Once again this is false

At highest estimates there are 80 million people receiving food and welfare benefits. That is about 20%

Not the majority.
if you only consider those few entitlements, maybe, what about all of the other hand out programs?

yes, I am trying to figure out how to participate in the gravy train. The majority of Americans have choosen this path and I wish to join them.

you are taking those out of the intended context. they were factual clarifications not prideful claims.

The problem with your assertion is that I do not intend to cheat or steal. I intend to work within the laws that our society has established. and engage, to some extent, in the behavior our society has chosen to reward.
If you intend to continue to live as a married couple and only to divorce or legally separate in order to collect welfare benefits - that is fraud … you can cut it anyway you want - but you would be living a lie …

As for clarification - you do not earn all the money and your wife none …but that is what you said … as a married person - all you do is in common … and if your spouse does not work outside the home for monetary compensation - she still contributes to the financial well being of your home … try hiring a housekeeper, cook and laundry service …if you have kids - the child care and chauffeur services …

My spouse and I never thought of our funds independently or who made more then the other - we were one - our lives were one … our decisions were one - our income was one …

That is all of the handout programs.

Medicare and social security are not handouts. You must pay in and get vested.

For example as a firefighter, I have a pension. So Ido not pay into social security and I will not be able to claim from it. .

So let’s use your 19%

That equates to $2000 a year of your taxes used for entitlement programs

You want to do all this over that?
That is what I am trying to figure out. That would almost cover the extra cost added to my healthcare plan from Obamacare in the first year after it was passed.

Except your wife will have to get her own health plan since you aren’t married. And when you factor in her income from you she will have to pay for it.

it isn’t just the elderly getting back what they put in, it is a lot of people who are getting back dollars after putting in pennies, many people reap much more from Social Security than they put in. It also is paying out money to people who have never worked a day in their life.

So why should my wife, who is disabled not be able to get a disability check from social security solely because she is married to me?
Its a fact that if your wife is disabled - she probably does qualify for aid … but you don;t have to game the system for that to be true …

Its a fact that if your wife never works a day in her life - she will collect social security based upon your income and social security earnings … and that without the games you are contemplating - no lies - no gaming the system … none of that makes it legal or moral for you to lie, cheat and steal by filing for a separation/divorce that is not real in any sense of the word purely to obtain welfare benefits

Financial Requirements
Financial requirements are broken into two components: income and resources. You are considered financially eligible for the Food Stamp Program if both income and resource requirements are met.
Household Income: All available income for all members of your household is counted when we determine your eligibility for food stamps. However, we subtract certain expenses from that total. If, after subtracting your expenses, your total net income equals or falls below the monthly net income limits for the number of people in your household, you are considered income-eligible.
Household Resources: All resources you and members of your household own are considered when determining eligibility. Examples of resources are cash, bank accounts, stocks, bonds, permanently unoccupied real estate, and some trusts. We do not count certain resources, such as the home you are living in, your furniture, and certain vehicles. If, after counting or excluding your household’s resources, your total countable resources equal or fall below $2,000, or $3,500 if at least one member in your household is age 60 or older, you are considered resource-eligible.
Note it says nothing about marriage.

Wow, just wow. Please remember some of us in society have lifelong conditions and are on assistance programs and hate it, but we are helpless to magically change our conditions. I’ve been looking for work for 2 years, no one else paid for my education outside of family and academic scholarships, and no one will hire me because they see only the disability.

So think before categorizing welfare recipients as unchaste or lazy…the majority who are in situations like mine aren’t either! And be grateful for what you have…could be a heck of a lot worse for you and your family.

Just my reaction to this whole discussion, take it for what you want.

I think you are off track here. Bottom line is that there is a lot of money being made available to people and my wife can not access that money solely because of her legal association with me.
Nope.

As I posted and confirmed. When applying for benefits it asks for household income and assets. Not married income and assets.

So you would lie about that pretending you don’t live together. Or one lives in your vacation house and one your home when in fact you live together.

No I was thinking about buying some property closer to work which I could live on during the week and visit on the weekends.

As I said I am trying to understand the rules, not break them.

I think that we realize that - in fact one poster commented that to game the system results in taking money from those that truly need the assistance - I believe if you look back through the posts it reads something like *taking food from children that really need the assistance *

But there are those that are committing welfare fraud - similar to what the OP is proposing … I know that I want my tax dollars spent appropriately - I do not want the government to support those who have adequate resources, those that are able bodied and those that are gaming the system …

In fact - I think this is why government should get out of the safety net business - especially at the federal level - there is no way to economical way to feed people locally by first sending a dollar to Washington DC - having it roll around the Federal Bureaucracy - then make it back to the states to put food on the table - one size fits all, no oversight … no accountability

Sorry to hear you have had such troubles. My wife and I also have disabilities and it cost me a few jobs but I have been fortunate to be able to work through the set backs, not so much for my wife. I’d be happy if they changed the laws to provide jobs instead of hand outs, but if this is the game they want to play, we might as well play it.

And that’s cheaper than your Obamacare increase.

Right. Lol

If you want to pretend you are not married by getting a separation or divorce - but not really be living separately nor consider yourself separated or divorced in order to qualify for some public assistance - then you are trying to break the rules … that is exactly what you are doing - that is Fraud

Here let me help you out here …

Right. Lol
actually I only referenced what happened in year one, year two was much worse. And I just found out they are taking away my health care plan and I don’t know what a new plan will cost but I fear the rates will sky rocket again.

By the way, even before obamacare hit we were debating a second residence closer to my work for gas savings and reduce the amount time I spent on the road after long work days.

But you still have to pay for Obamacare for you and your kids.
