Stewed tomatoes. I still can’t touch a tomato unless it is pulverized into paste/sauce. When we went to my aunt’s in South Philly she always made mashed potatoes (yum), chicken cutlets (yum), biscuits (yum), green beans (yum) and. . .stewed tomatoes. And I would always have to eat ONE spoonful. . .and I would always throw up. After a while I learned to eat the tomatoes, throw up, and then have the rest of the food instead of having the good stuff and then. . .ahem. . .‘losing’ it. I honestly tried; I used to cry my eyes out and I swore I didn’t mean to get sick, but every single time. . .
In fact, I never ate pizza until I was 18 years old and in Vermont because pizza places in Philly made their pizza sauce with crushed or stewed tomatoes and. . .well, you guessed it. In Vermont they made SMOOTH sauce. I haven’t been back to taste Philly pizza but that’s OK, I make my own anyway now.
