Once known as a bulwark of Catholicism in central Europe, Austria is now nothing more than the poster boy of Our Lady of Akita.
In a telephone survey conducted by Austrian broadcaster ORF, 51% of the 500 priests surveyed were in favor of the ordination of women to the Catholic priesthood, despite the Church’s definitive pronouncement that this is a theological impossibility.
In 1994, Pope John Paul II said, “I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful.”
