josephdavid;6956371 Timothy McVeigh killed in the name of Christianity. Catholic Bishops hid and protected child molesters. Certainly then you must believe Christianity is all bad and are terrorists yes? said:
Well, Timothy McVeigh was raised as a Democrat. His mother just walked out and abandoned the family when he was still very young; he was only 11-years old. He never really got over that.

With respect to the second statement. Then have you lived in any Muslim countries lately? Tried to convert any Muslims to Christianity?

Interesting quotes from the Quran about how they should behave regarding others.
How about some quotes about how Christians should behave toward ‘others’?

Love thy neighbor as thyself
Love him that persecutes you
How many times should we forgive? Seven times Seventy, or basically, infinately.

This doesn’t mean we turn a blind eye to threats, but also that we don’t judge
unfairly, either. Either they have the right or not. If you agree they do, then
deal with it. Either that or go round up some money of your own and buy the
land and build your own worship center there. It’s your right, too, after all.

If it had been Baptists or Catholics or Lutherans who were behind 9/11, would you
feel the same about a church of their choosing going up here? Why or why not?
Simple Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans did not blow up The Towers where 3,000 people died.\ Are you a NYer? I think NYERS are the ones who can say no to this mosque. I am a NYER I knew people whio died in the towers, my very best friend lost her son. My sons, son in law and My Husband where some of the first responders and they worked for weeks down there. My husband has been in the Hospital 3 times since then and had to retire because of his illness (Directly related to working at ground zero). I and other NYERS DO NOT WANT IT BUILT and quite frankly anyone who does not live in NY their opinions are unimportant! Building that mosque is a slap in the face to all who died there nothing more nothing less. This has absolutely nothing to do with the freedom of religion

I think it has no bearing. They should be allowed to have a Mosque there if they so choose so. Also it is a local matter in my opinin and local community (the city of New York) expressed their support

So then what is the problem? If religion is not an issue then why are people upset with people expressing their right to practice their faith?
Being allowed to build a mega -mosque right in that location is pretty insensitive; calling it the Cordoba Mosque.

Pretty insensitive.

No The City of New York did not lend support that is pure propoganda, Bloomberg was for it and he has been blasted, New York does not want this.

Park 51… the twitter account for the mosque, just tweeted this:

if Haaretz likes publishing fables, perhaps they could go back to the Yiddish ones with parables

Nothing like bashing Jews to build bridges…

Perhaps the Kelo Decision could be used to acquire the “Park 51” site and transfer it over to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for the site of their new church to replace the church destroyed on 9/11.

Anyway, found this satellite / aerial photo of the site and it’s close location to the crater of the WTC.

Interesting find by the way, looks like smoke.

Nobody is upset with people trying to practice their faith. People are objecting to the location of this Mosque-71% of Americans at last count… As far as it being a local matter then why are you and the President of the United States so intent on expressing your view of it?

Excerpt:

On 18 May, 2010, the Arabic-language online daily Elaph posted an article by an Arab Muslim, in which he decried “The Cordoba Mosque” building project being planned for construction in the vicinity of Ground Zero, in New York City.

Set forth below are excerpts from his article, and from two other articles on this same subject. My analysis and comments will follow.

“The project by Muslims to build a mosque in the United States, close to the place where the 9/11 attack took place, is causing quite a stir. It is worth noting that the name chosen for the mosque is confrontational and provocative. The first Cordoba mosque was built in that Spanish city in the aftermath of the Muslimconquest of Christian Spain. This Islamic “Conquista” was followed by the killings of men, and the enslavement of women, many of whom were carried away to the Arab lands to work as servants and concubines for their Muslim masters. For both Arabs and Muslims, the history of their conquests remains as a symbol of their past glory, and power. They have no thoughts of remorse or shame, when they recall those heinous crimes that accompanied the colonization of Spain!

“Nowadays, some Muslims in America dream of repeating that ugly history of Islamic imperialism. In fact, I submit that the very choice of “Cordoba” as the name for the projected mosque was not an innocent one. On the contrary, it indicated a longing for the resumption of Islamic futuhat (conquests) throughout the world.

“Actually, New York City has already several Sunni and Shi’ite mosques. It is a known fact that the Irhabi ideology has infiltrated many of the Sunni centers; while some Shi’ite mosques have allowed Iranian Intelligence services to operate freely within them.

The appropriate question is "why is the Islamic center insensitive?"

The answer is: because it is a Muslim establishment, and Muslims attacked us.

Therefore, anyone who claims that the Islamic center is insensitive is claiming that the builders of the center are affiliated with the terrorists solely by virtue of their being Muslim. This shows that the critics are willing to blame Islam for the terrorist attacks, despite the fact that the motives were primarily political and that the rest of the mainstream Muslim world condemned the attacks. In ignoring these realities, critics demonstrate ignorance at best, and prejudice at worst.

