=po18guy;6921066]Noted anti-Catholic Church Smith, of course. I see that he is guilty of private interpretation of scripture (prohibited in 2 Peter 1:20), twisting it to justify his practice of faith. He chooses not to deny himself, but to deny the original meaning of scripture, the original form of the Church, in his attempt to follow Christ. Mr. Smith lacks a sense of gratitude, in that, if there were no Simon Peter (and his successors), there would be no bible!
I recently heard a Prebyterian minister claim that Jesus’ disciples left him in John 6:66 because they knew the crucifixion was coming! What? That is so warped as to almost defy description.
Ah, but it was Peter, wasn’t it, who said that Paul’s words, as well as the other scriptures, were distorted by the ignorant and unstable, to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16). Now, if your faith community is formed via private interpretation of scripture, you must degrade Peter as leader. But, in doing so, you go directly against Christ.
The sad truth is Protestants can only exist by misinterputing the bible. If they actaully accepted Gods Words [2 Tim. 3:16-17, ] and understood what they were reading; they would HAVE to be Catholic!

John 14: 16-17 And I [Jesus] will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you." [Written By Catholics For Catholics… no other religions were in existence yet!]

2 Tim. 4: 3-5 " For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

2 Tim. 1: “13-14 Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.”

John 17:14-19 "I [Jesus] have given them [the Apostles] thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; [And the Will of Jesus is always DONE]thy word is truth. As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I [JESUS] consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.

Matt. 16:19

**[19] I [Jesus] will give you [Peter] the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." **

Like the great message before me: Denying Peter is Denying Jesus Christ. How do you deal with that?

Love and prayers,
Pat

Denying Peter is denying Christ? No one takes the place of the Son of God. You are trying to put Peter in Jesus’ place. Christ went to the cross not Peter or for that matter Mary the mother of Jesus. Even if the Roman Catholic Church is the oldest of all the Churches, it does not mean that it hasn’t strayed from the truth of God’s Word. The Corinthians and Galatians had direct access to Jesus’ Apostles and still they strayed away from the truth. Read the Scriptures completely and then look up and see what’s going on in the Catholic Chruch and you’d understand why there was a separation. We as Christians who hold to the truth in God’s word couldn’t continue in the Catholic Church’s teachings and practices that are contrary to the Word of God.

What is your authority for privately interpreting scripture?

Are you denying the Word of God? Jesus says to the apostles and the 70 (72) that He chose:
Yes absolutely that is true even to this day. Those who reject the Gospel of Jesus Christ do reject Christ himself. That is what Jesus is saying to His disciples in Luke 10. And it is still true to this day. If anyone is preaching the good news of Jesus Christ and somebody is not willing to listen is rejecting Christ. That passage says that. And we do NOT reject the Gospel of Christ. We proclaim it. And that is what Jesus sent His Apostles out to do, to preach the good news of Christ. So we are not denying the word of God. We do not reject Peter. He was an Apostle of Christ! Peter and Paul and all of the Apostles preached the true Gospel of Christ and we have accepted and received the good news. The problem is with Roman Catholic teaching that has added on to the Gospel by worship of the Saints (which you call intercessory prayer to downplay it) and the exaltation of Mary as another Savior beside Christ. That is what we reject. We cannot accept it. You know that when Paul and Peter and the original Apostles were preaching and proclaiming the Gospel it did not include all these other things that the Roman Catholic Church has added to it. The early Church in the days of Peter and Paul did not look like the Roman Catholic Church of today and of centuries after them with all the carved images of the Saints everywhere. If the Apostles saw what the Roman Catholic Church would become centuries later they would rebuke the Church themselves. Cornelius tried to bow down and reverence Peter and Peter made him get up (Acts 10:24-26). Men tried to exalt Paul and worship him in Lystra and he shouted to them: 15"Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them." Acts 14:15
John the Apostle tried to bow down before the angel when He was receiving the Revelations and even the angel made him get up and told not to do it and to worship only God (Revelation 22:8-9).
The Apostles in their days directed everyone not to worship them in any kind of way but to worship God, and it is true today.
Paul wrote to the Galatians and warned them not to follow other false gospels other than the one the Apostles had preached to them: 6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Galatians 1:6-9
In their days the Gospel was Christ and Him crucified and nothing else: 1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2
22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:22-24
2As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ,” he said. 4Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women. Acts 17:2-4
This is the true Gospel.
So we are not rejecting the true Gospel or the Lord’s Apostles, because of them (most importantly the Holy Spirit who inspired them to write) we have Scripture and will hold on to it.

