I don’t think “patting down” constitutes “groping.” My sister and I have been “patted down” numerous times because we have some East Indian blood and look East Indian. It was nothing. It would have been nothing but a nuisance had I been ten, too. I’d much rather see a ten-year-old patted down by a female as this one was for two minutes than see a plane blown up because a suspicious juice bag, i.e. a prohibited item on board was found. There is no groping. There is nothing sexual about it. And females pat down females.

Jihadists strap bombs to children.

I trust people who actually do the job they were hired to do, so I commend this agent, not condemn her. She didn’t harm the girl at all. How about the parents see their child doesn’t put prohibited articles in her luggage? Take some parental responsibility. Problem solved. I noticed the comments on the story were in favor of the agent.

It’s not an issue of morality. It’s an issue of public safety.
Name me the last time an AMERICAN ten year old child had a bomb strapped to him or her. Source please.

Someone else could have put it in there. It’s unlikely, but caution never hurts. The bottom line is that it is illegal to have a juice bag in one’s luggage, child or not. The ten-year-old was breaking the law. She deserved to be patted down. The agent was only doing her job. Kudos to her!👍

Tell me what female agent has been accused of being a pedophile and was caught “groping” a ten-year-old female child? You can’t because it’s never happened.

I don’t want to trust my life to agents who fail to do their job and do it thoroughly. A pat-down is no big deal. The family should just get over it.

I doubt that any American child has ever been used as a suicide bomber, but Americans have become ISIS sympathizers, and the possibility exists that an American child could be used as a suicide bomber: Prudence is a virtue, and it’s prudent not to take chances.

I think the parents just smell a lawsuit and settlement, which won’t be forthcoming, of course, because the agent was just doing her job.

Such agents are on a power trip, they are not **just doing their job. **Even Police officers don’t take two minutes to pat down a suspect that is highly likely to be armed.

TSA is incompetent, this has been proven time and time again.
TSA Fails 95% of Airport Breach Tests.

Lily, I wouldn’t spend effort protecting this crew.

Before 9/11 you could not name the last time American jets were hijacked with box cutters. Anticipating things that have not happened yet is part of the job of the TSA.

They have failed 100% in anticipating new threats, all their changes in screening came because they missed the like of the shoe bomber or underwear bomber.

They also fail to detect 95% of the known threats, when they are tested.

Is that any reason to criticize them for trying to anticipate threats, as JonNC was doing?

I guess I should commend you for demonstrating that possessing a level of moral obtuseness that would give a former member of the East German secret police pause is no barrier to being a professor of theology at an American university. You go grrl!

When C.S. Lewis made his famous quote about tyranny, yours is the mindset to which he was referring.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

A 10 year old girl was treated like a suspected terrorist for carrying a juice box; not a knife, or a gun, or a box cutter, but a juice box. Seriously, how can a reasonable person defend that?

As a person who works with the federal government, the people who seem to think more government is going to help entertain me.

Yup, that guy working for the private insurance company who denied your claim is a bad person, but if we make him an unfirable GS-12 suddenly he’ll care about you. 👍

One of my customers announced the first week of December that they were “done working” for the year. They still came in (except on their CWS day and their ‘work from home (lol)’ day), they just didn’t do anything. All that and they get 6 figures too.
As contractors, we NEVER announce we aren’t going to work. Sheesh. It is easy enough for slackers to lay low without announcing it. Surprised a govie did that*

*I say this ironically, as I post on Catholic Answers from my desk…

I don’t think she was treated like a suspected terrorist. I’ve been patted down several times and never felt like the agent was doing anything but her job.

The agent’s actions need no defense. The girl had a prohibited item in her carry-on. The agent was doing her job.

I noticed the father even slowed the video down to make it look like more than it was. I repeat: It’s no big deal.

No they haven’t, and I’ll bet you can’t find a source for your contention.

JonNC is right, they’ve failed miserably in achieving their objectives.

Spending undue effort on a 10yr old only further shows they’ve had no meaningful training in how to profile potential threats. Packing a juice box should not be major red flag. It shows they are looking in the wrong direction to anticipate threats.

No they haven’t, and I’ll bet you can’t find a source for your contention.
Please pay attention.

I gave two examples of their failure to anticipate and provided a link on their 95% failure rate in detecting known threats.

Jon…

I hate to pick on you, but your batting zero with me.

I think before 911 we could all agree that driving a commercial plane into a building full of people was just an evil absurd idea that we saved for those movies we should not be watching. Shortly, after the events of that day, Madeleine Albright was asked; what could we have done to stop this? Of course, at that time she was no longer the Secretary of State. It would have been a perfect opportunity to slam Bush and his administration. However, she was gracious and did not make it a partisan issue. She defended her successor to the position (Colin Powell) and basically stated that they could not be everywhere. But that this tragedy taught them that they were dealing with a different set of variables, one that had not encountered before. You heard this sentiment echoed by many since this time.

As a conservative, the biggest paradigm towards progress is the denial of change. Change can be for the better or for the worse but it is still going to take place. The resulting cogency is best for everyone when we are united and express our ideas & values in a civil manner. Take a look at the current state of the GOP? Trump is our main man and the party leaders don’t want him. What does this tell you about the health of the party?

People like me are tired of hearing from people like you that things are OK, when they are not. I am not just picking on you personally. But each of us needs to look in the mirror, if we are not part of the solution than we are part of the problem.

Hence, to solve problems, you need to be progressive and not reactive 🙂

I don’t doubt that, but this is not the reason things like a pat down of a ten year old girl takes place. They take place, in part, because of political correctness. We do not want to be thought of as “profiling”. So, the proverbial 88 year old grandmother is subject to special screening simply because she is randomly picked, instead of making choices that make sense.

TSA agents work under unneeded limitations. Maybe, perhaps, possibly, there was a reason this little girl was flagged, more than just the juice box. Maybe it was a good reason. But in general terms, the vast amount of terrorist attacks are perpetrated by Arabic, middle eastern, and yes, Islamic individuals, not 10 year old American girls, or 80 year old American grandmother.

Jon

I wasn’t criticizing attempts to anticipate threads. I was criticizing the PC reasons that, sometimes, we are not focused on the greatest possible threat.
Nor was I criticizing the TSA.

Now you are looking inside people’s heads and pretending to know what they are thinking! In truth, you can only guess why this or that action was taken.
But in general terms, the vast amount of terrorist attacks are perpetrated by Arabic, middle eastern, and yes, Islamic individuals, not 10 year old American girls, or 80 year old American grandmother.
As soon as it is known that anyone other than a Arabic middle eastern Islamic individual gets a free pass through the TSA, those bent on terrorism will instantly take advantage of that knowledge and get 10 year old white girls or 80 year old grandmothers to carry out their plans. This is exactly the reason for the use of women suicide bombers. They could escape the level of scrutiny that was previously reserved for men. I think the security people are smart to avoid those traps.
