To me this is a no brainer, I’m voting for Romney.

All the social aspects of christian life, social justice, helping the poor, jobs and the economy are based on the Right to Life as is pretty clear in this statement from Pope John Paul II cited in Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship from the U.S. bishops conference:

Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf
of human rights—for example, the right to health, to home,
to work, to family, to culture—is false and illusory if the right to
life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition
for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum
determination. (Christifideles Laici, no. 38).

If you don’t have life, what does it matter about the other issues?

And Pope Benedict XVI on the principal focus of the church in the public arena:

As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, the principal focus of her interventions in the public arena is the protection and promotion of the dignity of the person, and she is thereby consciously drawing particular attention to principles which are not negotiable. Among these the following emerge clearly today:
  • protection of life in all its stages, from the first moment of conception until natural death;
  • recognition and promotion of the natural structure of the family - as a union between a man and a woman based on marriage - and its defence from attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different forms of union which in reality harm it and contribute to its destabilization, obscuring its particular character and its irreplaceable social role;
  • the protection of the right of parents to educate their children.
(Address to the members of the European People’s Party, March 30, 2006)
Pope Benedict XVI mentioned these non negotiable values again in the Apostolic Exhortation SACRAMENTUM CARITATIS:
  1. Here it is important to consider what the Synod Fathers described as eucharistic consistency, a quality which our lives are objectively called to embody. Worship pleasing to God can never be a purely private matter, without consequences for our relationships with others: it demands a public witness to our faith. Evidently, this is true for all the baptized, yet it is especially incumbent upon those who, by virtue of their social or political position, must make decisions regarding fundamental values, such as respect for human life, its defence from conception to natural death, the family built upon marriage between a man and a woman, the freedom to educate one’s children and the promotion of the common good in all its forms (230). These values are not negotiable. Consequently, Catholic politicians and legislators, conscious of their grave responsibility before society, must feel particularly bound, on the basis of a properly formed conscience, to introduce and support laws inspired by values grounded in human nature (231). There is an objective connection here with the Eucharist (cf. 1 Cor 11:27-29). Bishops are bound to reaffirm constantly these values as part of their responsibility to the flock entrusted to them (232).
It is clear that the Democratic party is pro abortion as well as for same sex couple marriages as can be seen on their 2012 party platform statement while the Republican party is pro life and for the defense of marriage between a man and a woman. Pray tell me what evils greater than abortion and same sex couple marriages are present on the Republican platform statement? Indeed, what evils or sins are present on the Republican platform statement at all? I don’t mean to imply that the Republican party platform is perfect and could not be bettered. The democratic party is also infringing on our religious liberties.

The Israelites in the Old Testament were exiled from their homeland because they failed to keep God’s commandments which are the basis of the whole moral law. God would have protected the Israelites from the enemies, given them plenty to eat and drink, and had them live in peace if they only would have kept his commandments. Jesus teaches the same: seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and these other things will be given you as well. The lesson here is that we are not to place first in our lives our jobs, health, what we are to eat and drink etc. for these are all gifts from God. The keeping of God’s commandments come first and doing his will.

I do not agree with the democrats idea of taking people’s hard earned money and giving it to politicians who think they know how to spend the money better. Most of it is either wasted or pocketed. I’d rather keep the money myself that I earned and if I want to help the poor with it, I’ll do that myself. I do agree that we should pay some taxes.

We are heading towards being a socialist or possibly communist country under Obama. European countries are heading towards ruin presently under socialism.

At the democrats party convention, they wanted to take God and Jerusalem out of their platform statement. Are you getting the picture yet?

That the democratic party is for helping the poor and the Republican party is not is hogwash pure and simple. In fact, the plea for the poor that the democratic party makes sounds to me something like what the disciples made to Jesus when a woman poored an alabaster jar of costly perfumed oil on Jesus’ head. The disciples said ““Why this waste? It could have been sold for much, and the money given to the poor”. Jesus said “The poor you will always have with you; but you will not always have me.” (Matthew 26:11).
I’m not saying we shouldn’t help the poor, I wouldn’t be a christian if I didn’t. Helping the poor is a part of christian discipleship. But I help the poor not principally for their own sake, but for the sake of Jesus. For charity is that virtue by which we love God above all things and our neighbor for God’s sake.