Another “people that disagree with me are bigots” post

I don’t think this has anything to do with politics. It concerns opposing bigotry. There is absolutely no reason to oppose a mosque being built two blocks from Ground Zero other than an unreasoning hatred of Muslims.
Oh, so I’m an anti-Muslim bigot? According to your yardstick, I’m guilty as charged! 😃

I’m also an anti-Satanist bigot, an anti-KKK bigot, an anti-Buddhist bigot, and even – gulp! – an anti-Protestant bigot. Yes, I unashamedly profess a belief that Christianity, specifically Roman Catholicism, is inherently superior to all other forms of religious faith. In fact, I think the world would be better off if everyone converted to Catholicism immediately. Yup.

When will I ever learn that tolerance is not enough? It is not enough to allow people to practice their faith unpersecuted. Acceptance is what is needed. And I should most certainly stop pestering people to convert. That is so oppressive and ignorant of me. Why can’t I just wizen up and realize that all religions are equally good and truthful?

Test your links; some don’t work.

This one does, however:

I just took the time to read this. This is tricky. Legally, freedom of religion does protect the Muslim’s right to build a mosque on property they own, unless there is a zoning restriction. Prudence also dictates that one be careful not to do something that will cause a violent reaction on the part of some lose canons. There are people out there who will consider doing something violent to this mosque and its occupants. As Catholics, we must be concerned about the welfare of all people. I believe the Muslim leadership must really stand back and reconsider this option.

I did find something interesting in the article. I didn’t know that Jesus had been invited to speak on this isssue.

"I think he’s right — I mean you know we’re a country that in my view stands for freedom of religion and respect for others," Christ said after the Florida meeting with Obama and other officials.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

Why does living in “Ny” make someone neither ignorant nor “preducide”?

Why don’t you just agree that the center is fine and remove all allegations if insensitivity?

There are two opinions on the matter, are there not? One side holds the Islamic center is insensitive, and the other contends it is sensitive.

I hold that the center is sensitive, therefore people who disagree must fall into the “insensitive” camp.

I have then proposed that the “insensitive” camp has formed this conclusion due to the following though process:
Muslims attacked us on 9/11.
Muslims want to build a mosque near the site of this attack.
It is insensitive for Muslims to attack us and then subsequently build a mosque near the site.

I have then pointed out that this line of reasoning wrongly associates the radical Islam taught by terrorists and the moderate Islam practiced by the vast majority of Muslims. I have lastly pointed out that one could only make this mistake if one was ignorant or prejudiced.

I can’t spell it out any clearer, so why not rebut me instead of merely gripe because you don’t like my conclusions?

Consider the total speech act in the total speech situation.
Let’s learn something about the Mohammadans, shall we?

Let’s start with what a mosque is not, since you all are so apt to confuse it with a church or a synagogue: A mosque isn’t a church. Its not a community hall. Its not a rec center. It doesn’t even sell falafels, … sorry to disappoint.

Its not simply a religious building–that’s part of the reason why all of these idiotic ejaculations to the effect of: “Defend religious freedom!” are not in season.

A mosque–from the architectural ideal that shapes its spire and the crescent it thrusts into the skyline, as near as its builder can place it to the actual moon, to the sermons the cleric preaches inside–are a testament to the victory of Islam. This victory of Islam takes place at the exclusion of all other beliefs, and internal dissidents are ejected from the community.
Its aim is to make the world and the ‘Dar al Islam’ synonymous, and to shrink the ‘Dar al Harb’–the non-Muslim world–into oblivion. Do you know what the ‘Dar al Harb’ means in Arabic? The realm of war. Not that because the high-minded Muslims believe that we are warlike barbarians… but because pious Muslims are free to make war on us without repercussions. ‘War’ is essentially ‘free game’. Muslim women are strictly forbidden to marry non-Muslims in classical Shari’a, but Muslim men can marry non-Muslims with impunity. Not only do they want to take our women, literally–yes, they mean what they say–, they want to take our churches, plaster over our saints and angels, and shred the voluminous legal tracts detailing the trials initiated in defense of their ‘religious rights’ housed at the ACLU’s headquarters to use as toilet paper.

That is why their mosque is insensitive. The September 11th attack opened a book in history. The municipal authorities of NYC allowing Muslims to build a mosque within sneezing distance of those ruins is the beginning of a fitting conclusion. Not a necessary one, mind you, but one that the American people have willed collectively.

Seriously do you have any idea what you are talking about.?
I was talking about the issues surrounding the construction of an Islamic center near ground zero, but you seem to want to talk about the inherent superiority of residents of New York.
