Obama vs Romney, who are you voting for and why?

Great posts He Man and Ridgrunner.

The left assumes the right doesn’t care about the poor. We do care. We just disagree on what truly helps the poor. Obama’s policies have hurt the poor and the middle class. His foreign policies have done very little to make this world a safer place.

His domestic policies have resulted in higher unemployment, loss of jobs, higher food and energy prices, astronomical rise in debt, and a certain huge tax hike for the next generation.

Remember, we are voting RR, not Bush.

Romney, of course, is not proposing tax cuts for the rich.

We are all just “one misfortune away from being poor”. Nobody has any guarantee of prosperity in this “Vale of Tears” (remember that?), and we all die in the end. In a material sense, there’s nothing “poorer” than that.

One “misfortune” that can push us into being poor is an economic depression. The current economy would be acknowledged as one if it were not for the “safety net” stuff. We would be seeing soup lines and old people begging. One “misfortune” that has done many is the housing devaluation. Some people have gone down (and in my opinion more will) due to the stock market gyrations. Some due to addictions. Many, many, many due to divorce. It’s not all due to medical expenses.

And we have now had four years of:
  1. The government doing absolutely nothing for the truly poor; the ones who can’t help themselves.
  2. A significant amount of subsidizing the rich and the middle class.
  3. Discouragement of hiring and investing.
  4. A stock market buoyed by artificially low interest, encouraging the volatile “carry trade”.
  5. Continued substandard lending and purchase of those by FNMA and FHLMC. Truly amazing.
  6. Obamacare’s reduction of Medicare reimbursement below that of Medicaid, which will truly be an economic shock to the elderly.
And that isn’t a threat of misfortune? It sure is in my book, and ought to be in the book of anyone who pays any attention to the economy at all.
There is this ignorant belief that Obama has been good for the poor and middle class, because that’s written in HTML on the DNC website. is there any evidence that has been good for anyone?

For somebody who is going to vote for Obama because he is going to provide adequate health care, you sound like a single issue person too. Of course it begs the question CMatt how you can truly say you favor it for people when you would be in favor of having a baby conceived in rape be denied his/her life and thereby their health and yet allow the perpetrator of it be allowed to live.

Do you not see the disconnect?
And here I spent all that time listing many of my reasons and you must not have read my post. 🙂

Sigh. I really didn’t want to be part of yet another abortion debate on this thread too. But I’ll go ahead and answer since it begs the question for you so you don’t think I am ignoring your question of me.

As a Christian I pray every child who enters the world is wanted, loved, and cared for. I value the sanctity of life. But for me the sanctity of life is also why I can’t help but to have some sensitivity to the effects an unwanted pregnancy due to rape can have on the lives of women and their families. We speak of religious liberty and I understand there are varying views on this issue among people of faith. Because I believe it is a spiritual as well as deeply personal decision for many women, I simply can’t find it in my heart to force my will upon them in such a case. For me to believe they are incapable of making this decisoon themselves after they pray over it, consult their own spiritual advisors, their families, perhaps their drs, devalues them as women and their own lives. So I leave it in the hands of our Father. He granted free will. And I simply must pray if they make a choice that turns out to be against His will, that in His infinite understanding and mercy, they can be forgiven.

I speak from the bottom of my heart and this is what I see. But I fully understand you and other Catholics do not agree. And I do not expect you to. I respect and understand your views. And I can only hope you respect my right and that of other Christians and other people of faith to ours. In any case may God truly bless you and peace.

R is my straight ticket vote to promote freedom from authoritarian enslavement by attrition (abortion, euthanasia, government death panel for the elderly and infirm) and economic entrapment (Quantitative Easing, back-to-the-plantation welfare versus jobs and work-fare and astronomical multi-generational public debt). To paraphrase Fr. Andrew Greeley, “It is a mortal sin to vote Democrat.”