I just happen to see things differently and do not buy into the scenario you describe. I live in Massachusetts where people who make up to 130% of the poverty level get free healthcare through Medicaid. Those who do not qualify get subsidized coverage based on their income level. Nobody pays a tax unless they refuse to pay into a system that is there for them when they need it. That is reality.

I’m sorry that Romney, who has given all of this to us through Romneycare, would deny it to the rest of the nation by repealing Obamacare. It just doesn’t seem fair to the poor, sick and elderly who happen to live in states where the ruling party thinks access to food, housing and health care are not life issues.
Your conclusion is not logical. Massachusetts put the program you like in place before Obamacare existed. How does repealing Obamacare deny the rest of the states in the nation the ability to create a similar system?

The “ruling class” in every state are the people of that state…the voters.

Brilliant. People always forget this. When Roe v Wade is overturned, it returns to each state. If 49 states choose to “overturn” it, it will be because their citizens chose to do so.

In a bad economy, the poor and lest stable among us always get hit first. Businesses can always lay employees off. Employees can’t lay anyone off.

Half the people who are voting for more unemployment and debt are the ones who are going to cry for help when it hits them, (or continues to hit them).

And they want some one to fix it then? Hard to have much sympathy, since we always get the President we deserve. My sympathy is reserved for the people who vote to change their problems, not continue them. I’ll always disagree with Obama on social issues, but at least if the economy was roaring I’d see why people would be swayed.

If we reelect Obama and the economy stays the way it is or gets worse, we deserve it and I will shed no tears for those who chose this fate for themselves. We get who we deserve.
Well said,sad but true,nonetheless…

The problem is that liberal elitist “ruling class” in some states…like Massachusetts…feel the need to force their will on the voters of other states in areas where they shouldn’t.

Our state has some similar provisions to take care of the poor (i.e. free or subsidized coverage based on income), and our neighbor to the South has a different program. Why do we need to have the same program as Massachusetts? Why do we need Obamacare?

Who are you quoting?

Newest polls show Obama is 10 points ahead in Ohio and leading in voter’s opinions as to who will better handle the economy and who will effectively lead in foreign relations, and who would better handle national security.

A candidate has never won the Presidency without winning OH.

cnn.com/2012/09/26/politics/romney-ohio/index.html

But the problem is with the multiple polls right?- that’s MULTIPLE polls.

But Romney’s going to win right?

I don’t get excited about polls, pro or con.

Congrats if you do.

Since those polls are so reliable, you should stay home in November.

Oh, I’ll vote though I’m in NY so hardly a battle ground state.

With six weeks to go, it ain’t over til it’s over…I wouldn’t pop that bottle of champagne just yet!😉

What is the ratio of Representatives to Senators in your state?

It’s important, because you talk about Massachusetts forcing their will upon the voters of other states, but you ignore the fact that many Red states with low populations routinely force their will on the majority of the people of this nation with every filibuster in the Senate.

If a state can come up with a better plan for universal coverage, like Vermont is working on, they can opt out of Obamacare.

The result probably wont be in until after I am asleep anyway. These things tend to close pretty late.

Instead of Champagne the next morning, I’ll just get my regular coffee as I keep looking for a job. 🙂

I love VT. If it wasn’t so, well in the back woods, I would move there. Maybe when I retire. Such a beautiful place.

The autumn up there can pierce the heart. :heaven:

Again, any state can do what their elected representatives (you know, the ones the “ruling class” elected) decide to do. Repealing Obamacare denies them nothing that they want. It only denies them things you (a “ruling class” from a different state) have decided they are too stupid to do themselves. No thanks. We don’t need you and your liberal nannies. We are adults.

Obama took Ohio by 2% and Florida by 1.5% against McCain.

Raise your hands if you believe that Obama will do better than 2008 in those states.

And Vermont winters can freeze the buttocks. My sister lives in Manchester Center. :snowing: :snowing: :winter:
