Well, Obama is certainly ready to cut those benefits, so it’s a good question. He walked out ‘abruptly’ because the Republicans wouldn’t agree to his big deal that includes cutting of those benefits. 🤷

Then, he made a veiled threat by saying that there may not be enough money to pay Social Security payments.

I can see where Obama is a real friend of the poor, sick, etc. 😛
I edited my post before I saw this. Explaining shared sacrifice. It’s also called compromise.

jomoco, no one needs to wonder WWJD. He gives us a really good hint in Matt 25:35-46. And then I think somewhere he said something about the rich and a camel too. 😉 Peace
Jesus worked as a carpenter. He built houses and furniture.

Today, he would drive a pick-up truck.

What would Jesus do? He would give of His own money.

Not demand that the Roman increase taxes on other people.

And when his followers complained, HE, PERSONALLY, paid the tax by performing a miracle … Jesus, personally, did not demand His followers take it out of their assets (if they had any).

We’re all adults here is let’s drop the euphemisms. By shared sacrifice you mean raising taxes on , the so-called rich. . When you talk about revenue increases your likewise talking about raising taxes on the so-called rich., I’m always amused about how willing people are to raise taxes, on somebody else that is

Can you, my friend, give me one time in our entire history as a free nation, prior to neocon george junior, that we lowered, or even failed to raise taxes during an active shooting war?

Are you a neocon, a hypocritical neocon, unwilling to pay for your own war/bar-tab?

Does your patriotism stop at your wallet, my friend?

You didn’t answer my very specific question: what percent of GDP is taken by military spending?

The answer is 4.4%

Which is one of the lowest percentages in our history.

Which means that not only are we fighting the war on the cheap, but that war spending is in the area of current government tax revenues. THERE IS NO REASON TO RAISE TAXES, because spending on military stuff is LOW, not high.

Go here and read the chart:

airforce-magazine.com/MagazineArchive/Magazine%20Documents/2011/April%202011/0411chart.pdf

What it shows is the military spending as percent of GDP since 1950 which was the year the Korean War started. We are low in military spending; it should be much higher. The only time it hit rock bottom was when Bill Clinton was president and that led to the attacks on 9/11. You can draw the conclusion that lack of military readiness was the reason for the attack … and you can draw the conclusion that our then demobilization of the military … we cut more than 1/3 of our forces … created the idea in the heads of our enemies that we would be an easy target … and they were right.

Or you might prefer to disconnect the amount of money spent on the military from whether or not our enemies perceive low military spending as a sign of weakness.

If you want to create jobs, then cut taxes. That [and some rollback of regulations that handicap business] will allow the economy to expand.

The problem with the government deficit and the debt is that the spending is on non-military stuff … and Obama wants to increase the non-military spending dramatically.

The challenge to CMatt25 (and people advocating raised taxes) is to be the first one to pay additional taxes to Uncle Sam. This includes not taking any deductions when you do your taxes. I am sure the IRS will be happy to take the additional funds.

back when I used to have a weekly radio show I had a standing offer to people whowere upset about the so-called Bush tax cuts. . I offered to do for free the tax returns of anybody that would allow me to prepare them using the rates in effect before the Bush tax cuts were instituted. . I never had any takers

🤷 They can’t be asked to share in the sacrifice by cutting their Medicaid, can they? They are not entitled to a free pass in how to solve the debt just because they are wealthy.

Simple economics. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Medicaid is welfare. And while most of the people on it are hurting badly, there IS a lot of fraud and the states refuse to audit the fraud. Probably because it is organized by people who make political contributions.

Medicare is a medical plan for people (basically) who are eligible for Social Security.

And Medicare is paid for, or is supposed to be paid for, by deductions from our paychecks.

I never wanted to be part of that system, but the Federal Government and many states will not allow the people to participate in the Indiana Plan.

PLEASE read up:

health–savings–accounts.com/plans-in.htm

In addition, many states will not allow very small businesses to purchase low-cost insurance unless they have two or more employees. And that is a ridiculous restriction. Nevertheless, that is your government at work.

Obamacare already cut it. It included massive cuts to medicare and medicaid

So are you filing you taxes using pre bush tax cuts rate? Or do when you talk about shared sacrifice do mean others sacrifice while you share?

Matt, what’s the use?!
Any opposition on this board is not welcome.
Their #1 rule is scuttle them, and use any spin we can come up with, right or wrong.
The principles or policies of any others are not allowed.
We are no longer considering democracy.
Listen,no fodda and they will starve to death.

Let me see, Jesus taught us to render unto caesar that which is caesar’s, and to render unto God, that which is God’s.

So, how do you neocons rationalise rendering to neither caesar, in terms of money, or God in terms of compassion for the poor?

He also called us to be good stewards…explain to me how raising taxes / debt ceiling…without an audit of the Fed - and a balanced budget…is good economic stewardship, please

As I suggested earlier, if you honestly believe this, then is your check in the mail to the IRS?

It seems quite obvious to me, that anyone who has even a slight inkling of real American history, can clean the floor, then wax it, with any pinko commie sycophant’s attempts to rewrite history to suit their sick psychosis’ as expressed in the form of nancy pelois, Barrack obama and george soros. Where did the idea of ending a a depression by raising taxes orginate my friends? Think back, you can do it, just 2 short years ago, a pinko commie idea, unprecedented in our history as a nation.

I recommend you drop the name calling. The moderators aren’t big fans of people hurling epithets around.

Who here is advocating not rendering unto Caesar? Nobody here has even hinted at refusal to pay taxes. If the law says I’m supposed to pay 25% of my income, I pay it. So does everyone else here. Everyone here that pays their taxes are rending unto Casar that which is Caesar’s.

And who here is not rendering unto God? Do you know the charitable contributions each and every “neocon” makes? Are they refusing render unto God “in terms of compassion for the poor”? You can’t know, so you are wrong in claiming anyone here is failing to render unto God that which is God’s.

He said render unto caesar, that which is caesar’s. He put no fairness clause into his teachings, so His teaching could be ignored to fatten your own wallets.

Only neocons believe that Jesus taught us to benefit the wealthy, and let the poor fend for themselves.

Those poor helpless millionaires, in their teaming masses, yearning to have their heavy crosses lifted from their heavily burdened shoulders!

Oh the humanity of it!

jomoco:)

Hmmm Sorosbama?

Ok then. If that’s what “neocons” believe, who here is advocating kicking granny to the curb and letting poor children starve? I don’t think you’ll find more than a couple of “neocons” as you’ve defined them here on CAF.
