Obama vs Romney, who are you voting for and why?

I made my statement (on p. 36 of the thread) with respect to her reaction about my assertions regarding broader economic statistics, which had nothing to do with her private life or her private attitudes toward others, but had to do with her political ideology.
Al Moritz:
That is precisely why you live in a right-wing bubble parallel to reality, and I don’t. I live in actual reality.
Not…personal?

Oh, you mean “political reality”, not a “personal reality”. There are, of course, vary degrees and sources of reality.

I’m fascinated by this “He’s a rich guy born in a bubble, immune to our daily struggles” line.

**Can you name a Presidential candidate in the past 100 years who isn’t? ** Did Kennedy’s, Roosevelt’s or Kerry’s wealthy backgounds disqualify them from POTUS?

LOL @ selective outrage.
Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, LBJ, Harry Truman…need I go on?

John

He’s done nothing but hurt the poor… btw hope you can live with yourself… as this worthless pres will continue to codone murder of little kids… even they are born alve after a botched attempt at murdering babies.
I will be voting for President Obama. In my view, President Obama’s policy on social justice and the poor just simply resonate. He’s worked in the trenches with the poor and vulnerable while in Chicago which decisively speaks in his favor. You can’t take experience away. He seems to be balanced in the manner he governs. I recently spoke to two religious sisters that I know and they confided in me that President Obama offers the greatest hope for the poor than they have seen in a president in a many years. He’s been a good president in light of what he inherited, not to mention a congress that won’t work with him on anything. Strictly speaking, the economy is slowly starting to improve, and the stock market has nearly doubled compared to when he took over. The President’s foreign policy has been fairly effective too. With that said, I do wish he would move the date up on brining all of our military troops home. It’s fair to say that when he was elected he inherited a nightmare. So for this Catholic, it’s Obama and Biden 2012!

Let’s see how the debates go. I think Obama will likely win because he is far more polished speaker, but anything could happen. Who knows but that Romney might prove to be the better speaker. If I had to bet, I’d pick Obama, but I’ve been to Oaklawn and have lost my share of bets before. 😃
Unless Obama makes a huge gaffe, he will be the perceived winner by a good portion of the media. If Romney has a strong night it will help him but you may be hardpressed to find the non Fox press calling him a “winner”.

Bill Clinton’s step dad owned a Buick dealership. Do you know any struggling, middle class, Buick dealership owners?

Truman’s grandparents owned a 600 acre farm in NW Missour. I can tell you the going price now would place them into those penalized by the “death tax”.

Nixon had farily humble beginnings, but the point is the overwhelming majority of Presidential candidates are overwhelmingly wealthy, and that the silence was deafening from the left when Kerry was running (or Kennedy was in the Senate).

But since you reminded me of it, I’ll mention when I was a young man and had the obligatory “Rich Girlfriend” from NYC. (Every young man should have one, as well as a Southern Belle Girlfriend and a Nightclub Singer Girlfriend, at least once each.)
I had the rich NY girlfriend for a while. Lived on Park Avenue, and was pretty high maintenance, but a brilliant mind, good, but not fabulous looks, and would pick up almost all the checks when we went out. Alas, no Southern Belle girlfriend or chanteuse girlfriend.
Mostly they sailed and played polo and (her words) “played ‘country set’ during the day and partied in Manhattan at night”.
I was on the fringes of that set. The rich girl and I went to a bunch of parties on the North Shore of Long Island (Gadsby country). To say the homes were fabulous was an understatement.
I guess I was a bit of a reverse snob, and figured out that there was no way I could live that way, and that she would ultimately come to resent it if I didn’t.
You were right. I was dead sure that I’d never live the way my girlfriend’s set did. I could not believe how rich some people were and how they lived.
Needless to say, we parted at my instance, so perhaps I’m nearly as much a reverse snob as you are, Rich. I think Fitzgerald was at least half right. How did he put it “Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me”?
I agree with Fitzgerald. They are different, much different. The ice cream man wasn’t a New Yorker and stands as an exception. 🙂

Are you kidding? Obama’s “gaffes” are right wing-nuts taking Obama’s statements out of context.

Maybe its just one giant conspiracy to sell tons of newspapers after the election.

That way on Wednesday morning, if Romney wins, they can splash it across the headlines about the “unexpected” upset. And interview “expert” after “expert” about how that could have happened. And check with a bunch of Obama supporters to find out how disappointed they are. Then of course they’ll have to get the couple of people who plan to move to Canada because the US is going to a totalitarian state. 😃

Source for the doctoring claim?
People at the rally, where else? Just be patient, you’ll see. But you will have to change the channel off of MSNBC or NBC, try Fox or at least CNN for a while.

This isn’t the first time they have doctored and broadcast the info untruthfully, look at what they did to stir the race issues in Florida with the Travon Martin case. Their intellectual integrity is 0.

I expect Obama to do much better than Romney because he’s a far more polished speaker. I’m saying nothing about content, just about the speaking abilities of each man. Even the GOP has low expectations of Romney’s performance.

If I were one of the GOP faithful, I’d concentrate on the message, not the messenger.
Where do you get this junk, “GOP even has low expectations?”

There is a long way between “church demands” and Church “permits”.
If you want to say the church 'permits" you to vote pro abortion , go for it. Catholic literature and even pope John Paul II encouraged us to vote for the one that would do the less evil (as in abortion).

I can’t figure why a Catholic would even want to contradict that. Vote your faith. That slogan is all over this web site as well.

Somewhere I heard the NY Times of all people set the record straight on this Romney Ryan event.

I’d not call it junk as it was reported by Yahoo News. Don’t accept that? We’ll just have to wait for the debate to see who the trashman is.

I’m not betting on either, though the smart money is on Obama.

Yea, he’s really polished. What happened when those policemen acted “stupidly” again and how are our Navy “CorPsmen” doing these days? I hope there are no smudges on the teleprompter!!!

Had a republican made those kind of silly blunders we would still be seeing the nightly news lead with this.

The fact that there will always be abuse of any government program does not mean that every government program is bad. It only means that human nature is weak. Abuse cannot be prevented, only reigned in.

If your argument were right we would have to prohibit all handguns only because some lunatics go on a shooting spree.
Al, I really don’t think it matters what anyone says, you just want to argue.

Yes, Obama is a polished speaker. We’ll see how polished when they have the debate, and see who mops the floor with whom.

No need for a “conspiracy”. It’s clear as day right out there.

Even if Romney sweeps the floor with Obama don’t expect banner headlines for Romney. They’ll dig up the one two many times he coughed to counter act any success.
