Occupy protests go from peace to "chaos"

Same here

I can. I’ve seen people on this forum attack Muslims and make gross falsehoods about them. I’ve also seen unfair insults of liberals and liberalism, with people going as far as calling it a cancer
I’ve read posts here that are as innane, pointless, and sophomoric as the OWS movement as well.

Government. I think it best not to perpetuate the myth that those who are different than us are somehow more stupid by use of stereotyping.
Apparently, those of us who appreciate the First and Second Amendment and believe that these constraints on the government were designed to empower people are somehow less intellectually capable. 🤷

I understand there have been some clashes with police, as this is to be expected. However, the protestors fail to acknowledge that their right to protest ends where the rights of others begins. They do not have the right to inhibit safe passage to and from businesses for days on end. They have no right over privately owned property. Like many protests of this nature, the danger is that they will hit the wrong target, hurting others like themselves and doing nothing to those they wish to protest against.
The essential rule of a civil society, your right to swing your arm around ends where my nose begins.

I wouldn’t call liberalism a cancer. Mental disorder, maybe. 😃
One form of mental disorder is trying to believe in two contradictory positions as simultaneously true…like…that life begins at conception AND that a woman has an unmitigable right to end her pregnancy.

My local paper had a story of how 20 OWS protesters were arrested over the week-end for camping out on public park and violating the curfew that has been in place for the park.

One of the protesters, a young woman of 19 years of age, said that she will do it again in order to get the message out.

With that I had to ask myself, what sort of wisdom and live experience does a 19 year old have, that the rest of society should be following?

This woman hasn’t even held a job long enough to compare to those who worked to provide her and her peers their educations and standard of living that is still better than most of the world.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the messagea against corporate and political greed, but it doesn’t require shutting down the city to get the message out further.

It reminded me of the 60’s protest where students took over universities to protest what the universities taught.

I thought being a student meant you were still in the learning process, not an expert on issues of life?

Anyway, the OWS seems to be on the down turn, as mayors in the various cities have had about enough and want the areas cleaned up before the Christmas shopping season begins.

Right. The kids have had their fun during the protracted Woodstock. The grown-ups have to clean up and get back to work.

I know of a group of 1970’s era hippies who are still around and pretty much hold the same views they had then. But they have all gone on to get advanced degrees and make a lot of money. I won’t reveal their location as the OWS people might want to “occupy” them for being wealthy hippies!

Interesting observation regarding the 19 year old. There seems to also be an element of narcissism involved with some of these kids.

It’s why it’s important to remain Christ centered, and not get too wrapped up in political groups such as the Tea Party and OWS movements.

I think most people understand the messages from both groups.

Yes, government has to get spending under control and not tax our grandchildren to bankruptcy.

Yes, corporate greed has taken control of our government and nation to the point of infringing on the liberty of the nation as a whole.

However, we also need to remember that we need to care for the elderly and disabled.

We can not suddenly tell people at age 65, that the Social Security System they paid into all of their lives, is not going to be there for them.

We can’t tell the man or woman who just became disabled, that they’ll not have government help, because that would be socialism.

We also can’t tell corporate leaders that they’ll continue to get tax credits when they move their businesses over to China or India, and they’ll no longer be able to deduct the cost for doing business over there, from their taxable incomes here.

Both protest groups began with messages that were calling for balance, but if things go as they did in the 60’s and 70’s protest, they will become imbalanced and only end up serving the greed of the people who take over such protest.

Jim! I know the protest you speak of. You must be somewhere within the same metro area.

I found it interesting that most–if not all-- of the protesters were between 18-25 with a couple in their early 30’s. The city in question is rife with overachiving schools (colleges) where Zuckerberg is recruting. It also has a major drug problems. It will be interesting for christmas break when all these spoiled children go home to mom and dad and no longer live in dorms. It also peeves me that some of these tents are EMS and REI and even LLBEAN…tents worth hundreds, maybe even 1k. and none were produced in America. Great protest, isn’t it???

I do find it interesting that these protests have standing in places where drugs and college students are common.

…Having alot of frustrated males out there with no hope for the future usually means violence somewhere.

From what I have seen from the OWS reports, these males are not that frustrated. They have tents…they are taking their frustrations out.

yep. What scares me even more is that companies are RECRUTING certian graduates.

There is a bill in the house which would allow any forigner with a passport and engenieering degree to become automacally eligibel for a perminate visa and a fasttrack to citizenship. There is also similar calls in some IT fields and most of the medical fields. They literally cannot train nurses fast enough…and even the most basic LPN courses at Grade 13 CC are full to 150% capacity 2 YEARS in advance.

It disgusts me to no limit that in this ecomomy we are handing out jobs to forigners because little Johnny wanted to get a 200k art degree.

Or English?

To date there have been at least four reported rapes and at least one attempted rape at these “occupy” encampments. Two of the victims were at the main Wall Street encampment and say they were urged not to report the attacks to the authorities.
Rapes also reportedly occurred at encampments in Dallas and Cleveland.

Now a fourth rape victim reports being raped at the Occupy Baltimore encampment. The victim say that other members of the encampment are protecting the perpetrator to avoid bad publicity for the movement. A reporter also finds masked thugs and evidence of heroin use at the Occupy Baltimore squatter camp. A leader for Occupy Baltimore laughs while admitting that the group urges it’s followers to conceal information about crimes committed at the encampment.

Are there any ‘real leaders’ out there who can stop this? Or do we have just craven politicians who are afraid to bring the hammer down?

I’m not talking about Fascism, Communism, or anything like that. What I’m saying is that we have no leaders today who have spine! There are none who will bring any civilized order to our streets, so that ordinary people who are trying to work and provide for themselves and their families can do so.

It’s not that politicians don’t have a spine, it’s that most of them are self-serving to the point of always trying to appease or appeal to whom they think represent the largest number of voters to get them re-elected.😦

Does the term “Agents Provocateur” mean anything to any of you?
