You seem to be saying that if an English word does not appear verbatim the teaching is invalid. I point out that the word Trinity is not in the English, nor in the Koine Greek. Yet Trinity is certainly taught in The Word of God.

Scripture to ponder: Romans Ch. 5; also 11:5,6; II Timothy 1:9

What percentage of the religious world believed that Jesus was the Christ in A.D. 33? What about today? In the garden of Gethsemane all the disciples forsook Him and fled–the crowd was in a riot frenzy. “Crucify him, Crucify him” they ranted before Pilate. On the same occasion, Peter cursed any connection, denying Jesus three times. Where were the others? At the crucifixion there were a few women and John. Many of the others were probably hiding for their lives.

What is the point? Usually high percentages of any population are wrong about what ever the issue–including pure religion undefiled. This is painfully true where state religions are in control. Shariah Law is controlling a large part of the Moslem world. They are trying to take over–again.

The majority of the religious population of this planet are not Christian. Allah seems to be making inroads of late, even proselyting many Christians, so-called. Allah is not Jehovah.
Just because a small group believe in Grace alone through Faith alone does not make the teaching untrue. Ephesians 2:8-10.

James Least
You are wrong. The World Population when considered Roman Catholic, Orhtodox and Muslim include 1/2 the population of the World. I would agree that Protestants do not fare well.

Ephesus and other first Century Churches are gone. Augustine of Hippo and his Church was taken over by Heretics and the Church survived as promised. So what is your concern?

**James,
Actually, I said we have to consider the New Testament as a whole— all of Scripture: **
. . . .My point is that we must consider the New Testament as a whole–actually the whole Bible. Salvation is more than what a few lines of Scripture reveal.
**The phrase faith alone does appear verbatim in James Chapter 2, which clearly states we are not saved by faith alone, and faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
**
James 2: 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. Please read the entire Chapter for context.

**I’m glad to see that you are citing passages of Scripture. However, none of the passages you cited say we are saved by faith alone through grace alone.

As I said before, I don’t believe in a “works” salvation. Christ accomplished our salvation on the cross. So, yes we have been justified by faith----but that is not all Holy Scripture says about salvation.

Being a doer of the word and perseverance are also factors in our salvation. **

James 1: 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

When Jesus sent out the Apostles, he warned them of the persecution they would face and said the one who endures to the end with be saved. Again, we find "perseverance."

Matthew 10:
22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Baptism, the circumcision made without hands–which brings us into Covenant with God-- also plays a role in our salvation. Through Baptism, our sins are forgiven. We are buried with Christ in baptism, in which we are also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Acts 2:
38 And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 2: 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

The Lord’s Supper also plays a role in salvation and is connected with having life in us and being raised to eternal life.

John 6: 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

**James, I urge you to read all of these passages in context. A thorough reading of the New Testament–beginning to end–will help put things into context.

So, from these passages, we find faith, being doers of the word, perseverance, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper are all connected to salvation. Again, I will stress that it is through Christ that we are saved–it is through His ultimate Sacrifice that we are saved. So, I am not advocating a “works salvation.”**

Anna

Part 2 of 2 to James Least

**Now we come to what I call the “scary” Scriptures—they truly bring me to that sense of working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Philippians 2:11-13).
**
2 Peter 2: 19. . .For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 20For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.

Hebrews 6: 4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

Hebrews 10: 26For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

1 Corinthians 6: 9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Galations 5: 19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matthew 7: 1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Matthew 7: 21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

**1 John 5: **16If anyone sees his brother committig a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.

Revelaton 3: 5 The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. 6

**As you can see, faith alone through grace alone can be a spiritually dangerous stance. God does not take away our free will. We can’t just say I have faith in Christ; I am saved by His grace; and I don’t need to do anything else or worry about anything else.

We still have the potential to again become entangled in the defilements of the world; fall away; sin deliberately even after receiving the knowledge of truth. We can still commit sins that lead to death, and even have our name blotted out of the Book of Life.

James, I encourage you to read all of these passages in context. Then, please explain how you can maintain that we are save by faith alone through grace alone, with so much Biblical evidence that there is more to salvation than that first step of faith in Christ and repentance.**

Peace,
Anna

The trinity was taught, confirmed by the Catholic Church so that all Christians that sprang from the Catholic Church believe and accept the Trinity. Follow the teaching from the time it was proclaimed. There were many heretics along the way. Protestants accepted the teaching of the trinity with exception of 7day Adventists, Oneness Pentacostal, Jehovah witness and Mormons that sprang from Protestant thought.

You are a fallible man using what you believe to be the infallible inerrant word of God. Whatever you propose to anyone is nothing but a fallible teaching. This is why you get those that spring from Protestant thought teaching just as fallibly as you do. You cannot ever convince anyone that your teaching is infallible. You cannot even convince yourself for when you do you become the exception to Protestant thought and have become a Church unto yourself.

