she mentioned that in Guilty

i wish more people listened to her… and when i first saw the cover of one of her books i was turned off… I still don’t know why she has to dress that way… One would never guess (i didn’t anyhow) that she was much more than … well, hate to say this but … a bimbo or something… I was really shocked when i found out how intelligent and infomred she is… and how much sense she makes… S
She is on the right side of the debate. Obviously premarital sex is wrong…and the Sexual Revolution has got to be undone. But she needs to realize that the sexual revolution isn’t just having sex. It is also the clothing, sleazy ads, etc. She should not be harshly criticizing others in regards to the sexual revolution when she herself is dressing herself in a sexual way…get your facts straight Ann!! She has the right ideas, but she has to apply them to herself too…or else she is just like all the other famous people that say one thing but do another.

She is on the right side of the debate. Obviously premarital sex is wrong…and the Sexual Revolution has got to be undone.
But is that “the” debate? Or is that just one debate? Or one aspect of the debate? Or even just one aspect of one debate?

Another debate is whether people who behave in irresponsible and self-destructive ways (indeed, ways which harm others as well as themselves, as Coulter rightly points out) are still worthy of our love and respect because they are made in God’s image and have been redeemed by the blood of Christ. I think that’s a much more important debate, because our response to the sexual revolution as Christians should be shaped by our belief in human dignity. Because we are made in God’s image and redeemed by Christ’s blood, the reduction of human personhood to the search for sexual fulfillment is degrading. But since Coulter makes no recognition of the dignity of single mothers, I can’t see that she’s on the right side of the debate where it matters most. I can’t see that her reasons for her (correct) condemnation of premarital sex are basically Christian ones.

over and over again, we women knowingly get involved with men who will not make good dads or husbands…it is irresponsible of us to have sex outside of marriage to a decent, wholesome man.
I agree with Anne. We women must be more discerning in who we allow into our lives. Anne maybe hard in her delivery, but she is absolutely correct in what she says.

In my opinion, the more unwed mothers are vilified, the better off we will be as a society. So let’s loudly proclaim it to be shameful and irresponsible behavior as we did in the past, instead of treating it with acceptance and even glorification. Unwed motherhood needs to be discouraged for the benefit of all.

Coulter is a hack in a similar vein to Michael Savage. I can’t believe people support these cons by purchasing their material. You do realize that they’re making big money to spew hate?

I don’t see it that way. She’s way better looking than any of those Democrat talking heads.
Well I wasn’t referring to her physical beauty but her remarks, demeanor and attitude. Beauty, as they say, is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I think she’s very unattractive and looks anorexic but that’s beside the point. I think her personality leaves much to be desired. That doesn’t mean she isn’t right about many issues however. I’ve actually seen some very attractive Democratic ladies on CNN or what have you but, again, looks are immaterial to me here. If we’re talking Barney Frank, I’m with ya! LOL

Thank God for people like yourself. We need less Catholics like johnmagum. You are right, Ann Coulter and others like her are spewing hate. Im shocked that so many Christians here support her, when she acts so un-Christian. Whenever we see someone doing something we dont like, we forget that God said to hate the sin not the sinner and ‘‘he who is without sin cast the first stone’’, at least i think thats how it goes.

By the way, I was raised by a single mother. She chose it, and Im so very happy she did considering the father I have. I have no ‘‘issues’’ with the world whatsoever and she has given me a good life. If ever I have been made unhappy it has been by people who call my mother a sinner by insulting all single mothers and those who believe Im ‘‘doomed’’ for life. You all dont know me, but if you did you d see that my life has been pretty great. Sometimes I think that all these so-called Christians Ive come across would rather I have had an unhappy life, just so it could be an ‘‘example’’ against single motherhood.

Example: “There is no better example of phony victims who are actually victimizers than single mothers. We’re not living in Dickensian England, with husbands dropping like flies from cholera, plague [etc] creating blameless single mothers… We have ‘single mothers’ because more than a million women choose to have children out of wedlock every year in America, and do not then wed or give the babies up for adoption. By their own choices, they consign their children to starting life with second-class status.”

I agree with that, except for the 1st line…
The first and the last line go hand in hand. Shes saying in the first sentance, that single moms are not victims, but victimizers (implying what? their children are the victims). The last line shes saying that they victimize their children by condemning them to second class status.

sooo…children of single mothers are second class?? yes, a single mother has a disadvantage of only ONE parental unit. thats half the possible income. half the possible parental supervision…half the…yeah yeah i get it…

what about the who knows HOW many families, where there ARE two parents…and the one is totally irresponsible and WONT work? or CANT work? or, families where one parent is always traveling, idk…i guess those children are first class tho just because they can say their parents are ‘together’…

idk im a single mom, and ive been that single mom on ‘welfare’ (not jesus). i absolutely agree its a position i put myself in. but i always watch my kid. i work and take care of my kid…and my kid has a GOOD life…in fact better than a lot of kids i see (sad fact). she always has EVERYTHING she needs…and if your mind is going (well she doesnt have a father) well you can stop because, guess what, she does. just because im a single mother doesnt mean that my kid doesnt have a father, or the male authoritative figure how ever you wanna say, in her life.

oooh that irks me… ‘second class’…im so frekn sure…

i wonder if someones husband dies…and now the mother is ‘single’ with a single source of income… are the kids automatically bumped to coach?