What is your authority for privately interpreting scripture?
Privately interpreting Scripture? Let’s talk about private interpretation. The Lord has given us His word. The word was meant for all who believe in the name of Jesus Christ. The word is clear to understand and no man needs another man to tell him what the bible is saying or what God “really means”. Because Christ and His Apostles have already made clear what is written in the Old Testament and New Testament. They gave us the interpretation of Scripture. Everything we need to know is written in the bible.

19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:19-21

We are not privately interpreting Scripture. We are reading what the Apostles wrote and made clear already.
The Roman Catholic Church took Scriptures and held them captive for many centuries hundreds of years ago. They wanted to be the only ones to interpret Scripture in their own way. It’s still true today. They believe they are the only ones who can properly interpret Scripture and as a result you have false teachings. What did the RCC do when people began printing bibles in other languages other than Latin? Didn’t they threaten people with death if they were found to have a bible? Didn’t they burn men who translated the bible to other languages? Their way of damage control was to go on the offensive and threaten people and even kill some people. The RCC has been responsible for many horrible things done to those who dared question them, to true Christians who would obey only God and not men. Where in the New Testament did the Apostles or Jesus command the RCC to do those things? Nowhere. Never.

Some examples of the RCC false teachings that I’m speaking about:

Priests being called “father”. In context Jesus is speaking of titles that men love to be called by. 6 They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, 7 greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ 8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. Matthew 23:6-10

Forbidding to marry and eating of certain foods. Why is it that priests cannot marry? Why can’t Catholics eat meat during Lent? 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:1-5…

…Putting tradition before the word of God. The same mistake the Pharisees and the Jews made, the RCC is also making. Scripture was written for us to learn from Israel’s history:
11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 1 Corinthians 10:11
We know what the Lord Jesus told the Pharisees about putting tradition before God’s commands: 1Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!"
3Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ 5But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’ 6he is not to ‘honor his father’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8” ‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9They worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men.’" Matthew 15:1-9

It’s because of RCC tradition that many practices that are contrary to the word of God are allowed. The Pharisees also abandoned God’s commands to follow their own tradition. In fact there was a time when Israel didn’t have God’s word anymore. They were completely following traditions not knowing they had strayed so far away from God and sinned against Him until Josiah renewed the Covenant when the book of the Law was found (2 Kings 22-23). When Josiah heard the words of the Book of the Law, he repented immediately without thinking about it for a minute. He knew that they had sinned against the Lord and he didn’t try to justify it by their traditions: 11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes. 12 He gave these orders to Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Acbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king’s attendant: 13 “Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD’s anger that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.” 2 Kings 22:11-13

Because Josiah repented before the Lord, the Lord was merciful to him: 18 Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: 19 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people, that they would become accursed and laid waste, and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. 20 Therefore I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.’ " 2 Kings 22:18-20

The RCC has Scripture unlike Josiah and the Jews. It would be better to be in Josiah’s place and repent when the word is made known to us, than to know the word and not obey it and not repent of our sins. We need to be like Josiah and repent and turn to Christ.

