I think of 300,000,000 citizens of the USA, I would guess 90% have no clue. By the time they do get a clue, there is every chance it will be too late to do any good.
What is the good, though? Following the Catechism which exhorts the faithful to welcome immigrants and allow the free exercise of religion? Or don’t follow the Catechism and seek instead to ban Muslims from immigration and from the free exercise of their religion?

The Catechism is a reflection of what the Church/Christ teaches. No country is called to have uncontrolled immigration.

Like I stated before: most people do not have a clue.

Please forgive my ignorance.

It is illicit to throw away an object that has been blessed, rather it must be destroyed.

Why does this not apply to consecrated ground?

Thanks for the explanation

So, what you’re saying is analogues to saying that they can use the public washroom, but the “white’s only” one is for white’s only? Yes, that comparison was deliberate. It doesn’t seem fair to say that they are barred from the highest offices in the land by virtue of their birth, but can be say the Chief Justice of SCOTUS. It seems to be the last holdover from America’s isolationist days.
Frankly, I doubt we will ever agree regarding this requirement in the Federal Constitution pertaining to these two highly influential offices. All I can certainly do is present the particular reasons that this requirement exists, which you may state, once again, is an outmoded notion and not equitable in our modern world. Thus,

Particular opinions of this requirement:
That provision in the constitution which requires that the president shall be a native-born citizen (unless he were a citizen of the United States when the constitution was adopted,) is a happy means of security against foreign influence, which, wherever it is capable of being exerted, is to be dreaded more than the plague. The admission of foreigners into our councils, consequently, cannot be too much guarded against; their total exclusion from a station to which foreign nations have been accustomed to, attach ideas of sovereign power, sacredness of character, and hereditary right, is a measure of the most consummate policy and wisdom. …The title of king, prince, emperor, or czar, without the smallest addition to his powers, would have rendered him a member of the fraternity of crowned heads: their common cause has more than once threatened the desolation of Europe. To have added a member to this sacred family in America, would have invited and perpetuated among us all the evils of Pandora’s Box.
-St. George Tucker
Code:
Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest, in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter, without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite nation, of privileges denied to others, which is apt doubly to injure the nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained; and by exciting jealousy, ill- will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld.
Code:
And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens, (who devote themselves to the favorite nation,) facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearance of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation.
-George Washington

religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/23/new-york-catholic-church-rejects-mosque-plan/

A Staten Island Roman Catholic Church’s board whose members include Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan backed out of a plan to sell a vacant convent to a Muslim organization on Thursday.

–ha ha. it’s about time we stop pretending absolute religious freedom is a good thing.
Three cheers for Catholic Church and archbishop.

Here is a quote from a well known Muslim businessman,in my area.

We,the Muslims, can buy and convert your Churches into Mosques, but you will never do likewise with our Mosques.

Enough Said.Full Stop

Braveheart, my friend

I can not know the details of this complicated real estate transaction without being able to review the documents carefully. Even if I could, there would be so much information I would not have to tell the whole story.
Your Muslim businessman can say whatever he likes.
Don’t be easy prey for those who use scare tactics to intimidate others into believing they have some kind of powers that one is left helpless and in their control.
I am not denying that his statement could be very possible. Nor am I denying it is probable.
It just sounds like bar talk to me.
Yes, I know alcohol is not allowed per Islam. Just using a phrase that most people understand even if their beliefs are against such an idea.

So pretty much the same “foreign people are scary and all of them are out to destroy America from the inside therefore we shouldn’t allow them to get into positions of power because they’re all terrorists” opinion.

We’re talking past each other, so it’s probably time to drop this. I’m sorry that I’ve dragged this thread off topic.

Frankly, the whole issue was not even an issue from the very beginning. The requirements to be the President of the United States and Vice-President are certainly not all that different from many other nation-states throughout the world:

Obviously, there are some exceptions, such as Canada.

Canada doesn’t actually have a president 😉

To be fair, I would say the same thing to every country (not just the US). Although, the US is quite a special case given that it has only been around for a couple hundred years (as opposed to a thousand) and is not culturally homogeneous (being founded by immigrants after all).

Quite true.

Yes.
Or rather on average they probably disapprove of terrorism “in principle” but can understand how the injustice of Zionism, US foreign policy drives fellow Muslims to it. They certainly won’t do anything to stop it.

A nice little piece of political correctness (and historical falsity, “first place” goes to the Jews) which doesn’t belong in a dogmatic document. I hope it will be purged from future editions.

Pray God that never happens here.
AMEN

If so, one can be certain there will still be other required beliefs for Cafeteria Catholics to ridicule in public.

Ah it brings warmth to my heart to see my fellow Catholics engaged in good ol’ fashioned Islamophobia.

No, all muslims are not terrorists.

However, if you don’t play by their rules, you can be killed. That happened to Theo van Gogh, who made a film they didn’t like.

The new constitution for Iraq began with the following statement:

“Islam is the established religion of Iraq.
The law of Islam comes before all other laws.”

That is NOT religious freedom, my friends.
They do build a mosque on a site of conquest.

Why aren’t the “moderate” moslems speaking out?
Why do they still participate in animal sacrifices on a regular basis?
Why do they collect in cold climates and then complain about the weather? (Iceland, Michigan, etc.)
Why do they build mosques that look like the shifting sands of the middle East? (London)

I just came across this thread a few minutes ago.
It reminded me of an opinion piece in the Ottawa Citizen by Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah:
Mischief in Manhattan
The sub-head reads: “We Muslims know the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation.”
The Koran commands Muslims to, “Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book” – i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of “fitna”
I realize that it does not relate directly to the NY Catholic Church’s decision, but I thought it may be of interest to some of you involved in this thread.

Reg.
