Obama wants Marines to wear ‘girly’ hats

TBH I think both hat styles are butt ugly. The traditional on both genders looks like someone is wearing a dinner plate balanced on a cereal bowl covered over in white leather while the so-called girlie (oh come on really?) hats look like they left off the dinner plate and traded out a cereal bowl for a mortar and pestle base and covered it in white leather. I see no win here either way.😛

Not as good as the Navy. We always poke fun at my Dad for wearing a dog dish on his head. I mean, really, it looks like a dog dish! He may be a Commander now, but he had to wear it when he first started out! 😃

He’s prior enlisted? Officers don’t wear the Dixie cup or the “dog dish” lol.

Yes, he went in for 6 years as enlisted, got out, did some other work, then went back 2 years later (maybe 3, can’t quite remember), because he could finally get the officer’s training/school he was promised before. My Dad just couldn’t stay away from the Navy/military. He has 25+ years in already.

That’s awesome. I just told my husband about the dog dish and he pouted. lol. I will forever think of it was a dog dish now. 😃
 
I don’t think the new hats look ‘girly’ at all. Although it would be difficult what I think should be gotten rid of is the machismo stereotype in the military and especially present in the marines.

It really has nothing to do with hertero or homosexual. It starts out in basic training with the weaker physically being labeled as f@gs or the slow. Those who fit the ‘macho’ stereotype are accepted instantly. Stereotypes are dumb to me. And I have persoannally known Marines who serve with distinction who are homosexual, as long as they are discreet and meet the stereotype. I also helps if they smoke like trains and have lots of bloody tattooos and tattoos featureing naked women.

Personally I would make an awful Marine, too much of an individualist and the shouting would make me giggle because it is silly to me.

The new covers might only be an interim step.

Rumor has it that on Obama’s “Thought Pad” in the Oval Office, there is a drawing of a marine in unisex leather mask and a spandex leotard uniform with a very discreet, yet tasteful eagle/anchor/rainbow logo on it, to be rolled out in 2016.

But that’s only a rumor. 😃 Few claim to have actually seen it.
 
I personally didn’t see anything wrong with the hats. In fact, I thought the new ones looked better than the old ones.

That said, I think it is ridiculous that they are willing to spend eight million dollars just to have unisex uniforms/hats when we are facing severe debt issues. I mean, we almost reached the debt ceiling just recently didn’t we? It is absolutely stupid that our government spends so much on our military for one thing. I think they ought to slash their budget by 50% at the very least. Maybe that way we wouldn’t act like the world’s police and go invading whatever nation we want on a stupid whim. :mad:
 
There is absolutely no need to replace the historic Marine Corps cover! as a former Marine i understand the connection to those who came before, to those who served and died before, and to change the uniform in such a willy-nilly manner is downright disrespectful!

Tradition means something to a Marine…

The point is, neither the Marines’ uniforms, nor that of any branch of the military, have been static. If you don’t like the proposals - OK, but “Tradition” is a red herring.
 
As our country’s first gay president, I guess it makes sense that Obama’s primary interest in the military is making better fashion choices…

Uniforms change all the time. I heard that they are changing Navy dress whites to look more like the dress blues. Heck, it was just a few years ago that they Navy changed several of their uniforms. It happens. That 8 million would still be going towards uniforms. My husband gets a check every December to buy new uniforms. I’m sure Marines get an allowance, as well. When uniforms change, it takes quite sometime to phase out the old ones. So it would be years from now before these were required.

Every year military members are given a clothing stipend. Then they go buy uniforms/boots/hats/whatever they need at the base clothing store. Old uniform pieces are still allowed for quite awhile, they just aren’t sold anymore. I lived on an Air Force base as they were switching their BDUs to the digital print ABUs and it really wasn’t much of an issue for anyone. I can’t imagine that hats will be the end of the world.

Technically, the officers get a one time allowance. (Not that I am complaining). When I was active, we got $300, most of which went to our Mess Dress (formal wear).

You didn’t pay for the flight suits, luckily, which is all I wore. BDUs and Blues were out of pocket.

I can’t see the French Foreign legion hats being accepted by the Marines at all.

Yeah…let’s feminize them instead. What the hey, they’ve feminized pretty much everything else in this country…including the Church with inclusive language and what have you. Why should the military be exempt? :rolleyes: The wussification of America continues…unabated!
