Armstrong confessed to doping during an interview with Oprah Winfrey taped Monday, just a couple of hours after a wrenching apology to staff at the Livestrong charity he founded and has now been forced to surrender.
The day ended with 2 1/2 hours of questions from Winfrey at a downtown Austin hotel, where she said the world’s most famous cyclist was ‘‘forthcoming’’ as she asked him in detail about doping allegations that followed him throughout his seven Tour de France victories.
Speaking on ‘‘CBS This Morning,’’ Winfrey said Tuesday she had not planned to address Armstrong’s confession before the interview aired on her OWN network but, ‘‘by the time I left Austin and landed in Chicago, you all had already confirmed it.’’
‘‘So I’m sitting here now because it’s already been confirmed,’’ she added.

I’m disgusted. I used to admire this guy. Now it comes out that he’s a disgusting cheater? Just goes to show how stupid I am.

Never hold up an athlete as a hero. None of them are. The real heroes are our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Athletes aren’t worthy of being in the same room as them.

this as much as surprise as jody foster coming out as a lesbian:shrug:

Exactly, it’s disgusting, many people long suspected this.

That tour of sometimes riding over a hundred miles a day and doing it on consecutive days, into the mountains, etc. too, is just too much of an endurance event, even if “young guys” do it, it invites cheating.

Also, I heard recently a young Ultra Marathon runner (races more than 27 miles and sometimes up to over a hundred) died nearing the finish line. These events are too difficult. We need to stay in shape but not so macho as to push the limits.

We all question how much doping goes on in the NFL, I am sure some does and decades from now, some of the heroes may be suing the league for injuries they receive nowadays.

The thing is people say with the thin air, etc. that one just can’t climb those mountain passes in these races like some do unless they have blood doping or EPO.

There may be a few athletes that are heroes but not enough to make a case of, I guess Roger Staubach was a good guy, devout Catholic, went to the Navy Academy. There are a few. Ali in some ways might be a good guy but he may be paying for his years of boxing, I really don’t know. He has Parkinson’s right? I may be wrong to blame the sport. Jesse Owens was a hero, Tim Tebow does good in my book despite the adversity he goes through. More due to his being a Christian than being on a winning team!

I’m not surprised. Hollywood is anything goes nowadays.

I’m sick of this Godless society we live in. I hate it.
I don’t know if it is so, I heard some speculation, maybe it was on the Michael Medved show that because Hollywood had the red scare and blacklisted actors way back when and that it might have been an overreaction, the pendulum has swung in the other direction.

That said, I was watching some cute situation comedy on the networks the other night, it really wasn’t too bad.

But politically overall, I certainly give Hollywood a thumbs down.

And the violence and all that as well.

I think a lot of the others are “dopers” too… He’s still the best cyclist among all the other dopers or non. 🤷

A cheat is a cheat, even if everyone else is cheating. All that proves is there are no good men left in the world of professional cycling.

Disgusting. Makes me want to vomit.

Not if he had an “elite” doping program which appears to be the case.

But I agree and most who look at the sport agree most of the Cyclists are dopers.

Though I think there is a good chance the 2 most recent winners are clean, Wiggins of UK and Evans of Australia.

Still, one can be skeptical of them all.

I know I am.

I don’t think I’ll ever trust one again.

I have a skepticism, but I know about the sport some and didn’t want to cast dispersions, but let’s say some countries, including the USA with Armstrong, Tyler Hamilton and Floyd Landis are suspicious.

Back to another point, when they busted Armstrong back last October, they said his doping program as I said earlier was a bit elite, state of the art, not that just out of all the dopers he came out on top.

But even with this said, it’s good if someone is caught but by the USADA (US Anti-Doping Agency) organization, which is autonomous and NOT the Federal Government which many might think, I use too, they are a branch of the WADA, World Anti-Doping Agency which seems to be an offshoot of the IOC, International Olympic Committee.

But Armstrong was not innocent until proven guilty, that is not how USADA and WADA operate, they took the info on him and busted him so in this I have mixed feelings, he did not get American styled justice though in the end, it may have been justice as well.

They really should have considered a truth and reconciliation conference on performance drugs in cycling. It’s absolutely epidemic at this point. Than again, it’s pretty much rampant in every sport down to competitive bowling.

I don’t really watch hockey but I understand that cheating with chemicals or other means isn’t really a problem. Maybe sports need to look at what they are doing there.

Most sports have gotten out of control these days. There is no sense of just going out to have a bit of fun and play a game - even for children. Everything is so cut-throat and it seems that almost everyone has this idea that they (or their child) is going to become a professional.

Even for those who are in another profession, there are crazy “weekend warrior” type events and training. The idea of sport as recreation and a way to be healthy - as opposed to crammed full of protein powders, steriods, and worse - is long gone.

And we can, now that the NHL is finally playing again!!! 😃
Go Pens!!!

Sorry. 😊 I missed my hockey…

I can imagine. It’s Sabre’s country around here. I’ve been making an effort to get into it but it hasn’t stuck yet.

Being a hockey fan; do you have any thoughts as to why steroids isn’t a problem in the sport when other sports are plagued with it?

It very disappointing how long they took to get the season going, I looked at last year and for example, one team began playing October 6, so we are missing over 3 months of this season, 48 game season, still won’t start until January 19th officially is what I think I heard.

And it will be difficult to get back into being interested in it.

Bowling? What are they doing in competitive bowling?

Armstrong should have admitted that he had done something years ago. He’s human, he did something wrong…just admit it. I know people who race and looked up to him for inspiration in their cycling.
