I was reading a very right-wing politically slanted newspaper article on the Synod. Essentially it was a biased view about the results of the Synod. The author twisted the facts to suggest that Pope Frances is well supported.
Of course he is well supported, he is the Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God! We have to get it out of our heads that he is some elected official sitting in Washington that we can vote out of office. The bishops understand this, I don’t know if all the faithful do.
This is a very dangerous situation because it could result in splits in the Church, and loss of membership.
I seriously doubt that. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.
Your statement above reveals that the Synods are very political, and suspicious people would think that Pope Frances is stacking future Synods with people who will support his beliefs.
Synods may be political, but they are advisory only and what they recommend can and sometimes is, ignored by the Holy Father.
In my opinion, Pope Frances does not consider world culture, or the reputation of the Church in the world.
The Holy Father, unlike a number in the curia, has lived in the trenches. He has ministered to the poor as well as the middle class. He knows the pains and troubles that lay Catholics have. He has also interacted with world leaders.
Otherwise, he would realize that the world has become very authoritarian since the 2008 economic crash, and he would also consider that the world has lost respect for the Church
because of the financial and sexual abuse scandals of the Church.
I think he understands world culture and the reputation of the Church in the world quite well. Why do you think he is redoing the curia, the Vatican Bank, telling bishops to stop living so ‘high on the hog’ and why he is slamming the book down on clerics who stray from their vow of celibacy?
Authoritarianism is needed in the world, and within the Church to promote change, to purge the corruption with fire.
see above
Pope Frances is promoting humanism (law of nature) at a time when the world has the opposite culture of authoritarianism (law of power). He’s a great man, but his vision is at wrong time.
Pope Francis promotes God’s law which includes natural law. He is teaching us to keep our eyes on the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I love the Church, and I’m very concerned about it, and I pray for it. In my opinion, if the Church continues to promote humanist theology, within the next ten years, we could be in very big trouble because the world is authoritarian, and very secular because of world corruption and corruption in the Church. I f we promote humanist theology at this time we shall surely pay price.
Pope Francis is nothing like a humanist, he’s a Catholic.
Same to you John, relax a bit.
