Defund the police, but call 911 if people are celebrating Thanksgiving.

In the land of Peace, Order and Good government, Québec version, it’s a $1000 fine for breaking the covid rules. Plus $546 in court costs. There are instances of the cops ticketing homeless people for breaking covid rules. A whopping $1546 fine to people who live on nickels and dimes. Duh. And…
It’s amazing how many people are chomping at the bit to snitch on their neighbors.
Yup. Fortunately I live in the sticks in a maple forest, well set back from the (dirt) road. My only neighbour seems to have a lot of coming-and-going at his place, so he seems not too keen on snitching on the comings and goings at my place. Not that it matters… my son is the only person who visits, and since I’m living alone for 3 months, I’m allowed one visitor; he’s been here exactly three times in as many months. But in the city indeed a lot of snitching going on; some of the snitching has been against legit comings and goings (e.g. plumber, repairman, etc). That said:
So lets talk science.

If I do not have COVID, and I invite family members to Thanksgiving who do not have COVID, explain the science of how that is a risk to spread COVID.
How can you guarantee your visitors don’t have covid without a recent covid test and self-isolation since the test? Young people especially can be asymptomatic.

I’m 62 and diabetic. I prefer not to get covid and winding up in the ICU or worse. On top of that, if while cycling, I wipe out and end up in the ER in need of a bed in the ICU, I prefer (assuming I’m still conscious) not finding out the ICU beds are all taken by covid patients.

Our own Thanksgiving was back in October. The second wave really took off then.

Be careful folks…

Well, this gal is also a nurse, I’ve taken care of Covid19 patients, and I’ve seen the mental health decline in too many people from this prolonged quarantine of elders who want nothing more than to hug their loved ones again and see their faces and hear their voices.

So my opinion is…let adults make their own decisions.

That’s the first time I’ve heard skipping a large family gathering that lasts a few hours described as a prolonged quarantine.

Do you know what a quarantine is?
Do you live in the US?
Did your nation not shut down the schools and non essential businesses?

You seriously don’t lnow about the quarantines 😳

Her preferences aren’t really my concern, just as mine don’t register for anyone else.

So the quarantine in your nation consisted of one day isolation?

You better be a very thankful person for that.

The US has been in some sort of quarantine for eight months, so it would behoove you not to judge those of us who were under real shut downs.

not to judge those of us who were under real shut downs.
. . . .

Again, you want to infer that avoiding a large family gathering at a time when we are facing a shortage of icu staff and beds, go ahead.
I won’t.

When I see photos of refrigerated trailers being stuffed with body bags, I get it. And I’m not going to feel entitled to ignore it.

Anyone that wants to see a lockdown to prevent such as best we can, as some sort of infringement on their rights, I have no control over.

But don’t try to convince me that by doing my part for the common good and my refusal to be part of a problem that can be easily avoided is wrong.

You are talking to someone who is not in denial and who knows better.

Good.

So you do understand that this quarantine was way more serious than missing one family dinner.

But my point is, this prolonged shut down is having other, equally deadly effects, so it’s up to each adult to make choices for themselves.

Someone with a gun? Call a social worker!

Thanksgiving dinner? Call the cops!

Beautiful!