Denying Peter is denying Christ? No one takes the place of the Son of God. You are trying to put Peter in Jesus’ place. Christ went to the cross not Peter
If Jesus appointed Peter and his successors as leaders of the Church, then to deny Peter is to deny Christ. You have pointed us to the Petros/petra canard as disproving the appointement of Peter (which it does only to the satisfaction of people who don’t know anything about languages). This does not hold water as has been pointed out and as is agreed by many Protestant scholars.
If there were only 2 churches then scriptural interpretation, independent of the Catholic Church, might hold water but there are many thousands of ‘Scriptural Christian’ denominations who cannot agree on correct intepretation on the most basic matters e.g. necessity of Baptism, infant baptism, once saved always saved, the Trinity, nature of the Eucharist, tongues, the rapture, nature of/need for church government, etc, etc, etc.
Do you believe that God intended for us not to have a reliable authority to decide these matters or did He intend Protestant chaos to represent His Church.
How did the Christians decide on anything during the centuries prior to the Church making its infallible decision (as you are obliged to admit) on the Canon of the New Testament?

It seems to me that you go against the bible. The bible tells us that it needs authoritative interpretation. Please read Nehemiah 8:8 and Acts 8:27-31. If you are superior to Ezra or to the Apostle Philip, I will believe your interpretation. Peter teaches that no scriptural prophecy is of any private interpretation in 2 Peter 1:20. I would guess that all three teachings are in your bible, too. IMO, to interpret for yourself, to your own satisfaction, is to be lead astray by a passing spirit.

If the OP was Catholic, he would be a heretic. As it is, he’s just wrong.

One Time, you must understand that there are two large barriers between Catholics and non-Catholic churches:
  1. The Church is the bride of Christ. To follow Christ, while denying His Church (the Bride), is like telling your best friend, “Let’s go out to eat, but don’t bring your wife because I can’t handle being around her”. You can maintain that friendship, but there’s a hole in it. Something is missing. Catholics love the Bride as well as the Groom. We can’t separate the two, for they are One.
  2. You guys don’t understand what goes on in the Mass, and you have let that go. Catholics celebrate the Eucharist just like the 1st century Church did. It was (and is) a Sacrifice. That’s gone from your church services and its a huge hole.

I am constantly amazed by the fact that if the bible leads us to different beliefs, it is always, 100% of the time, the Catholic Church that is wrong. This is a telling fact, but not for the reason that the OP thinks.

It is like the wise teenager telling Gramps all about life. 😃

**1. Jesus speaking directly too Saint Peter: **
Matt.16: 19 “I [ESUS] will give [and DID give] you [Peter] the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

So friend it is Jesus Himself who places PETER in the Role of Jesus!

**2. For the sake of truth and clarity **
Peter too was Crucified and asked to be crucified upside down as he felt unworthy to dulplcate Christ crucifixtion. He likeall th Apostles except for John who was boiled alive but survived gave there very lifes in BRUTAL ways as evidene of there faith and belief in Jesus!

And yes all Salvation FLOWS through Jesus Christ; BUT it is God’s Desire and God’s Will that His One Church; His One Faith [please read Eph.4:4-7] flow through His One Church.
[There are in excess of 100 NT references to JUST ONE FAITH, One Church] an even secualr historians prove that it is thee church we know today as the CC.

**3 As for straying from the truth, from Jesus: **

Your being too kind. Wht about udas, one of the twelve?

Frind in EVERY GENERATION THERE ARE sAINTS, SAINTS AND SINNERS. It was true when Jesus was on earth and every gereration in the OT, NT and current times.

Might I suggest your time might be better spent worrying about your own salvation.

Friend are you aware of what the bible actually says on this topic of the CC Teaching thee TRUTH?

2Tim.3 Verses 16 to 17

"All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

PLEASE READ THESE VRS. IN THE LIGHT OF TRUTH: THE CC IS THEE BIBLE CHURCH

The CC assembled the books of the OT
The CC authored th entire NT
Therefore the CC warants the title usurped by others as the “Bible Curch.”
When the Bible Ot was collected
When the NT was written
When he Canon of th Bible was firmly set and APPROVED BY GOD Himself
The ONLY Christian Church was todays Catholic Church

Christ Himself proclaims Her truth, PROTECTS Her Teachings Forever, Gives Himself in randsom fo Her Eternal Truth…

**John 14: 16-17 ** And I Jesus] will pray the Father, which was imediately accomplished] and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.

