Thank you for posting this! It is so important that people understand the truth about the efforts that have been made and are still being made by the Church and Pope Benedict to provide justice for victims.

.

The NY Times reporting inaccurately in order to foment prejudice? Who would have thought it.

I think the media is disgusting. I don’t even see why people listen to the news at all, most of it is lies or at least, very twisted truth.

What I don’t quite understand, is why they are slandering the Pope. Why now? It is a very organized campaign against him. Scary really.
Holy Week.

Ever wonder why the Discovery Channel, et al. always trot out the same tired old “Hey did you know that the Bible is a pack of lies and Christianity is phony?” television specials the same time every year? Same reason. This year they had some ‘scholars’ say that there never was a Barabbas and that early Christians (whom these ‘scholars’ appear to have not realized were almost all Jews) made it up as part of their deliberate campaign of anti-Semitism and pro-Roman apologism (you know, the same Romans who were having the early Christians raped in the arena and lit on fire).

There are a lot of devout atheists… people who literally despise Christianity (cough Ted Turner cough)… who are very powerful in media. They will tell any lie to try to destroy the faith of even one Christian soul.

Well, to heck with them. I’m not going to let them destroy my Holy week. And I love our Pope. He is full of integrity and honesty. I guess I’ll just wait until after Holy Week to watch the news, not that I watch it very much anyway.

Go to Thursday, Friday and vigil Mass on Sat when the new reverts come in and you will be energized for your Catholic faith. I call them reverts 'cause 10 yrs ago I “reverted fron Lutheran”. I beleive some people eventually gt it.

On the Vortex Real Catholic TV channel one year ago it was predicted that the Obama camp was out to destroy the Catholic church. Please watch the above youtube. It said more than I can write.
Now, one year later the NY Times is making sure to put the church on the defense with lies. The general public will hear all the accusations and won’t bother to find out if the lies are true. Then when election time rolls around the church will not have any credibility with it’s recommendations on how to vote on same sex marriage, embryonic stem cell research, mercy killing, and birth control. If the church says not to vote for candidates who are pre-abortion, the public will tell them to clean their own house and stop interferring with politics.

Really. It’s as if the NY Times doesn’t even care about the facts.

Shocker!
Here are the facts:
*
There are 86 pages of documents* about the Milwaukee case photocopied and published by the New York Times:

here:

documents.nytimes.com/reverend-lawrence-c-murphy-abuse-case

On the right is listed “Notes from Milwaukee Diocese investigation of Fr. Murphy, Nov. 10, 1997” which begins on page 47.

There are three photocopied pages of** clearly printed notes,** numbered paged 2, 3, and 4. At the head of each page is printed:

“10-31-97 Brundage, Rev. Thomas”

These neatly printed notes include the following, quote: (emphasis and parentheses mine)

“Milwaukee may not try the case, but rather competancy (sic) rests with the tribunal where the defendant has a domicile. that means DOS! (Diocese of Superior, under Bishop Sklba).

However, this is a pleasant and acceptable resolution to a potentially serious inconvenience for our personnel.
*
Milwaukee will dissolve its tribunal dealing with this case and at my request (documents) will reconstitute in order to operative under the jurisdiction of the bishop of Superior.”*

What a relief! Milwaukee can pass the buck to Superior and avoid a “serious inconvenience for our personnel”–apparently uppermost in Brundage’s mind.

Fr. Brundage is otherwise mentioned only in notes from an archdiocese meeting dated Feb. 24, 1997, as possibly going to Washington to ask the Papal Nuncio to request a waiver because the statue of limitations having run out according to prior canon law. After this, he is out of the picture, because Milwaukee passed the case to Superior.

All of the subsequent documents involved Milwaukee trying to get Rome to take the case, Bishop Sklba of Superior, who was now handling the case, refusing the minimal punishment of ‘pastoral measures’ for Fr. Murphy, stating the terrible anger in the deaf community, Fr. Murphy’s death and burial as a priest, and Bertone’s closure of the case and relie*f that scandal had been avoided.
*
Just read the documents, which were obtained by lawyers representing 5 of the deaf men who brought four lawsuits against the archdiocese of Milwaukee. One was finally settled–for two thousand dollars.

