in the sense of the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, is absolute.
Also if that is true then could it not be argued that any Priest who supports Birth Control (as they are an abortificient) could they be excommunicated too?
Certainly!! In fact, you could make the case for excommunication Latae Sententae (by their own act.)

What is going on in the convents? It seems every leftist radical I read about is coming out of a convent. I always thought nuns and monks as the highest in orthodoxy, but it seems they believe in some truly bizarre stuff.
