Bought some peaches from a local orchard and made pies! Mine contain both nutmeg and cinnamon.

In that movie, “Malcolm X” and before he became that but he was a prisoner, they have a scene where nutmeg is used as a drug, they smoke it or something. I forget.snorting? Anyway, the web indeed has many references to this.

I’ve seen the peach pie post just before going to bed. Made me hungry. Wanted some peach pie as well!

My husband is Greek. And in some of the foods I make I use Nutmeg like in
Pastisio

Nice looking pies! Mama used to make peach pies, but she never made the cross-weaving on top. Hers just had the regular solid pie crusts on top, with the usual fork tine piercings. I understand it’s quite tricky to get the cross-weaving nice and straight like that.

Here’s a little (unfortunate) American history trivia concerning pies:

Back in the days of complete ignorance and superstition, during the Salem Witch trials, a woman accused of being a witch was instructed by the court to go home and make a cherry pie, and bring it into court with her afterwards.

Some of those women were very skilled at pie-making, and they brought into court perfect cherry pies, with the cross-weaving on top absolutely perfect. They were found guilty of being witches because, according to the judges, NO ordinary woman could make a cherry pie that perfectly. Perfect cherry pies, in those days, were very hard to get just right.

The message to the other accused “witches” – HIDE YOUR TALENT!

I will try it this weekend.

I don’t have cloves in my pantry. I may substitute with smoked paprika which I do have.

I like to purchase the nutmeg whole and grate is as I need. It smells very nice.
Yes, that was what my mom always did, when I was growing up in London back in the twentieth century. Britain is one of the countries where nutmeg is in common use.

I’ve probably used it in savory cooking if it’s already part of a spice blend or mixture.

Normally I’ll use it in baking, especially when it comes to making things like pumpkin pie or other pumpkin-related dessert items.

From my familiarity with it, I think that it’s also normally used in other spice cake recipes and with cinnamon, too.

It does have a nice flavor to it. 🙂

I made this recipe for my Sunday night dinner. It came out better than I had expected and will definitely prepare it again. The spices permeated the salmon and weren’t just a flavor topping. Since I didn’t have coriander I substituted crushed cardamom seeds per an online recommendation. Also I used white pepper instead of black just out of personal preference. This was the finished plate. Thanks for the recipe. I wouldn’t have thought to use nutmeg along with the other spices on salmon.