I doubt that the ‘anchoress’ bothered to read the 86 pages of documents.

…or the first New York Times article based on the documents,

nytimes.com/2010/03/25/world/europe/25vatican.html?pagewanted=1

…or the second New York Times article based on an in-depth interview with one of the deaf men, who described the many attempts of the deaf boys and men to get someone, anyone, priest, police, or local government to listen to them.

No, here is the fact:

The guy who wrote the article for the Catholic Anchor was Fr. Thomas Brundage himself. Read TFA next time.

I’m sorry, but you can’t just ignore the guy who is apparently the “source” of the story who says that they got the facts wrong. Fr. Brundage presided over the whole case and has first hand experience. He doesn’t need to read the documents because he was there. He knows exactly what happened and he’s set the record straight (I guess we could call it an inconvenient truth for the NYT) I would trust him over the NYT.

No, he wasn’t there in Rome during the last conversations with Bertone. Fliss, the bishop from Milwaukee, and Sklba, the bishop and head of the diocese in Superior were there. He never wrote to Ratzinger , or to the Prefect, trying to get Rome’s attention on the case, or received the final letter from Bertone, expressing his relief that there was no scandal. Brundage was there, all right–in the three pages of notes he’s trying to deny–with his name clearly hand-written on the top of each page.

Anode, your beginning to sound a bit desperate and clutching at any kind of straw you can grab. What’s your motivation?

Better yet, anode…why are you here? Why don’t you work for the NY Times?

*I’m a devout Catholic, and always will be…I will always defend our faith. This is Christ’s Church, and always will be…the sins of men within the clergy, won’t taint my love for the Church, for we are all sinners…BUT. That said, I don’t know what to believe anymore. So much abuse was done to children for decades, with no one in the Church to stop it. Now, there are news articles that brought it to light, and then there’s those who say some of what was written was a lie…then the mainstream says the Church is lying.

I just am saddened to read any of this, frankly…but, hopefully, we’re going to be on a road to recovery…I just don’t know who to believe in these stories anymore. In reading through this article, so I should believe every word of this judge? I mean…why was the mainstream media able to bring this to everyone’s attention, and not the Church, Herself? I think that is what I have been wrestling with, in addition to the unfathomable abuses. That the Catholic Church, in all these years, has never said…’‘it’s been brought to our attention that…’’ Not until the scandals broke in the mainstream media, were we made aware of these abuses and how widespread they were. So, it’s not that I don’t believe what I’m reading here, but it’s hard to say at this point…who is telling the **complete **truth, when so many lies and cover ups were told.

That’s a reality that the Church needs to get a grip on, frankly. That yes, I’m a faithful Catholic, and yes, I separate my faith and what Christ taught, from the sins of men within the walls of the Church. But, the Church officials can’t expect us to read article after article of blatant abuse and cover ups that went on for years, and just throw that aside because it’s the mainstream media reporting it. I’m NOT a fan of NY Times whatsoever…they are not my source for news. But, they were not the only ones who broke these stories, and just because I’m Catholic doesn’t mean I am going to not listen to secular news on this subject. Just my two cents. *

I would also like to see Pope Benedict come out and address the allegations that the mainstream is claiming–HIMSELF. I don’t really want to hear a Bishop’s/Cardinal’s/ArchBishop’s/Judge’s etc… point of view. Because that’s all they can say, their point of view. Not that their points of view don’t matter, but the only one that can bring clarity and closure to these allegations, is Pope Benedict himself. I pray he does address this in one of his upcoming speeches. Bishops who have worked with him…Cardinals who have worked with him…they are not going to know what really happened, back 30 years ago, the claims against Pope Benedict. Only Pope Benedict and God know the truth, and I am hoping that he addresses the situation, himself, soon…so HIS words can be in print, and not the opinions of others, secular or Catholic. Until that happens, all we are reading is opinion about the Pope, from a variety of sources, maybe reliable, maybe not. I think that the Pope addressing the attacks against him, will serve the Church well, and put an end to public scrutinty and suspicion.
