Former President Barack Obama resurfaced on Friday and took a shot at Fox News viewers, saying they’re “living on a different planet” than people who consume mainstream media.
Obama made the remarks on the premiere of the new monthly Netflix series “My next guest needs no introduction with David Letterman,” which hit the streaming service on Friday morning. Early in the episode, Obama asked Letterman about his retirement but the veteran talk show host quickly let the former president know who was boss.

“Now here’s how this is gonna work. I’m gonna ask you stuff, and then you respond to stuff,” Letterman joked.

Given what some of their viewers post on this site, I would say that they are more deluded by lies that reaffirm their racist views than coming from a different planet.

Just like you say, everyone who watches Fox News or other conservative sites are deplorable, irredeemable, racist, homophobic… just because YOU say it.

I never said that about those people.

I do agree that they seem to have a different reality than the rest of us.

So Dems are doubling down on their ‘deplorables’ strategy.

Incidentally, I don’t watch Fox. I listen to NPR more than any other single source.

What is this “different reality”?

There are probably a lot of people who lean more Conservative or who voted for Donald Trump for president, maybe many millions of people, who don’t watch Fox News at all or rarely.

I actually agree with Obama. I just disagree that NPR is the planet of reality.

The President said, according to the FOX link:
"If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you are listening to NPR.”
Why is that a rip at the FOX viewer rather than NPR viewers like you - or both?

The discussion point, in the interview, was the problem that the American public does not have a common set of facts. In discussing the President’s remarks about this divide between distinct news sources, I would think that you would hold all of the sources accountable for the divide - rather than presuming that all of the fault is on one side.

Incidentally, just before the sentence quoted by FOX, the President said: "… we are operating in completely different information universes. " This statement does not lay blame, not does it say which, if any, information universe is true or which is false.

The discussion point was the problem that we do not have a common set of facts. I would think that you would hold both poles as sharing in that responsibility.

Your doubly misperception ironically underscores the problem.
You aren’t very clear in the point you are trying to make. Please try again so I can respond.

Personally I target a range of sources so I can get different perspectives. I also read with a very critical eye to discern what is fact and what is opinion in the source. I think NPR is great, but also biased.

For me NPR just is too pretentious. But then I liked Morton Downey Jr. when I was young and when yelling and talking over people was novel. Today I avoid all mainstream media in terms of radio and video.

Find. I don’t disagree, in principle. Show us the full text of what he said and let’s see…

Letterman then asked Obama what he considers the more dangerous threat to a democracy, the president demeaning the press or a foreign power sabotaging the voting process. Both options are clearly jabs at President Trump and Obama answered without mentioning the current president’s name.

“One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don’t share a common baseline of facts,” Obama said. "If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you are listening to NPR.”
