Regardless which man wins, and I don’t particulary care if that will be the Republicans, I know that our nation wil stay on the liberal road - the courts wil remain liberal as will our institutions of higher learning, including most of the Catholic ones, the media as well, and the entertainment business. Even when Reagan was president, the country was not derailed from staying on the liberal track. So we lefties ought not be dismayed if Romney becomes President. 🙂 👍,
Given that one of the basic tenets of leftism is abortion rights - do you give a thumbs up to that too? Or are you only happy about parts of the liberal/left road? The “liberal track” = “abortion rights track.” What is your faith, liberalism or Catholicism?

Des moines register has endorsed Romney. First time they have endorsed a republican since 1972. Everybody I heard said the register would endorse Obama

The Des Moines Register endorsement: Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision

Des Moines register editor, ‘Our deciding factor is listening to what our readers have said’

A newspaper endorsement that may matter
Winner of Des Moines Register’s endorsement has won Iowa in 5 of last 6 presidential elections
Romney’s appreciation in tweet

Just like Rasmussen which show this is a trend
Obama leads by 2% with independents, down from a 29% margin in September… Republicans as a group were more likely to say they were very enthusiastic about the election than Democrats were.… The candidate debates made 23 percent more likely to vote for Romney, and only 14 percent more likely to vote for Obama. But almost all the polling was done before the third debate between the presidential candidates. And 62 percent of poll respondents said the debates were not a factor
The earlier poll was conducted Sept. 13-18. The most recent poll was conducted between Oct. 18 and 23 among 1,015 likely voters by land-line and cellular phone. It was weighted to correct sampling biases from the sex of the respondent and the region of residence. It did not weight based on self-identified party affiliation. However, the September poll had proportionately more self-identified Democrats — 48 percent versus 42 percent Republican and 10 percent independent — than the October poll, 47 percent Democrat, 44 percent Republican and 10 percent independent. The customary range in elections is between a five-point Democratic advantage and a five-point Republican one.
Presidential race tied in Ohio newspaper poll

Apparantly the sample of independents is too small

From KNX:

A case of campaign vandalism is under investigation Friday in Alta Loma.

Someone keyed the word “Obama” into two cars and slashed seats in another outside a residence that had Mitt Romney campaign signs.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Rob Schmitt spoke to Ken Slown, owner of one of the keyed vehicles.

Slown actually supports President Obama!
From WISH TV

A viewer used Report !t to send our sister station WANE pictures of the sign in front of the South Broadway Church of Christ in Huntington on Friday.

One side of the sign read “Christ voted Democrat” and the other read “Romney hates women”.

Luke Jackson, the pastor of the church, said the statements on the sign were vandalism and that the authorities had been contacted.

“I had about eight missed calls from church members and people from the community,” Jackson said.

He said the sign must have been changed late Thursday night, but not by anyone associated with the church. The sign was still up Friday morning, but Jackson said an elder with the church came in and changed it.

Jackson said the person responsible used letters that were already on the marquee, and stole the remanding letters that were used Thursday.
More examples of high class maneuvers by Obama supporters. Chilling to think what they will do when Obama loses.

I’m not surprised.

You may be right simply because of changing demographics. Unless the GOP can grab a larger segment of the growing Hispanic and Asian populations, we (Republicans) may be headed for permanent minority status. This is not the America of the 1950’s.

Good response. I am opposed to abortion, very much so. I am a Catholic who, like any Catholic, even the conservatives, doesn’t accept the entire agenda of our respective sides (E.g., believe it or not, and I did find it hard to believe, there are some righttists who oppose the deaath penalty, one of the Right’s ne plus ultras). Similarly, I back the basic thrust of the liberal approach to dealing with how our country is to function, without signing on to every point of the agenda… 🙂

Well spoken. You simply don’t have the numbers that the Democrats have, and if that were to change, it’ll be a long time coming.

The Blaze:
Pro-Obama Ad Has Children Singing About an America Where ‘Sick People Just Die’ & ‘Oil Fills the Sea
The founders of the ad agency behind the iconic “Got Milk?” ad campaign and some of the other most well-known advertisements in the country have a new message: re-elect President Barack Obama, or your children will live in an America where “sick people just die” and “oil fills the sea.”
A two-minute black-and-white spot features a chorus of children — “the children of the future” — singing to their parents that “something happened to our country, and we’re kinda blaming you.”
A few other choice lyrics: “The Earth is cracked, Big Bird is sacked and the atmosphere is frying.”
See link for the video & complete lyrics.

I agree.

In addition one can be aligned to the left as a philosophical system of government. Posters around here when saying “left” are equating it specifically with the party and platform for US Democrats.

The “Left” and “Right” have larger meanings than this and neither, by definition, is related to questions of abortion, gay marriage, stem-cell research, capital punishment etc. . . .

Liberalism is a political philosophy not a political party.

Perhaps the GOP will move away from the white, middle America, and bible-belt evangelicals who have hijacked their parties constituency and focus.

One thing I am sure of. The GOP establishment is not going to allow itself to be “bred” out. THey will alter their message to keep their standing as one of the 2 party system.

Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9 poll: I-4 voters back Romney 51-45
It has been a fundamental rule of Florida politics for decades: Statewide campaigns are won and lost on the I-4 corridor.
Today that celebrated swing-voter swath stretching from Tampa Bay to Daytona Beach is poised to deliver Florida’s 29 electoral votes to Mitt Romney.
An exclusive Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9 poll of likely voters along the Interstate 4 corridor finds Romney leading Obama 51 percent to 45 percent, with 4 percent undecided.
“Romney has pretty much nailed down Florida,” said Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, which conducted the poll for the Times and its media partners. "Unless something dramatically changes — an October surprise, a major gaffe — Romney’s going to win Florida.’’

How are Evangelicals a bad thing to have in a political party? Is Planned Parenthood and the lobby for homosexual marriage in the democrat party better?

I certainly hope they don’t move away from efforts to reach out to minority and urban dwellers. As a social worker these are the people I tend to care a great deal about.

Caucasian suburbanites and rural dwellers, many of which I would call the “worried well”, already have a Party.

Evangelicals and PP are bad things to have as one’s base. But then again, Evangelicals aren’t of my ilk.

I’d rather hang out with an atheist than an Evangelical any day of the week.