I haven’t heard either of these folk spout hatred.I agree with most of what they say, but think they hurt themselves & the causes they espouse when they go over the top.(Michael Savage goes over the top right into the Twilight Zone sometimes but he’s still entertaining.)

I think its the ‘shock factor’…like in the example above, shes right, totally right that single moms should know what theyre getting themselves into…sex has consequences…but going as far to say their kids are ‘second class’…its like, she had it, but had to push it a little further…

yes, i agree with most of what she says, but her tact is VERY UNCHRISTIAN…

No one’s “second class” in a Christian perspective, every child is precious in God’s eyes & all human life is sacred. But in the cruel, secular world, a child born into poverty with no dad often does not have much of a chance to live a first class life. It’s unfair, but a sad fact of life.
My son had a classmate in his high school last year who was 15 or 16 years old & she already had 2 babies. His previous 6th Gr. teacher got a job teaching pregnant middle school girls-12 years old & up.There were enough in the school system to warrant a full time teacher.
Saying that these kids & their babies already have several strikes against them & a diminished chance of living “first class” lives may be un-Christian, but in the practical sense per statistics, it’s true.(I personally hope they beat the odds.)🙂

I don’t know your definition of “better off.”

Perhaps we will be richer, stronger, more hard-working, busier.

Perhaps we will even be more virtuous in certain pagan ways.

But we will not be more virtuous in the Christian sense, which involves the transformation of our beings by the fire of God’s love.

what you define as hate others define as the hard truth…
sometimes people gotta tell it like it is…and it isn’t always easy to accept the truth because it hurts.
i think it offensive to anne to say she is spewing hate. she is attempting to give her opinion. are her words hard?? YES!! but i think it is because she is passionate about the subject, as well as outraged at the present situation.
dont write off peoples views as always meaning to be hateful

Distracted,

Perhaps you are coming to see why some of us respond so badly to Ms. Coulter. This is an excellent example.

Now, in order to be fair to her, let me say that there is a kernel of truth to what she’s saying. Some elements of our society do glorify single parenthood in a way that plays down the importance of marriage and the two-parent family. So I see what she’s going after. But I think there’s more wrong with her approach than a lack of “bedside manner.” She has embraced an ideology that glorifies individualism, hard work, prudent choices, and is willing to punish and shame those who don’t live up to these values in the interest of creating a strong, self-controlled, prosperous society. And this basic ideological stance isn’t just a bit harsh. It’s fundamentally evil by the standards of the Gospel. It is a classic example of scapegoating. As Christians, we follow and worship the One who became the “scapegoat,” who took our sins upon Himself and suffered outside the city walls, where the refuse of society is thrown. Whatever Ann Coulter says about single mothers (if it is not said in the spirit of charity, helping them see their errors and live godly lives) she is saying about Jesus. She is quite literally committing blasphemy.

Furthermore, as Christians we are called to believe in original sin. The line between good and evil runs not between societies or individuals but within them. In its simplest form, “it’s not my brother or my sister, but it’s me, O Lord.” That doesn’t mean that she has no legitimate points. But she not only drowns out her legitimate points by her excessive rhetoric, but far more seriously she puts those legitimate points in a fundamentally evil and anti-Christian ideological context.

Edwin
you make a very interesting point. 👍

you are probably right. i shouldn’t stereotype and there are some women who might start out on welfare, but not remain on it. but there are some that perhaps have kids just to get the welfare.
normally this wouldn’t be a good thing to say… but I’ll say it…

at least they are having children…

people with $$ are NOT… and again, the Muslims are going to take over by sheer numbers some day…

I sometimes think it is far less a sin to have children when on welfare (if married) than it is for people to claim they are Catholic (people who have $$) and yet have only 1 or 2 children…

Catholics are living like the secular people… you can’t even tell the difference between Catholics and non-Catholics anymore… no big families anymore, to speak of…

but then Jesus did say there are few who find that narrow road to eternal life… that is the only scripture passage, it seems, that explains all the sinful stuff going on in the world… in the Church (!!)

frankly, i don’t think its hard to find the narrow road… or at least not hard to SEE it… It is hard to CHOOSE that road…and hard to KEEP choosing it… it is hard to stay on it…

maybe that’s what He meant… (don’t mean to argue with Jesus Christ Himself… FOR SURE!!!  :hypno:)

anyway… if the Muslims take over, don’t blame the welfare mothers…

I’ve never heard her say anything like this… that welfare children are 2nd class…

I’ve read several of her books…

You and I must have different definitions of “hate” if you think that you have never heard either of them spew it.

Well we might could, but maybe you could give an example? I don’t listen to either of them on a regular basis.Perhaps I’ve missed something.

You just can’t be serious…just can’t be. So you have to have ten kids to be a good person? Please, I’m never having kids, and I have free time and money to do what I want. I think that a lot of the people who call me selfish and terrible are just secretly jealous. Why else would you even concern yourself with the amount of kids that others have? You honestly think that growing up in a welfare situation is better than a financially stable one? I come from a small family, and I was pretty privileged. I’m thankful that my parents didn’t have a bunch of kids, which could have caused us to struggle. Your rude comments about Muslims aren’t even worth my time.

I The Dems are a one-trick pony: GOVERNMENT…the GOP is a one-trick horsey too: STATUS QUO
