How could this happen? Perhaps the local Bishops don’t know or don’t care, so the Pope cannot know? Pray for Holy Mother Church!

"Orange County priest who gave to Obama campaign elevated to rank of monsignor

An Orange County priest who donated to the Obama for President campaign and listed his job as “Roman Catholic priest” and his employer as “Roman Catholic Bishop of Orange” on federal campaign disclosure forms has been elevated to the honorary rank of monsignor.

Fr. Arthur Holquin, pastor of Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, gave $250 to the Obama campaign on July 7, 2008, according to Federal Election Commission records. Fr. Holquin has been pastor of the San Juan Capistrano Mission for six years and, in May, will celebrate his 35th anniversary as a priest." …

Why does the Church keep instructing us that abortion is morally wrong when its clergy continues to do questionable actions like this?

It’s starting to get on my nerves.

To think the Patroness of the Unborn is featured prominently in the Mission’s retablo.

I know Fr. Holquin personally, he baptized me gave me my first confession my first holy communion and confirmed me as well. He is a good man and a good priest. It is a deep shame that he has let his alliances lie outside of his Holy Church. We stand for something far greater, far nobler than this. Our leaders, our men who stand in persona Christi NEED to stand up for our shared truths in all that they do. Being a priest consists of much more than saying mass and hearing confessions, this tells us that and more. Our church needs orthodox priests who practice what they preach. I will however say this: He is a very good man whom I still respect, pray for our shepherds!

What happens when the Church Itself gives scandal?I know his Bishop is not the Church but YOU know what I mean.

As an in-the-trenches Catholic I am OUTRAGED at some of these Bishops and Cardinals who seem to promote and espouse everything but orthodox Catholicism.Didn’t our Lady of Fatima warn us about this.Is this evidence of the smoke of Satan that has entered our Church according to Pope Paul VI?

Well, he IS from Orange County! OC, where it is okay to support a pro-abortion candidate, but not okay to kneel for Holy Communion.

It is well known that Obama’s parish congratulated him on his election. They threw a party, in fact.

Obama agrees with killing premature babies if there mother wanted to abort them, right? And the bishop of this diocese rewarded a priest who supported Obama’s campaign financially?

Does this mean that they want us to start killing babies? Is this the new virtue in Orange county? Unfortunately I couldn’t find the bishop’s phone number online to ask him.

That Catholic lay people would become apoplectic over this news item is just one more reason I will never, ever be Catholic or try to be Catholic, ever again. 😦

I will pray for the “Holy Mother Church”, but not for the reasons you would expect.

That you can’t fathom why Catholic laypeople would become upset by this news item is one more reason why you are not Catholic.

Trust me, I can “fathom” Catholic laypeople. It isn’t hard to plumb the depths of the shoal, you know. 😃

I guess it doesn’t bother you that all these babies are being murdered? 😦 How can it not make someone all upset? 😦

Prayer for Lapsed Catholics

O Almighty Father, who desirest not the death of the sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, pour out upon us thy mercy and hear the prayers of thy servants. Soften the hearts of thy children who have strayed from the true paths, which thou didst establish for their salvation. They are now forgetful of their duties as Catholics, and pursue only the transitory pleasures of the world. Grant that they may speedily return to the practice of every Christian virtue, so that their lives may shine with the integrity of faith, the fervour of piety and the ardour of charity. Restore all of them to thy sacraments and to the life of thy grace, through the merits of the Most Precious Blood of thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Could this story be compared with Cardinal Law of Boston being sent to the Vatican?

This is a very uncharitable post.
Only for those Catholic laity who managed to understand it.😉

Don’t speak to me about charity. I had enough “charity” from the parish I belonged to–enough to last me a long, long time.

Because, though I believe in the sanctity of life, I also have an understanding of the many issues which lead to abortion and euthanasia.

Until you have walked in the shoes of a mother who has just been delivered a poor prenatal (read: fatal) diagnosis for your unborn child, or stood at the deathbed of a suffering, terminally ill child, you can kindly write yourself a missive about your high and mighty principles and then shove it where the sunshine can’t reach it. 👍

Alright, so if you can’t stand Catholics, then why are you posting here? Something tells me that there’s something inside of you that wants to return back to the Church. 😃

I’m just trying to understand where you’re coming from… my post might have come across as sarcastic or something else that I didn’t intend.

I’m guessing that to you, the idea that babies are being aborted isnt as upsetting as, say, if you saw someone being murdered on the street in front of your house. Or maybe it is as upsettting, but there’s something even more upsetting about the situation you described with having a young child die? I’m just trying to understand and explain.

I’ve walked in those shoes.

I won’t discuss the particulars of that situation any further.

I will just say, I find the righteous indignation on the part of “Good” Catholics who believe the situation to be black and white, etc… who have NEVER been faced with the such a dire choice or grim news for THEIR child…well, I find it repulsive.

In time, perhaps God will heal my soul enough that I won’t outwardly HATE Catholics to the extent I currently do, but I can promise I will never BE a Catholic.

I “fathom” this issue on a very personal and deeply painful level. Sure, you can intellectualize the horror of a dead baby, but have you ever held your own?

I pray it never happens to you, but until you’ve walked in those shoes, don’t speak to me about “understanding” the issue at hand.

I have, thank you. My child died in my arms, but only because I made the only decent choice a parent could make and NOT ABORT her despite what the doctors told me. I’m still 100% pro life no matter the situation. black and white. so are we even? Or do you have another challenge to make you seem “above” Church doctrine/laity?

Take your issues to another thread about healing instead of derailing this one. Your issues with the church have nothing to do with this bishop and you’re only baiting people. And, yes, I think that deep down, you do want to be here and receive kindness and charity from Catholics. And you will. But not when you derail a thread and make yourself “above” the moral law because of what life experiences you’ve gone through. Believe me honey, we’ve all had hard lives and Christ suffered much more than all of us and I KNOW he’d be black and white on abortion. PM me if you need to talk about your grief, but this isn’t the thread to do it in.
