I like Macallan and Glenfiddich as well though I only drink it at a restaurant as I couldn’t afford a bottle.

I like fine Belgian Beers and fine canned seafood. I collect high-end reproductions of medieval arms and armour and you want to talk expensive. It’s all in spending judiciously. I am an unemployed social worker- but with some solid leads (fingers crossed) though I receive disability as I am legally blind and my wife is a professor. We are middle class.

I think Macallan may be a bit low brow for a Rockefeller though. 🙂
A bottle of The Macallan is about $50 at Virginia ABC Stores (cask strength about $10 more). I buy my hand-rolled cigars in bundles at a slight discount with free shipping from Cuban Paradise Cigar & Cafe. I have no other vices really.

I’m a semi-retired lawyer (just turned 56) and my wife is a government administrator (she will retire next year at 55). But I just put two daughters through college at and my eldest daughter is getting married in June 2013. So, I’ve had a few expenses to cover. Being honest, I consider my family upper middle class. I envy (in a good way) your wife’s occupation as a professor. That would have been my first choice, but I graduated from college during the Carter years. I went practical, so to speak, and went for my MBA and JD. If only I could have taught History as a professor …

The Charismatic Movement can be wild. It is faithful though. As long as she isn’t a “miracle chaser” like some in the movement. There are some miracle chasers around here.
No. My wife adheres strictly to the teachings of the Vatican. She attends a monthly healing Mass and a weekly prayer group. On the other hand, I attend multiple Opus Dei events monthly, daily Mass whenever possible, and weekly Latin Mass and Eucharistic Adoration.

This forum is for everyone. We should respect everyone. This might make this forum uncomfortable for some. There are areas of this forum to discuss Scotch or whatever. This is being reported.

Italian and Spanish tuna in olive oil? At about 6 to 8 dollars a tin? Yes, outstanding stuff.

My son got me P.O.'d to bits two years ago, when he and a friend opened a couple of tins of the good stuff with which to make Tuna Salad sandwiches - after I told him that there was Chicken of the Sea in the pantry. $24 worth of fine tuna gone when he could have used the cheap stuff - not that it’s bad, mind you, but…
I like Starkist tuna with Miracle Whip. Cheap, boring, but tasty.

La Herencia de Cuba in Ybor City makes a really good maduro torpedo on-premises for like $5.00. Pair it with a glass of Castillo Spiced Rum Coconut Mojito and you have a party, even if you alone.
I have to order my cigars by mail since I live in Virginia. CPC&C medium hand-rolled robustos are $5.89 a stick. Best cigars I’ve ever smoked. And there’s a rumor out there that I may have had a Cuban cigar or two in my lifetime. I would like to sample the drink you mentioned.

Why are you telling everyone your age here? Do you have some motives? Do you think we are really concerned about this?

We have de-railed the thread a bit. My apologies, BroomWagon.

Posters on National Catholic Register in the weeks before the banquet made some nasty accusations against his Eminence.
Remember some of the terms Mahoney was called? WOW!

I may have a disagreement with a Cardinal, and I do, but it would be a cold day in Hell before I insult a Cardinal.

My age offends you? Its just a fact of life. Rich mentioned he was 70 years old, so that aids me in examining factors that might affect his postings in the CA Forum. I certainly have no ‘motive’ for doing so. You can judge the age of most folks here based on their commentary, life situations, etc.

That would inexcusable but I have not seen any at ncregister. Have you seen the nasty names Michael Sean Winters has called George Weigel in his latest post at NCR? I can not imagine national Catholic register allowing such a post to be posted

Perhaps I should visit some other Catholic websites like those described to see what commentators are saying. This is the first time I’ve heard someone going after George Weigel.

Tampa Dave:
I drink The Macallan Scotch and I smoke hand-rolled cigars made by Cuban Paradise Cigar & Cafe in Madeira Beach, Florida.
I was never one for Scotch; Bourbon was my thing, Gin nowadays. I used to smoke ordinary cigars years ago; my kids loved me blowing smoke rings as a tugboat and a railway locomotive. My wife eventually put the kibbosh on my smoking in the house; she said that it made her house smell like a cheap saloon being aired out of a Sunday morning! 😃

It can certainly be reported for being off-topic, but I don’t see any issues with discussing Scotch, cigars, etc. There is nothing immoral about having a cigar and a good, single-malt Scotch. I’m equally not offended by someone who says they don’t believe in drinking, nor a vegan poster. I can have my steak, Scotch and cigar, and they can have their veggies and soda. 🤷

Other people’s personal habits shouldn’t make us uncomfortable unless they are sinful/immoral.

She is a Pharmacologist so really does mainly research. She only teaches when she has to. Her pay is OK now but she is 38. It takes a long time to get an OK salary in science.

Part of me wishes I would have gotten a Ph.D. in Social Work as I am a very conceptual person. Hard to say.

Mark McGwire is a cheater. There, I did it.

Ann Coulter is the most entertaining political personality I’ve ever seen on TV.
Too snarky for my tastes.
One of the reasons I avoid conservative talk radio is my desire to not get worked up. They are usually preaching to the choir (in my case), so mere mention of the latest liberal outrages generally gets me irritated, if not outright angry.
👍 Too much advertising too.
So, I listen to EWTN Radio (Son Rise Morning Show, Dr. Ray. Women of Grace, World Over Live, etc.) and focus on Catholic thoughts. Sounds goofy, eh?
I do too! I like Catholic Answers Live. I do listen to NPR in the morning and in the evening at home.

Ordinary supermarket canned tuna is fine for tuna salad, but imported tuna is the stuff of Salad Nicoise and such. It’s not expensive for no reason. You don’t screw it up with creamy dressings.

Tampa Dave, Miracle Whip? Miracle Whip? The cigar smoke has deadened your taste buds. 😃