Blight has been institutionalized with Fannie Mae crashing the housing market though Republicans warned of insolvency; and unregulated mortgage-backed derivatives are per Brooksley Borne’s further warnings still unregulated and able to again crash the financial quarter. This looting of America has been decried by honest civil servants like Brooksley Borne, who was brutalized into resigning by Bill Clinton and his money men now on board with Barack. Fannie Mae bought a million-dollar computer program to quantify and trade carbon credits snitched from mortgage holders, which will raise fuel prices for consumers and hamstring business if the “Global Warming” investors get their way. Here’s Brooksley Borne’s FRONTLINE interview:

Blight has further been institutionalized by withholding three-billion dollars ($3,000,000,000) in mortgage relief under the “Hardest Hit” program. If outright grants of $50,000 had been given to those poor who were foreclosed, sixty-thousand homeowners would have kept their downpayments, be in their own digs, and be paying taxes and stabilizing neighborhoods. Instead, financiers get to keep the downpayment and the cash equity from poor home buyers, and they get to keep the house, and they get to keep the bailout money. The “community activist” attorney for Chicago’s criminal slumlords (as Hillary’s campaign noted) like Tony Rezko, who helped with Barack’s Hyde Park mansion deal, has his “progressive” HUD streamlining the purchase process for said slumlords, not families.

Poverty is institutionalized with Quantitative Easing, unlimited in QE3, as the Federal Reserve Bank (a consortium of anonymous foreign and domestic banks Ron Paul-R wants audited) prints money, dilutes buying power, and creates inflation, all to buy back Treasury bonds to…fight inflation that it is itself creating as savings are eaten alive and prices rise. This isn’t a failure, it is another success among their many “progressive” goals to make America a has-been.

Blight is universal with foreclosed homes even in upscale neighborhoods looted for air conditioners, hot water heaters, furnaces, and every scrap of iron and copper available, this by people with no hope, “No shovel-ready jobs,” (with giggle from Barack), and no jobs program from this one-time slumlord’s lawyer, as Hillary noted. The Fast & Furious grant of guns, and billions in cash from IRS refund fraud, means the drug cartels are poised to keep their market share with their hoods preying on America’s neighborhoods.

Virtual 0% interest rates. Interest rates have dwindled to nothing. That has created another bubble in the stock market which is seen as a refuge for cash. But the Federal Reserve has xeroxed enough cash to zero out these bubble-icious gains even before the pop that will eradicate the last of the middle class.

R is my straight-ticket vote because even staunch pro-life Democrats are easily bribed as seen in the Obamacare vote. The administration that promised us “transparency” and vowed to have the Obamacare bill on the internet before the vote didn’t. Nancy Pelosi commanded D’s to vote ‘yea’ first, read later. I call it zombie voting.

R is my straight-ticket vote because Hitler’s allies, the Muslim Brotherhood, the fiends who told Hitler to kill, not imprison Jews, has been emplaced by the same autocrats who want to bully Catholic nuns to buy insurance covering hormonal abortifacients and surgical sterilization or else fine them $100 a day. C’mon. Wake up. America didn’t fall, she was pushed. May God bless, protect, and restore sanctity and abundance to America, and may God grant Jerusalem His perfect peace.

Other than the little tickle in your tummy you get when you say his name, can you point me to some stats on how the poor are doing better under Obama? Anything, please? Just some substantive links to how he as improved the lives of the downtrodden and poor.

I will be voting for Romney. If you are somewhat familiar with our doctrinal teachings and what we support, along with the current political issues, then you would vote for Romney. Also, his VP will be Paul Ryan, a practicing Catholic! 🙂

It is not enough to say that we will pray for the elections, we must also use our right to vote to fight for what is right.
To find out more go to catholicvote.org, you will find all the info you need there!
I will vote for Romney. For these same reasons.

You are fooling yourself,if you think Obama and his socialist agenda are going to improve anyone’s economic plight. Romney/Ryan are willing to dig in and do what needs to be done to save Medicare,SS.If you care about your children and grandchildren, enjoying the benefits and freedoms that are the core of this country’s greatness, don’t vote for Obama.Quit drinking the koolaid. Look what is going on in Europe,is that what you want?:eek:
I will not take offense at your entirely ineffective argument that I am deluded or uneducated. 🙂

I’ll be holding my nose and voting for Mitt, I’m definitely not wild about it though…I wish we could get someone a little more libertarian elected, but that seems basically impossible in our country.

Putting Christ first by putting the poor last?
It must really be a hard life to walk around thinking that 50 % or so of the population want to ignore the poor and starve the hungry just because they have an “R” in front of their name.

You forgot to mention we like to step on kittens’ tails too.😛

I am just wondering if Romney’s plan of cutting taxes for the rich goes along with Mark 10:17-25.

