Not a fan.

I feel he is strictly following his own agenda and using his office to further that.

Thank you, Sirduckjr, it is a relief to see a voice of reason raised in your country to support ALL of the Catholic teachings. Don’t give up even if you feel like a voice crying in the wilderness. One day I hope ALL of the Catholics of the US will realise that in order to oppose abortion and homosexual “marriage”, you don’t HAVE to support all of the repulsive Republican party policies.

No I’m not going to re-argue the Iraq war. Anyone who still manages to believe it was a good idea, and that there are fewer terrorists around now than there were before 2003, will not be swayed by any rational argument. But it’s very sad that there is such xenophobia that one poster even refuses to visit Canada merely because Canada didn’t think it was right to go to war. Yes there may have been quite a few GOVERNMENTS who agreed to go along with Bush. When a country with the awesome and unprecedented power of the US starts flaying it around and saying “you’re either with us or against us” it’s very tempting to say “we’re with you.” But I have yet to see any poll in any country showing that the PEOPLE supported the war.
The French have always called us ugly Americans and would not even allow us to fly over French airspace when fighting Hitler.
Both these claims leave me speechless. I presume you are talking about the German Nazi puppet government of France from 1940-44. And that you don’t understand “Nous Sommes Tous Americains” – the headlines in France’s biggest selling newspaper (often called left-wing) after 11/9/01.

Bush’s behaviour in the current disaster (his incompetence and lack of compassion for the marginalised of society, the poor, sick, disabled, and black) only reinforces my opinion of him as a leader.

While I may not be happy with everything that Bush has done, I’m atleast glad he has not grabbed ahold of those toxic social policies that has among other things shreaded the family. I do not agree that because he does not promote dependance on the govenment, he has shown a lack of compassion to the marginalized. To me it really hasn’t seemed like the Great Society programs have done a good job moving people from being marginalized to not marginalized.

I am the poster you are talking about. Let me clarify about Canada. Canada is supporting homosexual marriages and persecuting Christians when they speak out against it. It wasn’t just about the war (although that sure doesn’t help). I love the Canadian posters on this forum but I have little use for their government.

You are showing incredible lack of knowledge about Bush and extreme hatred of the man. I doubt very much you will listen to reason but let me cue you in on something.

Bush was the one who contacted the govenor of Louisiana and asked her to have mandatory evacuations. If it wasn’t for him, how many more dead would we have???

Also, there are certain laws that governments have to follow in disasters like this. First local government and then on up the line. The federal govt can’t step in until asked by the state. This is because the state might already have a plan in action and the feds can’t just come in and run ramshod all over it. States’ rights, my friend.

Also, you’re using the race card? Shame on you. Pathetic shame.

Thanks for the clarification but I fail to see how refusing to contact your Canadian “friends” and wanting to reduce the profits of Canadian hotel and restaurant owners etc has any connexion to the policies of the Canadian govt. Logically, if similar govt policies were implemented in your own country you would emigrate!
You are showing incredible lack of knowledge about Bush and extreme hatred of the man.
I don’t see how you deduce that. I clearly said that I gave Bush the benefit of the doubt and judged hiom merely by his actions. I certainly have not shown “hatred”, extreme or otherwise.
I doubt very much you will listen to reason but let me cue you in on something.
Thanks for the charitable vote of confidence. If I have shown any evidence of irrationality, point it out.

If he had taken action six days earlier, how many fewer dead would we have? And when he finally did something the emphasis was not on evacuating people, but on sending in battle-hardened soldiers with orders to shoot to kill. There are some, indeed most, problems that cannot be solved by shooting people.

Anyone else would have said “Damn “states rights”, people’s lives are at stake. Get them out NOW and fix up the bureaucratic legal niceties afterwards.”
Also, you’re using the race card? Shame on you. Pathetic shame.
I see. The person who is a pathetic shameful racist is not the man who neglects those who are poor, sick, disabled, homeless or black, but the one who complains about this happening. Interesting use of projection.

OK you guys!!! Don’t be mean or you’ll get this thread shut down!!! :crying: I haven’t even been here (at these forums) very long and had two good threads ruined already! 😦

I didn’t think you’d listen.

BTW, Bush isn’t racist. :tsktsk: I could go on (believe me. I have a lot to say) but you wouldn’t listen. This conversation is going nowhere. Besides, we’re getting people upset and that’s not necessary.

Wouldn’t that be the official definition of “politician”.

What President hasn’t and isn’t that what discussing the issues in a campaign are all about, their agenda?

God’s Blessings and love,
Ann

How bizarre. I take the trouble to methodically and carefully quote and answer ALL of your accusations and assertions, and you then declare that I “didn’t listen” to you. I guess by “listen to” you mean “agree with”.

Good point Ann, but not ALL politicians are like that, for example this one, and I think they are the sort we should find and support.
With GWB, I feel that his agenda is largely hidden.

If he had taken action six days earlier…then sending in soldiers with shoot-to-kill orders – — from what I’ve heard, wasn’t it the governor who started all that; the democratic governor? Just what I’d heard – can’t prove it, so I’m just suggesting it…

Anyone else would have said damn the states rights…OH MY — If he’d done that, you’d have him strung up for impeachment for violating the sovereign states rights of LA! The streets wouldn’t even be dry yet and he’d be hogtied for “forcing big government down the throat of a poor, afflicted state” – “traipsing all over the constitution so he can look like the savior or La” – I can see the headlines already…

Your past posts indicate that you have already made up your mind about Bush. I have noticed a certain number of people who don’t care about facts. Bush is damned no matter what he does. It is no wonder that there has been a joke for a few years about how everything is Bush’s fault. I gave you a very good example about how things have to run in government or there is even more chaos than there was here. You chose to damn him anyways. I guess Bush should ignore the laws of the land and commonsense.

