I like your idea of impartial news reporting but I guess the ratings are just too good to stop now??? I’m talking about both sides…

How many people from Norway want to come here vs. how many people from Haiti, or Cuba, or Mexico? How many Norwegians are risking their lives to illegally cross our borders out of desperation?

Once here, how many Norwegians insist we speak their language and adapt to their culture, vs. Haitians, Cubans or Mexicans? How many jobs have you been turned down for because you didn’t speak Norwegian?

I’ve seen at least one good Franciscan priest run out of his parish because most of the immigrants there, legal or otherwise, actually threatened him with harm due to his trying to cut back on the amount of Spanish masses and instruction, saying that it would be better if they learned the language of the country.

I’ve seen my mother turned down for more than one well-paying, qualified job that she desperately needed at the time because she didn’t speak Spanish.

It’s a problem.

I knew one that crossed the Atlantic illegally to get into the country during the government shut down in 1994. I don’t know if it was because he was desperate or annoyed. He was a student.

I haven’t meant many foreigners who came to the US that insisted that I speak their language or adapt to their culture. Why do you think that Haitians, Cubans and Mexicans do that?

None. I also haven’t been turned down from any job for inability to speak any language other than English. Has this happened to you?

Huh? I live in a city just chock-full of immigrants from Haiti, and Mexico, and Guatemala, and Honduras and El Salvador, not to mention Poland and other Eastern European nations, and from countries in the Middle East. And all over the world.

Not once, in my life, in nearly 60 years, has anyone ever insisted that I speak Spanish, or Haitian Creole, or Polish or any other language. Not once.

I do see that the language schools of the city are jam-packed with people trying to learn English, though.

Yes, and to other people I know. (I live in the Texas Panhandle, where there is a large Hispanic portion of the population. What about you?)

There’s a rich irony in supporters of one of the least presidential Presidents complaining about the supposed lack of courtesy of a previous president. And Obama is hardly the only ex president to allude to Trump’s many faults. That would pretty much be every living ex President.