Friend Jesus is talking about you and those like you here.:o

Jesus praying to The Father about His Apostles:

John 17:14-20

I [Jesus] have given them thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one. * They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Frind this is Jesus Himself who says what the CC teaches and holds as the truth;IS THE TRUTH WITH GOD HIMSELF MAKING THE PROMISE.

Show us where in the Bible that this Covenant of Blood is violated:shrug: You can’t so the taches of the CC remain thee ingulr truths.

And because you sare sooooo knowledgeable: please point out a few of theses CC tachings NOT in the word of God.

THANKS!

God willing he’ll allow us to show him how to use it properly:shrug:

The OP came here, like many others, confident that he could easily educate us all about the errors of Catholicism, but he originally came here with one point, ‘the office of Pope’, he then realised that we had firm Scriptural responses to that one and then resorted to an
indiscriminate ‘scattergun’ approach damning all things Catholic.
Let’s hope he decides to properly study the Catholic Church’s beliefs and raises them, point by point, so that we can debate things logically and with a maintained single topic.

These so called traditions you speak of only but highlight your misunderstanding of scripture and highlight your traditions that were handed down by men. Men like Luther, Calvin etc who were not sent to teach. Rom 10:15 "And how can they preach unless they are sent?” These so called men sent themselves. Even Paul who had a divine private revelation made sure that his doctrine was the same as the apostles that’s why he went to see Peter and were then sent. (Acts 15)

As for our so called traditions. You first must understand that there is nothing wrong with traditions within the Christian church and whatever these traditions are it must be written and oral. “Hold fast to the traditions whether written or by word of mouth (oral)” (2 thess 2:15)

Call no man father. Here Jesus uses what is called as a Rabbinic Hyperbole where an exaggeration is made to emphasise a point. In this case it is not to think of or place a man above God. This same tone of language is used in Matt 18:8 “So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot”. If Jesus meant this literally then he was not a great example when he called Abraham Father in Luke 16:24. Or even MATTHEW 23:30 – “And say, if we had been in the days of OUR FATHERS”. Also when Paul did the same thing in calling Abraham “Our father” in Rom 4. Or when Paul addressed Timothy as his Spiritual “Father” (Phil 2:22, 1 Cor 4:15). Paul called those leaders inside the Church teachers “And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers.” (1 cor 12:28)

As for eating. Did not Jesus Fast in the desert? Did not Paul and the apostles fast (acts 13:2, acts 14:23, 2 cor 11:23-30). Jesus condemns these practices when they are ritualized for the sake of men looking just towards other men when they have no inner righteousness. That is what we call lip service. During lent the church fasts together and those who only do it for the sake of tradition it has no benefit for them.

I still don’t know of any relegious order that gets places of honor during mass time like the pharisees.

OneTime,

That was a great series of posts. But all it shows is that you are quite adept at Cutting-n-Pasting. It would be polite of you to site your source when you rip things from somewhere else and post them here.

Somewhere in your ramblings, I seem to recall a comment that some of the man-made traditions of the Catholic Church was justification for the Reformers to split away. I hope you are not offended by the term ramblings, but that’s all they can be called because the original author obviously has no clue of what he is talking about when he discusses the Catholic Church.

I want to bring up a similar scenario to your “justified” Reformation:

In 1st Kings (and Chronicles), we see Jeroboam breaking the 10 northern tribes away from Judah (and Benjamin). They seemed to be justified because Rehoboam bragged that he was going to be harsher on the northern tribes than his father Solomon, taxing them even more and doing just whatever he pleased.

It wasn’t very long, however, before Jeroboam instituted changes in the Israelite way of worshipping, placing two golden calves at Dan and Bethel and claiming that these were the gods of Israel, who had led them out of Egypt. During all this time, God kept His Covenant with the Kingdom of David, through the tribe of Judah.

I see an incredible case of “deja vu” in the Protestant Reformation. Where are your altars? Where are your priests? Where is the Sacrament of Confession and the Eucharist? You guys have done what you thought was correct and then went off into 100’s (if not 1000’s) of different directions.

Don’t you see what happens when you leave the Catholic Church? Are you proud of this dismantling of the Bride?
