According to Muslim practice, he had to be buried within 24 hours of death, and no country was willing to let us bury him there. Hence the burial at sea.

Hope the fish survive.

I hope this development does not cause an uproar in the Arabic states. While not rejoicing in any man’s death, I hope that the evil he could cause will be avoided by this military action.
I, like you, do not gloat over any man’s death. As to uproar over Arabic states, you know what, I’ve had it with their uproars and protests. Somebody eating a ham sandwich in DesMoines with a Koran in the room causes an uproar in the Arabic states. Let 'em uproar. I’m over their childish balogna.

I totally agree with you, Whitacre_Girl.

I am not in any way shape or form sad the SOB is dead, but I’m not glad and overjoyed, either.

This brings back memories of that day ten years ago----the hatred, the anger, etc. Right now, I don’t fell that, though. I’m glad the SOB will not get to hurt and kill any more people anymore, but at the same time, the War on Terror is not over, and we still have a long way to go.

Ultimately, his fate is now in the hands of God. I have a feeling it will not go down well. But I will still pray for his soul.
The way he died still does not do justice to the thousands of people he killed---------the things that he died deserved something more "hurtful."I would rather be a candlelight vigil for this guy’s victims-----but again, I DO agree this is a happy day in sense for our brave men and women.
May God have mercy on his soul.
My feelings too. My reaction was more of “Whoa!..wow…” I don’t feel like celebrating…I feel kinda…melancholy (not sad)…contemplative over his existence and what he did…and just having this overwhelming urge to pray.

I do too. What a tragic. fallen world we live in.

OTOH, the US is back…🙂

Yeah, I am suspicious. Somebody even it on a UK televison show, about the timing and Obama’s approval ratings, and this was on a liberal talk show.
That is totally ridiculous. It’s way too long until the election.

Right there with you

Ding-dong…
First thing I thought when I heard the announcement. 👍

Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.

I couldn’t say it better myself. No matter what a person did in this life and whether his death is justified or not, it is never acceptable or charitable to celebrate his death. We must all pray for his soul.
We are not necessarily celebrating his death, but rather, we are celebrating that justice has finally been done. The decision was made 10 years ago to hunt down this man and make him pay for his crimes against humanity. It is right and proper for us to rejoice that the mission has been accomplished.

I am certainly not a supporter of President Obama, and I think it’s sad that he was able to see clearly the need to pursue Osama bin Laden, but he doesn’t see the need to preserve the lives of unborn human beings. However, I praise him for his tenacity and his willingness to facilitate and support this superb American military mission to destroy one of the greatest enemies of peace. I also praise him that the mission was kept secret and that no leaks occurred in this era of online revelation of pretty much everything.

If I had been the president in 2001 I would have obliterated bin Laden within a year’s time… I would have given Tony Blair the money and told him to put the British Ghurka’s on it. Clean and sanitary solution. I have been saying that for years. Look at how long it took. How much better would it have been handled my way…?!

My point…

It could have been… and should have been handled more quickly…
Easy to say. Did you know where he was? Do you think the Brits knew where he was? Rash statement.

Christ died even for Osamas sins and doesn’t play favorites but wants everyone to be saved.

If God served justice to every soul would any man escape punishment?

God is greater then any human being and can have Mercy on whomever he chooses.

Lord Jesus have mercy on his soul.

Just be careful today, everyone. Be very, very careful.

Almost ten years ago, I was at work on 9/11.

Whenever we could get away from our work, I and my work associates gathered around the television set and watched in horror.

I don’t remember what I said–it was a pretty tough day, and most Americans like me were scared and angry and full of other emotions. In this frame of mind, I apparently said something that was taken by someone as “racist.”

I was written up by this “someone”, who apparently didn’t have the nerve to say anything directly to my face.

A few days after the attacks, I was called into the office by my supervisor, who was visibly upset over the write-up and in total sympathy with me, but she had to do her duty and inform me that I was now on probation and if another incident occurred, I could be fired from my job.

I was devastated over that write-up. I couldn’t believe that someone would not allow me the right to express my emotions over the terrorist attacks. But the “law” of my company was not on my side in this situation.

I watched my mouth and still watch my mouth at work. I didn’t get fired.

I just want to remind all of you that if you are in a work setting, be careful about what you say and how you say it. This is not a good time in the U.S.A. to be fired. If you are one of the world citizens rejoicing in Osama bin Laden’s death, save your celebration for a location other than the workplace. Think before you talk today.

I have to admit, I myself had a moment of hooray he’s gone. Mostly because my husband is a veteran and I am happy our troops were able to get the job done. I know I am guilty of blaring Toby Keith’s “Courteousy of the Red White and Blue” on my way to work today. I am sad however too that one of God’s children had to die and I do pray for his soul.

Hmmm…why didn’t they capture him and put him on trial? There will probably be a bunch of people hailing him as a martyr now.
I’ve heard two different stories from two different networks this morning.
  1. They dumped his body in the ocean very quickly, because it would have caused danger - people gathering trying to view the body, trying to find a country that would be willing to take it…etc…
or
  1. They gave him a sea burial as per Islamic tradition.
I have no idea which it is but my first thought was 'oh how convenient, no body and right after this Trump situation so if I even so much as bring up the notion wether or not it happened I’m going to look psycho’

An Al-Arabiya correspondent claims that two of Bin Laden’s wives and four of his sons were captured during the raid. Apparently, the key to the whole operation was finding and tracking Bin Laden’s most trusted courier, a process that took years — and involved info given by Guantanamo detainees:
Some time after Sept. 11, detainees held by the U.S. told interrogators about a man believed to work as a courier for bin Laden, senior administration officials said. The man was described by detainees as a protégé of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and “one of the few Al Qaeda couriers trusted by bin laden.”
Initially, intelligence officials only had the man’s nickname, but they discovered his real name four years ago.
Two years ago, intelligence officials began to identify areas of Pakistan where the courier and his brother operated, and the great security precautions the two men took aroused U.S. suspicions.
Last August, intelligence officials tracked the men to their residence in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a relatively wealthy town 35 miles north of Islamabad where many retired military officers live.

Here are the prepared remarks as delivered by the President last night.

He resisted arrest and started shooting at them. If you shoot at a Navy SEAL you end up dead.

WASHINGTON—
A U.S. official says Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea.

After Bin Laden was killed in a raid by U.S. forces in Pakistan, senior administration officials said the body would be handled according to Islamic practice and tradition. That practice calls for the body to be buried within 24 hours, the official said. Finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world’s most wanted terrorist would have been difficult, the official said. So the U.S. decided to bury him at sea.

The official, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters, did not immediately say where that occurred.

I guess we will find out if this in fact happened. If so, that pretty much eliminates a problem of a shrine being built for him.
