Liberalism is a sin.

One is not a liberal or a conservative. They are either faithful or unfaithful. Period.

Trick question.
I checked liberal because I trust implicitly only one and that is God. I lay my life down for God, God only.
I was born Catholic and did what I was told to do without question until I was in my thirties. It was then I realized that I had a brain, a mind, and could actually have thoughts of my own in this world. I give my life to God, no one else.
😉 I am unorthodox and liberal in comparison to Father Coughlin. My heros in the Church are Maximilian Kolbe and Bartolomew de las Casas.

I started off as a liberal catholic. licking vatican 2, glad that the literagy is changed and glad that the church no longer believes in hell or the need for confesion. i lick calling protostents my bothers and sisters in Christ, and accepting that all people is saved.

then this sight made me more orthodox, but recentli I have been feeling the tug of liberalism and tolerence pulling tuwerd me. my orthodox friends say the divel is tempting me to sen, but I think that “like the bumperstickers say: Jesus is a liberal and tolerates gays.”

do i need help or am I gettin bac on the right track?

I like Vatican II also but I do not think you like the same Vatican II that I like because I think you are off track about what the council said and didn’t say. The Church still believes in hell, still believes that confession is a sacrament and is necessary and the liturgy was not truly changed - you might try reading the documents of Vatican II. I was surprised at what I had taken for granted and really did not know. I needed some help understanding some of it but the help is available.

I understood that Jesus loves all of us, no matter who or what we are, but that our actions may not be in line with His Teachings or the Teachings of His Church.

I consider myself an obedient daughter of the Holy Mother Church. I may sometimes appear to be politically liberal and sometimes conservative.

Yes Saint Maximilian was known as being very unorthodox…with his acceptance of sodomy, priestesses, contraception, oh, and of course, his love for secular culture and secular education.

If you try to be orthodox dispite (shamefully) little knowledge of the faith, and might be a little off would he still be orthodox?

Tom of Assisi:
Just curious.

How many out there are

orthodox: assent to the Church’s moral and doctrinal teachings, don’t use contraceptives, attend Mass weekly, don’t support women, gay, or married priests, agree with Catholic Answers voter’s guide, pray and go to confession regularly…

liberal: think the Church should have married or women priests, don’t always assent to the moral teachings of Church: maybe birth control/sterilization are really o.k., will vote for candidates that are pro-abortion, pro-euthenasia, pro-stem-cell research, or pro homosexual rights.
thanks
I answered the question before reading the full post. It’s possible to be orthodox and support married priests and homosexual rights. The issue of priests marrying is a disciplinary one, not a doctrinal one, so the Church could technically change Her mind on this. I don’t think She will, nor do I support it, but it doesn’t make one unorthodox. Also, what do you mean by homosexual rights? If you mean basic human rights like protection from violence and freedom of religion, then, yes, I support homosexual rights.

You haven’t the slightest idea of what you’re talking about.

I myself am politically liberal in that I oppose unilateral military action by the United States, I do not believe in isolationism, I oppose the use of the death penalty in all cases, I favor free markets, I believe in labor unions, and I believe that the government has a rightful place in assuring the good of the general public, but it should not erode our Constitutional rights as the Patriot Acts could do…

I am, however, absolutely a Papal loyalist, totally orthodox in my religious beliefs.

So, Mandi love, one can be both Liberal and Catholic.
Wow. You say you’re Catholic, but a politacally liberal?? WHAT?? Just like the liberal Catholic thing, I certainly hope you don’t vote democrat. For most democrats are Pro Death (choice), socialists, and tax/big government hungry. I would like to keep what I earn thank you and support the causes I choose to support. If you want to support social programs, good for you. Move to Canada and be happy. Please don’t let my fallen brothers’ blood be in vain.

It’s amazing to see how confused and blind so many people are! Great thread!! 🙂
