Obama nominates John Kerry for secretary of state

The epitome of hypocrisy is how liberals of the 70’s called Vietnam veterans “baby killers” while liberalized abortion has since killed more babies than the population of California.
Yep, a terrible irony isn’t it? And Kerry is one of those “Catholics” who is pro-abortion. The unfortunate result is that the SoS does have influence over abortion and US support for this carnage overseas. Certainly Hillary Clinton was all about “reproductive rights” in other countries. I suspect Kerry will follow along accordingly.

The psychological term for what the liberals of the 70’s did by calling Vietnam veterans “baby killers” is called “projection” which is the attribution to others of one’s own tendencies.

And Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell?

Jim, it’s dueling sources. I also checked Wikipedia and there were flags on the entry with claims it was lacking in credibility, that there were false statements and read at your own peril. Wikipedia is not exactly the Holy Grail Jim, I hope you are aware of that. Just as I didn’t accept all of the words of Jerome Korsi even though I tend to agree with him, I know sometimes he’s not credible. Neither is Wikipedia. There are multiple sources with information and sworn testimony by participants in the Winter Soldier lalapalooza that they were coached, coerced or even pressured to spin the stories a certain way.

The Communist backing of VVAW was well documented. The objective was to turn public opinion against the war, not to save innocent South Vietnamese. Were we truly concerned with them we probably wouldn’t have abandoned them to the VC when we booked it outta there.

Futher the issue isn’t whether or not any atrocities happened during the Vietnam War but to point to Kerry’s associations, his questionable actions with respect to his brother troops in the quest for political glory.

I’m only glad we didn’t have him as President. Hopefully given his lack of energy, accomplishment and anything but further self aggrandizement, he won’t do too much damage to America as SoS.

I knew you would attack Wikipedia, which is why I also included Bob Kerrey’s own testimony, but you probably think he’s a liar, because after all, he’s a democrat.

Also, the Winter Soldier Investigation is in line with the combat Marines I severed with, in what they saw.

Here’s another article for you to attack;
National Archives Offer New Proof of Vietnam War Atrocities
Hundreds of U.S. military investigative files that were classified for decades but are now available in the National Archives back up the young John Kerry’s Senate testimony and put the lie to his critics, including Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Incidents of mutilation and torture are cited.
This all being said, I was glad Kerry lost the presidency, for his wife is his biggest problem, when it comes to leadership.

However, as Secretary of State, he’ll be like Hilary, serving the president, not his wife.

Also, Kerry was a hypocrite when it comes to paying taxes. He had his yacht docked in Rhode Island, in order to avoid Massachusetts excise taxes, but the yacht spent most of the time at his Cape Cod mansion.

Yeah, John Kerry has his problems, but they don’t prevent him from being Secretary of State.

Heck, I had problems with Cheney as VP, and Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense. But that’s what politics is about. The president has to pay off his biggest supporters.

My concern is more about the person Obama chooses for Secretary of Defense. I just hope it’s some one who actually served in combat and not one who got deferments when called up for duty.

One more time with feeling and I’ll quit beating this dead horse. I do not deny that there were atrocities during Vietnam (and all other previous and subsequent wars).

Now please let that sit for a minute Jim, and let me try to make my point.

The fact that there WERE atrocities during the Vietnam War does not make the Winter Soldier testimony valid. There were subsequent investigations and as more than one poster has noted, some of the “witnesses” not only hadn’t witnessed atrocities, they hadn’t even been in combat. Some of the witnesses recanted, some explained they were fragile, looking for camraderie after returning from Vietnam and being disdained by fellow citizens for something they DID NOT DO.

I think Kerry along with many of the war protestors who were simply hiding beneath an anti-war persona to promote communism, change public opinion of the war and thus hasten our departure, did a lot of damage not only to the Vietnam vets but to our collective psyche. We are STILL fighting the Vietnam War as this thread indicates.

I do not think Kerry is a man of character. He is a man of ambition and self serving actions. As you noted, he avoided paying what is really a pittance in taxes considering his wife’s fortune. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

But we’re probably stuck with him and hopefully he’ll do little damage. I agree that the Secretary of Defense is a far more critical appointment and I too hope Obama doesn’t look at this position as another opportunity for paying back a supporter and actually appoints someone who cares about our troops and about our national defense. Again, I am so sorry someone like Gen Patreus or McKrystal won’t be nominated due to personal and IMO trivial issues.
