Unfortunately the 2nd amendment doesn’t mention “deer hunting”.
It mentions the specific purpose of ‘militia’. We have Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Army reserves, National Guard, multiple law enforcement agencies, possibly the largest nuclear stockpile in the world, not to mention conventional weapons of deadly accuracy, etc. etc. I think we might want to focus on the right to own ‘hunting’ weapons. 😃

I think trying it out to save the lives of children would be worth the gamble. The point is you have a much better chance at subduing the assailant in this scenario than you do when he’s packing an assault rifle with a thirty round clip, which is no chance at all!

And you act like he’s going to be some level headed professional killer to see that in the midst of reloading he’s being rushed by several people, drop the shotgun, pull handguns and shoot them all in a matter of two or three seconds! Again, please, these shooters aren’t James Bond, they’re deranged kids with no professional military experience in almost every shooting like this.
Yet this one deranged kid was capable of planning and killing 28 people. If you think you can run faster than a bullet…be my guest. But, rushing a shooter and getting yourself killed leaves those kids you claim to be trying to protect completely defenseless and on their own.

And what type of weapons did they use? We’re they semi-automatics? How large a clip? Again, this is a case for smarter legislation, not none at all. What you’re saying is akin to the obese person making a terrible, half-hearted and uneducated effort at diet and exercise to lose weight and then when seeing no change saying “exercise and diet don’t work”.
What was used a 12-gauge Savage-Springfield 67H pump-action shotgun also Hi-point 995Carbine 9mm carbine with 10-round magazines none of these weapons were on the ban list. 10-round magazines were never on the ban list.

Other weapons a Stevens 311D double-barreled sawed off shotgun, TEC-9 handgun that one of the shooters used had large magazines that was on the ban list—the law really worked didn’t it? 🤷

But none of them are militia. 😃 Plus SCOTUS has already confirmed numerous times that people have the right to own weapons for self defense against the government. I’m sure if our government ever invades we’ll be very grateful to the gun owners who draw their fire away from us.

Ok, you’re not reading the post obviously. It’s not “outrunning a bullet” it’s covering a short distance when someone has to reload, which happens much more often with a firearm that is not semi-automatic and packing a clip with 30 rounds of ammo, but whatever:rolleyes:

Militia, military…any citizen, meeting requirements, can join our modern day militia.

While we have rights, we also have responsibilities. I propose controls, not bans.

SCOTUS is a part of the government. Also, it seems paranoid to think our government would ‘invade’ us, in my opinion.😃

Indeed, and a delusional fantasy of the first order to even entertain the notion that if the federal government suddenly employed its full military might to kill us all that undisciplined, unorganized gun enthusiasts with their private stockpiles could do anything to in any way prevent it! 😃

Actually, according to SCOTUS, every abled bodied male is already a member of the milita.

You don’t have to ‘join’, you already ARE milita.

Agreed. You are not given an option to “not join”.

10 USC § 311 - Militia: composition and classes

(a)The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

(b)The classes of the militia are—
(1)the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and

(2)the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

Actually I’m in the militia. According to my state’s laws every able bodied men over 17 is in the militia. Obviously I need a weapon suitable for a militia. The Swiss have similar conditions and laws.
No, the Swiss have mandatory conscription - with state issued guns and ammunition. Every adult is required to attend military training and regular on-duty periods. Their militia is much more like our reservist program.

I doubt your state calls up it’s militia for regular training and drills. And I doubt every able-body man over 17 is curently requierd to register with the militia or required to own a gun.

What are you posting about?

The federal government established the militia and maintains that law to this day. How do you think the selective service registration is legal and how the draft works?

As an observation, three adults can run 10 feet or so in a matter of a couple of seconds, and yes, that’s a good deal faster than a deranged, non-professional kid could possibly reload a shotgun, and much much faster than he could hope to shoot all three of them.
Seconds?

Do you know it only takes a fraction of a second to work the slide on a shotgun?

Your posts are funny.

Wasn’t that the point of the Gun Free School Zone act? Leave the children defenseless and on their own with possibly an unarmed teacher? It certainly hasn’t stopped any school shooters and in fact seems to have encouraged them.

Every deer rifle I have ever seen is semi-automatic. Virtually every pistol nowadays is semi-automatic. One can replace a 5 or 10 round clip in a couple of seconds.

Um, you must not have read what the other poster said about our government “invading us”, you know, the impending bloody tyranny that Obama and our communist would-be oppressors are about to embark upon:rolleyes:

Just so you know most guns carry more than one bullet or shell. Pump shotguns are easy to reload with one in the chamber. Many rifles can also be reloaded with one in the chamber. So unless you have your bullet proof vest (illegal in some states) or can readily identify the weapon (doubtful with you use of the work “clip”), you may want to dial back your assumed abilities to run faster than the speed of sound.

Prodigal Son1 made no such post.

It takes more than that to insert rounds into it though, especially for an untrained crazy kid…you know, about the same time it takes for an able person to run 10 feet or so.