And then you strongly suggest that Bush is racist!! I didn’t call you racist. Go back and read my post. I said that you were playing the race card. Talk about interesting use of projection!! The fact that the people in New Orleans were mostly black has absolutely nothing to do with it and talk like that divides the country even further. **That is incredibly irresponsible. **You want me to show where you have been irrational? Here is one spot. You also need to read things more closely.

btw, it was the governor who sent in the troops with orders to kill.

Like I have said in another thread, it is getting very hard for me to deal with people (here and elsewhere) who just want to blame Bush for everything. I absolutely believe that President Bush is a devout Christian who is doing what he believes is best for the country. He is not God. He is not King. There are lots of laws to limit what he can do and the procedures for doing the things he can do. This is persecution. Persecution of a Christian? People in general and media in particular always persecute Presidents but this smells like a spiritual war and everyone is caught up in it.

FightingFat,

An ideal is always what we should strive for, but we will not always be given that choice. ex: Bush vs Kerry. As a registered Democrat I heard the solutions that each had for our various problems in the U.S. and chose to vote for the person that I most agreed with in principles and morals and who walked the walk not just talked the talk. I feel that President Bush acts on what he truly believes in. I felt that Sen. Kerry just said what he thought we all wanted to hear. If you look back on President Bush’s time in office you have to see the two great tragedies that he has had to deal with, both of which were not his doing. He has had to deal with the problems caused by both plus try to keep the rest of the country going and still achieve the goals he set down for himself. Both challenges that he has had to deal with are completely unprecedented plus the fact that he has had to fight congress on every thing that he has tried to do. With them he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Take for example this horrible hurricane. Some have even posted here that he should have sent in the National Guard even though it is well known that it is the Governor’s responsibility to call them in. She did not do it even at the urging of the President and a Senator before the levees even broke. Yet, all you see on the news is criticism for Bush for not calling in the troops sooner. If he had, he would have faced charges of overstepping his bounds as he was with the case of Terri Schiavo where he also tried to help save a life.

I believe that his agenda is clear by how he so often says “staying the course”. What do you see as his hidden agenda? And if it is so well hidden, how do you see it?

God Bless and keep you,

Ann

He is a Skull and Bonesman.

I don’t support secret societies.

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about Bush. I suppose I generally feel good about him as president. He’s not my hero, but I don’t think he is evil either. People who hate him like to blame him for everything wrong under the sun. I’ve heard that the hurricane is his fault because of global warming, everything thats happening in NO is his fault. His fault the dam broke, his fault that people weren’t evacuated, his fault that the national guard wasn’t there right away. Even the fact that there are poor americans is his fault.

It’s ridiculous. No one person on the earth has that much control over the world.

He has a weird way of holding his mouth. It looks at first as if he is smirking, which is very off-putting. I’ve seen him speak enough now to know that he isn’t smirking, it’s just the way he says things, but until you realise that it is very hard to take a lot of his statements seriously when he seems to be smirking at things.

Mike
We’ve noticed that, too. We call it the perma-smirk. Sort of the yin to Clinton’s lip-biting yang (or is it the other way around?) I’m sure we all do something like that, except maybe Dick Clark and Pat Sajak. You could take those two anywhere.

My impression of Mr. Bush: he’s been getting unreasonable support for his actions in Iraq, and he’s going to take unreasonable flak for Katrina in general and New Orleans in particular. Go figure, but that’s the way I see it going.

Do I think he cares? Yes. Do I think his good will is tainted with other interests? Yes. Sorry, but I don’t think he became President out of the largess of his heart, out of pure willingness to serve the American people. With the exception of Gerald Ford, I’m not sure that any President in my lifetime has. There aren’t many pure ones that want that job, let’s face it, and of those there aren’t many who can successfully run the gauntlet of powerful competing agendas required to get it. As Lincoln described Washington, DC, “This town has more pigs that teats.”

Remember the ways the devil tempted our Lord? “You could rule all this”… that was one of them. The chance to wield such enormous power, to command from such a position of respect and status, that has a terrible pull, even for those who want to do good.

I think that what is most telling is that every President who ever met with our late Holy Father John Paul II had both a hand on his shoulder and some finger wagging to endure. Mr. Bush, like all the rest, has room for improvement.

I just saw on tv a reporter that investigated the delays of shipments of food and water to the people at the superdome and convention center. He found out that FEMA had worked with the Red Cross and had truckloads of water and food to go into the city, but they did not have jurisdiction to go in without permission from the Louisiana State Dept of Homeland Security. They blocked access, as well as the National Guard because they did not want the food and water to become a magnet to other people and draw more people to the superdome and convention center. The federal government has no jurisdiction to go in without a request from the state where the emergency is. That request was not made for days.

As for global warming causing the hurricane, I have heard reports that it had nothing to do with it. Also I have heard that the levee was only improved to withstand a category three hurricane because of lobbying from environmental groups that did not want a levee at all, they wanted to improve the coastline naturally.

I think that a real investigation needs to be done so that we all know the facts, not guesses made by politicians with an agenda.

As far as I know, only one man had the kind of power as so many seem to say that Geroge Bush has, and he died over 2000 years ago.

God’s love and blessings,

Ann

Hmm you’re the first “States rights” activist I’ve met whose gone to such an extreme as thinking that State officials can order the national armed forces to kill people.

“Persecution” and “Spiritual war” on a “devout Christian”??? I think you need to sit down and take a deep breath before you dare to accuse others of being careless with the facts.

Bush strafes New Orleans
the President of the United had flown his plane down to 1700 feet to get a better look at the flood damage! And there was a photo of our Commander-in-Chief taken looking out the window. He looked very serious and concerned.
That was yesterday.** Today he played golf. No kidding.**
