How do you avoid a confrontation when the person jumps out of the bushes and attacks you?
By not being there in the first place

Don’t join neighborhood watch
Don’t report suspicious persons to the police
Don’t try to obtain the information the dispatcher is asking you for
Don’t get involved.

Get in your car. Get your groceries. Don’t stick your neck out for nobody.

He didn’t need to get out of his car to talk to Martin, did he?

In fact, he told police that, that wasn’t his job. But it was his job to see where Martin was going.
No it wasn’t. It was something he was doing in the very foolish notion of community service and looking out for his neighbors. Trying to obtain the information about where this suspicious person was headed that the dispatcher had asked him for. ETA: (next sentence pure speculation) Maybe even remembering the mom who was home with her kid during a hot prowl in a prior incident.

And eassily checked: the fact that Zimmerman had been asked by a previous dispatcher if he could get to where he could see the person Zimmerman had called in about.

But he wasn’t a neigbhourhood watch that night, he had a gun. Can you be a neighbourhood watch and carry a gun at the same time?

I don’t know Florida law regarding any limitations on neighborhood watch, or the policy.

However, Florida is shall issue concealed carry state which recognizes that their law abiding citizens have not just the legal right to self-defense, but the legal right to the means (handguns) for self-defense providing they meet the requirements of the statute. Again, not familiar with Florida law but I think there is a fee, background check and training requirements for CCW. Someone else may know.

Neighborhood watch in my area means we are trained. We have eyes posted on trees to show people they are in a neighborhood that is trained to watch for suspicious activity. In Missouri, you may carry a concealed weapon, after training. I could walk around with one in my purse in the grocery store if I wanted to.

Yep. Snitches get stitches. One of the basic credos of urban living. Sounds like Z didn’t get the memo on the appropriate level of submissiveness to display to ne’er-do-wells prowling around your neighborhood.

What bushes?
The bushes Martin came out of when he attacked Zimmerman. The ones identified by the NY Times. The ones Zimmerman said Martin was in. The ones the prosecution has not claimed don’t exist. Are you saying you know something the prosecution does not know?

Are those the bushes that Serino was referring to where the burglary tool (slim jim) was found ‘a few days’ after the incident?

The Prosecution did indeed focus at quite length on the inconsistencies in Zimmerman’s statements of which one was the bushes. None were in the spot of the confrontation.
Also he was unable to tell if Zimmerman jumped out in front of him or from behind .

That’s something very important to know. “Snitches get stiches.” Now for all of those who state they are “too afraid or would not” now be on Neighborhood Watch just make sure after you follow around a "suspect: and shoot him (in self defense of course) You go get stitches (not just a few bandaids.)

You’ve already taught me well MaryT. I’m not afraid, just a realist. I’ve seen the attitude, and this on a catholic forum where I’m assuming folks would tend to be more charitable in considering the motives of others. More vice lessing willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. It’s made me reconsider my willingness to get involved based on how I’ll be condemned after the fact. How my words and actions will be perceived and judged from afar.

Especially if they find your profile at CAF and use it to try to portray you as a defender of MURDERERS!!!

He was speaking to the bushes where there was a burglary tool and never specified a distance. He also said there was no evidence at all that Martin was committing a crime.
He also said that was not tied to this case.

No one has called anyone on this thread a defender of Murderers. Most say we don’t know what happened because one party of the incident, Martin is dead.

Your perception of attitude is in your own mind. I could argue many seem lackluster at the thought someone is dead who was walking home with skittles and an iced tea.
Works both ways but the issue is a man is dead.
Where’s your sympathy for that?
You see how fruitless that argument is don’t you? For you or me to try and judge
the “attitude” and how “someone taught you well”
Don’t give me that much “influence over you.”"

Not only that, back to the case Zimmerman had NO PROBLEM with being on Neighborhood watch, following someone around with a gun.
I openly “admit” I agree that’s poor judgment on Zimmerman’s part.
Probably why the wrongful death suit was settled.

So I took a couple minute break from my lovely July 4th holiday to come by CAF. I see I didn’t miss anything new on this thread.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone 🙂
