Of course it’s fair game to talk about orthodoxy, but the Church leaders have been using that and culture war issues to avoid engaging the real and pressing problems of abuse. It’s rather like calling an office staff meeting to reinforce dress code policy while the building is on fire. No, I don’t believe the abuse in any way had to do with some ambiguity about Church teachings on sexuality. For most of the time when that abuse occurred in Ireland, it was just about the most straightlaced and un-sexually liberated society in the western world. These priests and brothers who abused didn’t just get swept up in the abandon of Haight-Asbury. This was about abuse of power, the kind of abuse that occurs 100% of the time in all human endeavors when one class of human beings has near absolute power over another and no accountability or transparency for their own actions.
If those Priests had chosen to remaon true to the faith, would the horrific acts have happened? That really is the bottom line.

The Church’s own arrogant men have wounded your organization in a way that Stalin, Hitler and Mao never could.
Hi.
Why is the Church in Ireland still alive today?
Why do families still throng churches during First Communion and Confirmation?
The reality is that, despite your wish that Satan could have control, there are enough good men to ensure he does not and never will.
Your three amigos have inflicted more deaths upon humanity than a thousand churches could ever do. And they revelled in it.
So we come back to the numbers of good men who were active in the Church.
When we consider them and the work of the Holy Spirit we will begin to see this debate in a new light. This is a light that the media here in Ireland are loathe to expose because it does not fit in with their anti-Catholic stance.
And I’m glad that you at least acknowledge that the people here are not foolish. Why? Because they value Faith.
God Bless the Irish Catholic Church,
Colmcille.

Thank you kenofken for giving us a glimpse into how Inquisitions begin.

Anyone that tells the truth about what has happened in Ireland is anti-Catholic?

I hate to tell those that have their heads in the sand, but in Ireland, abuse was done by virtually every Catholic Order, by Dioscean Priests, by various orders of brothers, sisters and by Catholic lay employees.

It was NOT primarily done by Christian Brothers, whoever is spreading that is contr9buting to the problem

Denying that this has been a MAJOR problem, and that all of the Bishops in Ireland helped to cover it up does nothing but perpetuate the problem.

It REALLY happened. Orphans were horribly abused, both males and females. They were sexually abused by both males and females that had taken vows of celibacy. They were physical;ly and emotionally abused by these same people.

Parish priests were also molesting and abusing children.

This is a VERY real scandal, and you only have to read the Irish Press to become informed about it. I have family in Ireland, and they have kept me well informed of these scandals (I am the only Catholic in the family).

Denying it, pretending that only one community did it, pretending that the Bishops, and the heads of various religious communities did not cover all of this up does nothing at all. It really happened, and it has horribly affected the people of Ireland.

Religious of all types held a special place in Ireland. No longer! And the anger, the disillusion and the hatred are all completely appropriate.

Why do you think the Pope has cracked down on these people?

Please, get your heads out of the sand and acknowledge this horrible evil that was done to thousands of innocent children.

This will likely bankrupt the Irish church. They will be selling off convents, churches, monasteries and many 9ther things to pay the financial damages. Per capita, the problem in Ireland is about 300 times worse than it was in the USA.

I don’t know, dude. Anyone who would say such a thing regardless of the evidence is likely to be branded as a sympathizer of Satan, Hitler, Stalin or Mao (or perhaps all four). Or worse, a member of the “liberal media”!

Hi.
Thank you!
Thank you for helping my argument!
Please study and research the agenda of the press in Ireland. You agree it is a business, yes? Good. And what dives business? Profit. Little things like truth don’t matter.
Why is the Church still alive in Ireland? The Holy Spirit.
God Bless the Irish Catholic Church,
Colmcille.

Hi.
It is pointless trying to conduct a debate with you as you do not recognise the Holy Trinity.
Keep up your selective reading. It narrows the mind wonderfully.
God Bless the Irish Catholic Church,
Colmcille.