The Rich and the Kingdom of God

17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[a]”

20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is** to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”**

Notice the section which I colored. Jesus did not say go and be taxed of all you own? He distinctly said, sell what you have and GIVE it to the poor. Let me ask you, which candidate gave more, by percentage or dollar amount??? I am embarrassed to say that I gave more to charity than Joe Biden last year, and I am far behind him in annual income; embarrassed for him that is. Sad, just sad, what someone will believe to preserve the ideas manifested in an ill-formed conscience.

There is no virtue in taking money from a person and giving it to another, there is virtue in a person volunteering to feed someone.

Obama’s hurting the middle class more than anyone.

You could make a case, Obama helps the rich out with this printing of money, etc. The rich don’t suffer as much when the dollar loses value, they may lose more but their net worth is more.

Excellent post 👍

Could you give us a 1-2 sentence definition of the bolded part? Thank you:)
Can I distill Distributism into one or two sentences? Only by quoting Christ: Love thy neighbor as thyself for the love of God.

The ramifications of applying this to our economic structure may be somewhat described in these quotes:

Thomas Stork: “[D]istributism seeks to subordinate economic activity to human life as a whole, to our spiritual life, our intellectual life, our family life…”

G K Chesterton: “The problem with capitalism is not too many capitalists but too few.”

Pope Leo XIII: “[C]apital cannot do without labor, nor labor without capital. Mutual agreement results in the beauty of good order, while perpetual conflict necessarily produces confusion and savage barbarity.”

Pope Leo XIII: “[C]apital cannot do without labor, nor labor without capital. Mutual agreement results in the beauty of good order, while perpetual conflict necessarily produces confusion and savage barbarity.”
It’s interesting to note that the percentage of national income going to property of all sorts (capital) and that going to labor has never varied by more than a percentage point or two since they first started keeping statistics on it in 1929. They go up and down in tandem.
Why is that so? Because without labor, capital is idle. Without capital, labor can’t function.

There have been attempts to change the relationship, and it has happened in some places without good results. Most notable, perhaps, is the old Soviet Union, which Solzhenitsyn described as the place “Where labor is cheap and capital dear, unlike in the west where it’s the other way around.”

You are falsely assuming though that this mean’s Romney’s presidency would hurt the economy, the poor, or the neediest among us. No conservative has claimed that, even though you apparently implied that.

Even if you "think’ Romney will be bad for the economy, what about the last 4 years has provided any evidence that Obama is good for the poor or the economy? It’s the slowest “recovery” on record, he’s failed his own litmus test on unemployment and the deficit, he’s gotten no budgets passed, and he’s accumulated more debt in 4 years than Bush did in 8 years and two wars. It’s like saying I’d rather watch a movie I can’t stand watching rather than try a new movie because the new movie may stink. yeah, but you saw the old one and you know it was terrible? The logic doesn’t compute to me.

Why would anyone who wants to help the poor look at Obama and say “he has.” By EVERY reputable measurable, he has failed the poor, hurt them, and increased their numbers.

I can understand why someone would endorse him based on on social issues, but for people who disagree with him on social issues (like Catholics should), can someone explain what about the last four years do you specifically believe has been good for the poor among us? What policies have helped the poor, specifically? And do you see the debt level as sustainable? By every account, he has hurt the neediest among us, at least to me.
Cardinal Dolan approves of the Ryan plan - why can’t Catholics?

When I first started posting here, I was skipping the Presidential line, I was going to vote for local offices only. However, my time here and the research I’ve done on what has been posted here-plus a LOT of prayer and a LONG chat with my Confessor has convinced me to vote for Obama.

I’ve removed the issue of abortion from consideration since I have no confidence at all that Romney has any intention of doing anything about it. It’s not his area, he’s more interested in the economy-and since my family and I are part of the 47% who make too little to pay taxes, or depend on government programs like Social Security and Medicare he’s not that interested in us. We’re nowhere near his definition of middle class which he thinks is $250,000 a year, so we’re not even on his radar. I’m concerned that he and his friends will take us into yet another ill-advised war-because war makes a lot of money for a lot of people. I’m concerned that even the small gains we’ve made in jobs will evaporate as he and his friends send more jobs overseas for cheap labor and big profits. I’m concerned that Wall Street will once again gamble with everyone’s future because there will be even fewer regulations, and now everyone’s retirement and long term medical care will be tied to it.

I know I’m in the minority here but that’s not high on my list of priorities in life.
If your confessor brought you to this conclusion, please seek out a new confessor. He is supposed to counsel you in your sin, not convince you that it’s morally okay to vote for a proven supporter of the pro-abortion agenda.
