A great start would be: respecting people, be they misguided or not, as intelligent beings with God-given free will. The talking-down and the urge to cram things down people’s throats need to stop - particularly the urge to use religion as the tool to do it.
What did the GOP cram down anyone’s throat?

Barack Obama simply connects with a majority of American voters better than the Republicans do for one very big reason. This country is morally bankrupt.
Notice that not many political pundits are saying that the Democrats have moved too far left and are now out of touch with the average American voter.

Because you aren’t. Women and minorities are the ones that Dems treated like an asset to acquire, with their war on women campaign and playing the race card.
The Dems made it so that I could not longer identify with or feel comfortable on the right side of the political spectrum, despite my pro-life views? I don’t think so.

If that means abounding our core beliefs on Abortion and racial preferences no thanks. The republicans picked up sets in the house, in the state legislatures, in the governorships and lost the popular vote by a small percentage. There is no need to panic.
I agree.

There is no point of winning, if you have sold your soul to intrinsic evil to do it. What do you “win” there? We need to convert souls, not sell our own souls out.

I did not join their party… i am an Independent. I voted for their Social Justice issues as well as their economic and forgien policy views.

God bless
But you get all of their positions including one’s that involve unfettered support for direct abortion.

Should we oppose rules that are contrary to our beliefs? If we do so, based specifically on our beliefs, is that using religion to cram things down people’s throats?

Is the HHS mandate being crammed down our throats?

I’ll tell you exactly why I voted for Obama, and I suspect a lot of Catholics felt similarly. Romney/Ryan represented a thoroughly unChristian and harmful economic philosophy that would further decimate the middle class and take us futher down the road to a corporate plutocracy. Ryan was an admited devotee of the atheist Ayn Rand. Yes Romeny/Ryan were on the right side on paper on abortion and traditional marriage, but I and many others have learned not to trust the GOP on those issues. A GOP president never accomplishes anything for life or the traditional family, but always accomplishes their econimic objectives: witness Reagan, and Bushs I and II. Romney in particular has made two 180 degree turns on the abortion issue in his career. He could not be trusted on any issue, including abortion. The GOP establishment is about one thing and one thing only: MONEY.
Well I disagree with that entirely, but we’ll see in the next 4 years, just how much Obama and the Democrats really care about the poor as the poor numbers continue to swell and the money dries up.

Note my words: the urge to cram things…

To me, there is a very distinct legalistic (perhaps paternalistic would be a better word) streak that seems to supersede the desire for legitimate dialogue and debate - that turns me off and I know I’m not alone.

I’m generalizing about the mindset and attitude, not about any one particular issue.

👍 Or should I be 😦 for the poor.

Oh, undoubtably there will be soul searching, and rightfully so. After a loss self reflection is necessary. But with that said, I’m sure the GOP will rebound, possibly making the tent bigger, maybe some other change.

The DNC did well this election, but they have problems also. Our nations economy is poor. We still have a high national debt with credit rating agencies expressing concerns. There is also an unpopular health care system, Obamacare that we will see implemented in full soon. I remember also in 2008 when President Obama won his first election, many saying then where saying the Republican party was over never to win again. Then 2010 happened.

I though this a good suggestion on needed changes. I’m sure other good ideas will come along too.

“The NRSC’s Big Problem”

commentarymagazine.com/2012/11/07/the-nrscs-big-problem/#more-810393

From Alana Goodman’s article:
…Still, there clearly needs to be a change, and Mike Allen reports on what that might look like:
Richard “Mourdock [in Indiana] and [Todd] Akin [in Missouri] join [Christine] O’Donnell, [Sharron] Angle, and [Ken] Buck as candidates that are embarrassingly not ready for the scrutiny of a Senate election. High-level operatives have already begun studying after-action reports to make a change in the business model to address this problem for next cycle.”
Most likely solution: Enlist conservative outside groups to try to steer electable candidates toward nomination.
Sort of like a shadow Republican Senatorial Committee. It would make it more difficult for an unprepared or unelectable candidate to win the nomination, without ruffling the grassroots.

Right. You CAN count on President Obama to keep his word on pro-abortion issues, so you can take comfort with that.

The Republicans did NOTHING to win this election. They are always the party of “nice”. A tad behind the Democrats who ran the most negative and CRUDE campaign I have ever witnessed. Guess that’s what the majority relates to. What, Americans now feel “at home” with campaign ads that seniors are spewing profanities at Romney? Telling women to vote with their “Lady Parts”, and having some college girl talk about who she wants the “first time” to be with? I guess if this is what Republicans and Conservatives have to stoop to to win an election, I want NO PART OF IT.
You would do well to follow Robert Bay’s comments about how we ought to behave in the aftermath of the election. He said, at least three times, that we are to show charity to all times, especially now. Save the rancor for some other venue. As Mr. Bay noted, there are websites where you can say whatever you want in any way that you want - but not here. 😦 😦