You are fallible. Your teachings are fallible. Why am I or anyone inclined to listen or believe you. You have no infallible authority other than The Bible and other fallible men. The Catholic Church we believe to have decided the Trinity with the Bible and the Traditions via the magesterium.

I am grateful that you are triniterian and have accepted Catholic teaching as all Protestant thought that coincides with Catholic teaching sprang from disordered Catholic priests and a Catholic lawyer.

Bless you, continue to pray and continue to follow those truths revealed by the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. If you have been baptized then you too can be called Christian.👍

True, but even using Scripture as your only source, “faith alone through grace alone” (claimed by James Least-a Sola Scriptura proponent) can not be proven. Of course, Sola Scriptura cannot be proven by Scripture either.

Per Wikipedia: Major religious groups worldwide-Wiki

Christian(an interesting label-- which includes: Orthodox, RC, Protestant, Mormon, JW and probably some more–not sure if JW’s consider themselves Christian.

Christian worldwide: 2.20 billion

Islam worldwide: 1.65 billion

No Religion stated 1.10 billion

Do the math: 2.75 billion are not Christian; this does not consider the 2.05 billion which would fall under the category of Eastern Religion. This number is derived from the population of the globe which is approaching: 7.0 billion. Adding Islam, No religion, and Eastern: 4.80 billion are not Christian. More math: 4.8/7.0=.685=69% kind of are not Christian. Using a survey error of plus or minus 10%, one still has difficulty stretching the Christian population to a 51% majority.

What does all of this statistical goobdygook mean? Jesus was right: “The world hates me they will hate you,” talking to his followers. Which brings up another point: all of the ones called Christian are not following the teachings of Jesus the Christ. Another skew in the results: the numbers reflect many who were baptized and added to the number many years ago. Some of them are dead, and cannot be counted with the current followers; many of whom are nominal, that is in name only. They are on the roles basically for baptisms, weddings and funerals with an occasional Easter and Christmas–pretty religious-- according to some definitions. Strange if one defines a Christian as a follower.

“Let God be found true and every man lying”

Where will we be in 100 years?

Went to Adherents.com. Section titled: Major Religions of the World Ranked by Number of Adherents. There is a nice pie-chart which shows Christianity 33%. That leaves 67% not Christian. The individual stats are the same as Wiki.
Reality check stat: 2 out of 3 of those claiming to be religious or not are not Christian.

Of course faith without works is dead. So is works without faith. This means that one has a false salvation if one does not have good works. Good works verify that one is saved. It does not mean one is saved by one’s works. This goes back to Ephesians 2:8-10. Verse 10: " For we are His workmanship, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS, unto good works which God has before ordained that we should walk in them."

God does the saving. God does the working. God does the keeping. All the glory goes to God. We have nothing about which to boast. God provides everything including the faith to believe The Gospel. Eph. 2:8.

Look further to see that as I said 1/2 the world is Catholic/Orthodox and Muslim. The other 1/2 is not. The percentage of those calling themselves christian is less than the world population that are Catholic/Orthodox as I said.

33 % Christian Muslim 2.1 billion 21 % is ½ the world population

The Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox make up 1.325 billion of the Christian community. Combine that with Coptic Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox and you get 1.385 billion Christians.

2.1 billion minus the 1.325 billion = 0.775 billion and see how they are dispersed.

Anglican 77,000,000 and the Assembly of God 50,000,000 are the next recognizable “Christian” communities.

7th Day Adventists, Jehovah Witness, Southern Baptist and LDS are about the same in number in the world.

There are already Baptist churches without Baptist in their names. Many Baptists consider themselves to be the only Christians, or at least other churches that beleive in “getting saved”. Here in the southwest there are many “Cowboy” churches without Baptist in the name but teaching strictly Baptist theology. They call themselves “non-denominational”. I have considered ringing up one of the “non denominational” Baptist churches and asking them to baptise my 3 month old grandaughter. The answer would show just how non denominational they really are.

And of course many Baptists and other Evangelicals do not consider Catholics to be Christian at all.

James Least,

Did you actually read post 107 and 108? I really can’t tell by your answer.

Peace,
Anna

Hi. I have a friend (the best friend of my fiancé) who is a Southern Baptist, and he said that the Baptist Church has been around since the beginning of the Catholic Church, basically parallels the Catholic Church, and were persecuted by the Romans. He says they were originally called “anabaptists.” I’ve done research, because although I originally did not believe him, I thought I’d assume he might know what he was talking about. All I’ve found is that the Southern Baptist Convention was founded in 1845, and that the Baptist churches in general started in around 1609. The Anabaptists, who are unrelated, also weren’t around until the 1500s, not 2000 years ago.

I’m not so much looking for support of this answer as much as I’m looking for anyone else who has heard this, or believes it, or knows where it comes from. It seems to me like someone wanted their Church to sound more like the one true Church and is passing this information on to Baptists.

Thanks in advance for your (name removed by moderator)ut!
Kslat, Your friend is confused. This confusion began with the Protestant reformation.
