Opinion Poll About President Bush

Maybe you’d be interested in a foreigner’s opinion. I cautiously welcomed him at first, at least he was better than that glib lying hypocrite Clinton, and I thought he might do something about abortion, though I was worried about his tax and welfare policies.

Then came 11/9/01, the chance to make or break him as a leader, and he blew it, big time. There was a totally unprecedented international surge of sympathy for the US, but instead of capitalizing on this to work together with other nations, Bush decided it was time to show the whole world, friends and enemies alike, who was boss, issuing ultimatums and orders, throwing his weight around willy nilly, trashing the UN and all international agreements, and most unforgivably embarking on the Iraq war in the teeth of opposition from allies, and letting Al-Quaida off the hook, and making the terrorist situation worse by his incompetent and vainglorious blunderbussing. I’ll be glad when he goes and the next president can only be an improvement.

Well, Petergee, I don’t know what country you’re from but Bush did have support from a lot of other foreign countries. And he took his time about going to war with Iraq, exhausting every other possibility first. France and Germany (and Canada) showed their true colors. I doubt I will visit Canada again for a very long time. I forgot what showed up about Germany but France was eventually caught in a scandal involving money with Iraq. Conflict of interest.

I’m very proud of President Bush. I am sorry that he can’t be elected again but if that was true then we might have been stuck with Clinton for another term.

I have a great deal of respect for George W. Bush, which is a lot more than I can say for the sleazy and disgusting Bill Clinton (and his shrewish wife Hilary, combined).

trashing the UN .
Sorry, but the UN needs trashing. I don’t have much respect for it left at all. It is now a pawn for the pro-death movement as far as I am concerned.

In my opinion he’s an excellent puppet for the republican party!!!
Just because he “claims” to be christian doesn’t make it so, but it sure did get him elected again!!

I do respect the President and have seen no evidence to make me believe that he does not care about the American people. I have, however, seen evidence that he does care. Keep in mind, you can not please all of the people, all of the time. Considering that he was only in office a few months and faced a tragedy like no other President has faced that he has done quite well at his job.

Whether you agree with him or not, respect for his office and as a human being is owed to him. That is something that I do not see in the world anymore. What ever happened to patriotism?

God’s blessings to you and yours,
Ann
Do you watch the news???

I guess that it is all in your perspective. I did not see President Bush as trying to show the world who was boss, as you say, but showing the terrorists that we would not cowtow to what they wanted as the UN wanted us to do. How many more years were we to let Saddam Hussein thumb his nose at us and violate every agreement he ever made?

As for letting Al-Quaida off the hook, how do you figure that? Our troops are still in Afganistan fighting them as well as their contingent in Iraq.

As for the opposition of allies, the colatition originally consisted of 60 countries. Just because Germany and France were not among them, does not make them allies at all. Our allies should not make money off of people starving while Saddam built more palaces.

Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. The next President could be a whole lot worse by not caring to defend our country from terrorists who for centuries have threatened the world.

God’s blessings,
Ann

And I don’t like the trend in the U.S. away from civility and respect for our elected and appointed office holders. We don’t have to agree with them–indeed said:
Okay, everybody who says we do not show proper respect for President Bush, raise your hands if you showed that same respect towards President Clinton that you show President Bush. I don’t see any hands raised.

The polarization of this country is absolutely ugly. I voted for Bush in '00 but not in '04. I am part of the radical middle in our country, also known as road kill. Although President Bush will appoint pro-life judges and has done a moderately good job of standing up to the left on certain homosexual rights issues. His decision making has been poor in most other areas. For example, I’ll list some of his not so good accomplishments.
  1. The Iraq war. A country that did not attack us and posed very little danger for our country now has us as an occupying force, 1800 soldiers dead and 300 Billion in Treasury spent.
  2. Continued trade policies that have build up other countries infastructure and wealth (COMMUNIST CHINA) while destroying ours. Not to mention the impact China has on the demand side of the cost per barrel of oil.
  3. Undercutting our middle class with tax cuts designed primarily for the extreme upper class while similtanouesly putting local cities and states in budget crisis with much reduced funds to operate them safely. (Dikes protecting New Orleans)
  4. An inability to somewhat limit the costs associated to a barrel of oil through political pressure on oil producing countries. Yes, as leader of the free world, he can operate from his bully pulpit if he choses to. But evidently he doesn’t.
  5. The President has single handedly unified the entire world against us as a nation. Read world opinion about our country and their lack of sympathy at this extreme time of despair.(Hurricane Katrina) All the goodwill associated with 9/11 is gone and we are almost totally isolated.
Ultimately, President Bush has done something I didn’t think was possible. He has so motivated the country that Democrats are once again a party of effective dissent. Not bad considering the Dems are so disfunctional they have a difficult time getting up each day just matching their socks and tying their shoes… And maybe, and I struggle with this with such ugly thoughts, helped elect Hillary R. Clinton. YIKES!

SusanL:
Not a true conservative in the historical political sense.
Preventive War Doctrine in general, Iraq in specific.
Increases in social spending and other areas at a greater pace than even the Clinton administration.
The Medicare Prescription Drug Act (a move toward greater socialism as opposed to conservative political principles)
The No Child Left Behind Act (the largest federal power grab in education in the history of this country)
While I am very anti-tax, I find the tax cuts irresponsible while increasing spending
Maybe more later

Actually, I will raise my hand as far as showing respect for Clinton. He was our President. Why fight him when he has been elected and he is our President. Do the best with what you have since there is no other choice. The continuous partisanship and ugly rhetoric gets us no where.

As for the rest of the world hating us…look at the world before President Bush. No one liked us. The French have always called us ugly Americans and would not even allow us to fly over French airspace when fighting Hitler. They claim to be “allies” only when it suits their pocketbook. I lived in Spain for 3 years when my husband was in the military. The gates to the base were picketed at least once a year telling us to get out of their country. When has any of these other countries ever done anything to help us in natural disasters, yet we are always the first to offer help when they are in trouble. As for the oil…Opec has so much power, I do not know what anyone could do to alleviate that. We need to find other means of energy so that we are not so reliant on them. Building more refineries would alleviate alot also, however, that has not been allowed for environmental reasons and has nothing to do with Opec. As for the Iraq war, in my view it is a war against terrorism and Saddam Hussein harbored terrorists. Come on…he paid large sums of money to the families of suicide terrorists as a reward for their “sacrifice”. No. President Bush has not been perfect, but then there has only been one perfect man that has walked this earth.

God’s Blessings,
Ann

It does make me sad how everyone was so sympathetic to us and now they all hate us. That’s the thing I dislike most about Bush. Maybe its not his fault idont know…but he comes across as arrogant and I dont like im representing us whether the war was right or not

Please, the french dislike so many people. President Chirac said that the only thing Britain has given to European agriculture was the mad cow. 😃

The only thing that concerns me about Bush, is that he does not appear at face value to be a very intelligent man. This may be completely wrong, it’s just what I have concluded after having seen him on TV, and having heard of his antics.
